I have never seen a NZ bricker on here before so welcome. Those cars look great and the white 240 is gangster. If things keep going south here in the states i am moving to New Zealand, they have Volvo's, they speak English, they don't mess with anyone, and when the crazy country's start firing of the nukes i have a feeling NZ will be the only one thats not toast.

Looks like I need to post some more in that case!
(*edit - and there are three other Kiwis I can think of on here too!)

Is this Alex? Thought I might catch you on here at some stage! Quite a collection you got going there. I'm sure I've seen KB9556 around Wellington, am I right? What track are you at in that pic?

Still haven't got in touch with the guy about the gearbox...

yup, this is alex, KB9556 used to live in wellington with a previous owner, he sold it to the guy i bought it off, i got it for $200 wof and reg, had a rust HOLE about 10cm by 30cm in rear guard, still a good deal i thought

Is this the baby blue car?
If so, it's not all that easy; it can be done with a bit of hacking-around, glueing/welding, painting etc ... 'cos you essentially have to make new light mounts that'll allow you to point them correctly, Volvo never put the old-style lights on cars with the new guards so a lot of the factory old-style pieces are just the wrong shape.

What's the deal with the baby-blue car though? I see it's badged 244GLE, and has the same interior as a 244GLE had in Australia, but the grille & waistline-trim & bumper-trims & taillights & rims & gauge-cluster are the same as a GL here (and the gutter trims are 264GLE here). Do you know if that's a standard 244GLE in NZ, or has someone upgraded some bits?

Its been registered as a 244GLE its whole life so i assume its always been like that, i really like the look of quad rounds so would love to modify it to fit them

also, all the trim is the same as the grey one has and that one is also a 244gle so i guess that thats NZ GLE spec maybe

I'd say it's the UK spec GLE, unlike the one we get which is a GLT over there, it could still have a a b21 in it for instance.

volvoboi

Yeah, it has a b21 in it, so we must have UK spec GLEs

Did Volvo's actually get sold new in NZ? I ask because when I was over there almost 10 years ago now, I stayed in Wellington for a week and then travelled around the South island for about a week, and I only saw three Volvo's in that entire time, a 740 Turbo wagon, a 265 in very poor condition, and a 360GLT on a dealers lot.

Also from what I hear, lots of the Volvo's over there have weird specifications, and appear to be UK or Jap models etc. which wouldn't be surprising, considering the high number of grey import vehicles in NZ.

all 3 of mine are NZ new so im guessing they were sold new, things have definately changed in 10 years then, hundreds of them around

our grey import vehicles are pretty much always 1994+ japanese cars

Yeah I know 2 if not 3 of my 700's are NZ new, I barely ever see 200's so I'm guessing they never sold well here or they weren't sold new, but plenty of 700/900's cruising around

What year is it? '81?

It looks Uk GLE trimwise, but it'd need leccy windows and mirrors, a sunroof, PAS and central locking to be a GLE and I can't tell from the pics.

The one thing that is odd is the rear lights - only Uk DL's had the large reverse lights and only 79/80 at that. By '81 the DL's had joined the GL's/GLE's and GLT's in having the large rear foglight.

yeah it is an 81

has front electric windows, electric mirrors ( that dont work) no sunroof (only my 264 has one? neither of my 244s do), has central locking, whats PAS?

also most of the 240s i see driving round have the large reverse lights

i know of at least 20 200 series in my area, probably a whole heap i dont know about too

the grey one is the exact same spec as the blue one, same year features etc, also a GLE, im confosed
