Does this sound like a bad can of paint? I don't know if this has happened to anyone else. I bought duplicolor acrylic spraypaint both in black and clear to paint my grille & headlight eyebrows. The black went on smooth as glass and the grille looked perfect. The clear instructs you to apply it within one hour of color coat. It was 45 minutes after the color coat on the grille and I started to lay on the clear. At first it looked like I bought metalflake by mistake, then I realised it was bubbles. Tens of thousands of tiny bubbles covered my freshly painted grille & I'm not talking the Bubbles from Trailer Park Boys either. This effectively textured my entire grille in one pass. It looked like le suck.
So for now I layered more black on top & I will have to sand, tack & respray in the two days I'll be back before the 8-11 show. I've never had a problem applying a clear before in this manner and certainly not with duplicolor which has always been decent paint before.

Sounds like either the two aren't compatible, the black wasn't dry enough, the clear wasn't mixed thoroughly enough, or yeah, you got a fubar'd can of paint!
My dad had a batch of custom-mixed spray paint a while back that actually NEVER hardened after 8 months! Took it back to find they'd not put in nearly enough hardener.

Black wasn't dry enough, or too humid.

what kind of weather were you painting in????
and stupid question did you really shake up the can???
also did you use any alcohol based product for cleaning the parts.. clear coat hates alcohol.. i was clearcoating something that had alcohol based markers in it, and it dripped and i beleive it bubbled also

Did you spray anything with silicone near it? It sounds a lot like silicone contamination.

Not too soon for second coat but too late. I've used that paint and it dries very fast, I recoated in like less than 10 minutes.

Krylon fusion owns:zeeall: Sounds like you might have gotten some Enamel paint and some lacquer based clear? They don't like eachother...was it bubbles or "fish eyes"?
