So, gimmie all that you know about penta engines (real volvo engines not the chevy 350 crap) Are the blocks the same, can you put a 530/531 head on? I need details, please. Thanks all!

edit: seeing as how there would not be much load on the engine, the turbo may not spool, huh?

A lot of people use the 531 heads off the penta motors. Of course the #4 exhaust (IIRC) port is usually thrashed from water.

Need more load? Use a bigger prop!

the good (penta 151) motors I know come already with the goodies like the 2.5 crank, k-cam, and a 531 head.
I would be hesitant to turbo one out of of boat without a rebuild only because there are been some nasty pics of corroded parts from all the water. Man if I had a boat first thing i'd do is make myself an internal cooling system...
I think it would spool just fine, i mean waterskiing might not be as easy because it would take a bit to get going with a big turbo, but it would be a hilarous thing to hear a turbo spool and to fly buy a boat with a small block in it

yeah this project will be for a guy that i work with. he is planning on getting a penta boat in a few weeks that needs some work and he fears that it wont be fast enough. I suggested putting a turbo on. I think i'm going to give him my mitsu td04h turbo... it may be small enough to spool quickly. what do you think? also i thought that these motors were internaly cooled. my buddy says that he spotted a radiator inboard.

my cousin has this done with his 2.3 penta... simple setup, stock t3, custom marine turbo manifold, fuel injection with megasquirt... the results are great, you can run a bigger prop and get way more top end...

at the beginning i remember telling him that he had some balls to megasquirt his boat, but he did it... although FTW he keeps a ghetto rigged carb setup on board which he had to use once

from what i've heard, all pentas have closed loop cooling system, what kills the number 4 exhaust port is when people leave them in the water without the engine on and the water travels up the exhaust
