New Years Resolution time guys!

Big EDIT!

In the forum layout crap

Where: Volvo Tuning, Bromsgrove

When: 28th Febuart 2004

What time: 9am

Price: If booked place on rollers, £35. If not, just your petrol!

Directions: See volvo tunings site http://www.volvotuning.co.uk

More details are below

Right, the plan is to meet at Volvotuning in Bromsgrove just before 9AM (for the running order of the dyno to be set out).

If you want your car on the rollers, get some figures, then give Adam a call at VolvoTuning on 01527 577710, cost is £35 per car. There are a limited number of places on the rollers, so if you want to dyno your car, get on the phone ASAP

If you dont want your car on the rollers (why not!!) then come down and meet up anyway. Me (Griz), Chesh and Dr Dokeh have already put our names down, there will be a lot of FWD 850's there, so its not just going to be us 3!, there will be other cars other than ours to have a laugh at!

After the runs have been completed, we will be driving to a pub (and some nice roads as well!) for a drink and to talk and compair Volvo's
Hopefully we can get some video of us UK Tbrickers in action!

More information, and maps to volvotunings site can be found on there site http://www.volvotuning.co.uk

So come on guys, get your finger out, book a place, come down :-D

Well I'll reply to ya griz. 5 views and no replies.

I guess its best to hold it somewhere central in the UK and then hopefully as many of the vast UK Turbo brick owners can attend.

I did mention that there was a Volvo Rolling Road day somewhere near you in Brum that i'm possibly gonna to attend. Perhaps thats a possible venue or something to try and kick it off.

But before we plan anything lets get the others in the UK to register some interest in this post and then we can start planning.

Oh yes, i totaly forgot about that, didnt you say it was in bromsgrove? I know that RICA (custom mapped ECU's) are in bromsgrove, not far from me at all, only 40mins say...

Well its a start anyway, it would be good to get us UK lot all together at least once this year, get pics of my drive crammed full of volvos :-D

Assuming that my mom and dad like the idea (shouldnt be a problem)

I know I"m thread jacking BUT..... I got a UK based Mag for christmas "Evo". Good magazine if you could afford the cars. Anyways, in one picture, they are at a drift even. There is a line of cars, M3, ferrari, 200SX, 240SX etc etc.... AND THEN there is a White 245!!! WIth a roof rack!

You guys should track this guy down... I think in the picture I can even see the owner standing there...... Maybe it is one of you guys?!

im up for it , but having no FWD turbos you are putting yourself in the 740, 940 category and thats it . the 480 guys are having a big un in may - which will be well organised , its in wiltshire , i dont see a prob with hooking up , otherwise its just 4 or 5 hardened members .

Well to try and get something going meet wise, I have booked myself a place on a Volvo Rolling Road Day which is on the 28th Febuary 2003 with arrival at just before 9am.

It is being held at Volvo Tuning in Bromsgrove which is just south of Birmingham Near the M42 J1 or the M5 J4/J5.

When i booked my place with the chap called Adam from there he was keen because he'd never seen a moddified RWD Volvo and was also as interested as me to see what it will kick out.
The majority of the cars that will be there on the day will be the FWD 850/70 series.

The cost is £35 per car and to book a place on the rollers give Adam a call at VolvoTuning on 01527 577710.

I'm sure other volvo owners are welcome to turn up and watch but hey why not book a place and see what ya car's doing regardless of its state of tune. It could highlight that there is problem with ya car and give y an advance warning.

We'll open this to as many Volvo people here on the board including the FWD crew of the 400 series. I'm pretty sure Dr Dokeh is interested in coming and he has a 460.
At the end of the day Turbobricks may be a RWD forum but we UK members are so small that we should welcome all that come onto the board. Besides we are all into volvo's and seeing what can be achieved. Me i'd like to see some tuned 400 series running.

Then afterwards we can go for a drive out to a pub, shoot some video and do whatever.

So Come on post up on here all that are interested.

grizlyadams
01-05-2004, 02:57 PM
Chesh how many places are left on that?

Ok, bit of an over reaction, sorry, 480 guys! I just dont want us to end up in a 480 meet, id like it to be a Turbobricks meet, not us tagging along to your meet, but we will have to see....

Im all up for showing the FWD lot what a real volvo can do (may...that give me loads of time to make mine just a bit faster!)

If your reading this, and in the UK and own a volvo (of any type at all) get involved, daves right (for once) we dont just want us 4 hardcore RWD owners.

There's quite a few places left at the Rolling Road day, just ring adam and book a spot. I said i would try and get some other Turbo Brickers to ring him and book a spot.

Griz, even if ya car isnt tuned up by then it'll be interesting to see how much torque the "Comfort Engine" kicks out.
After all its sposed to be tuned for loads of torque for that Caravan meet.

End of feb, if ive got a job, maybe MBC, Head and Cam, maybe an exhaust, would be good just to have a look at the power its got stock now anyway.

I will ring him later this week.

If I can....I'm there....but....

1) I can't bring a Volvo. Term time, I leave the 360 with my folks in Devon (this year at least).

2) I might not be able to make it, as I'm relying on my flatmate.

3) He has a (mainly visually) modded Micra...would it be allowed on the rollers at a Volvo meet? I doubt it'll set any records....despite having a top-spec (factor) engine and a powerflow exhaust, its still only got 60bhp.

Come one come all!

Anyones welcome, so long as you have a volvo somewhere (doesnt mater if you bring it or not), then you will be welcome

Then us lot will tell you how to mod that 360 :-D

01-23-2004, 08:10 PM
I think you'll like the micra....it makes a very naughty noise (quite classy, all things considered), and the guy has a sense of humour about it...the whole thing started as a joke to piss off the local nova-boy!

All I need to do now is talk him into going now...

If you can talk him into it, it would be a laugh at a volvo rollers day! ive not got any problems (btw this is all aranged on the back of the volvo tuning rollers day, its just a meeting of us silly lot)

i wanted to arange a Uk Tbricks meet sometime this year and chesh thought of the rollers session as an interesting idea to get more people to come, something to do, other than just meeting up and finding a pub, i think its going to be a good day, there is a few people coming from the 480 lot, the VOC T5 lot, and a few from us Tbricks lot.

Hope to see you there

Also, if people could get their contact details to either me or chesh (via PM or Email or something, im always in the chat room!) with your REAL names, and i will give you my details so that we are able to contact eachother if there are any problems or anything.

Hope to see you all there

We'll still be there (well....probably...), but they won't let the Micra on the rollers, what with it not being a Volvo and all...

Man that sucks, WTF's wrong with a micra, FWD 460's/480's/850's arnt real volvos either, but they are allowed on the rollers

You still coming down to laugh at us lot? cool

See you all on the 28th

Well, they said it was a Volvo day, so Volvos only! But I'm a Volvo person I protested....well you can still come and watch and eat the food....fair play I guess...

Still, they seem to be helpful guys, and Adam suggested where I can go to get my carb tuned to the new cam.

I'm hoping to come still, but I'm not sure what my mate will say if he can't get on the rollers.

Just a quick Q about the UK dyno day, I'll be attending more as a supporter of you guy's as I'll be in the old escort.
However I don't suppose that anyone would know if there is any parking nearby? as I doubt they want non participant's taking up space in there car park.
I'm only asking as I have no idea how they are located(could be the high street for all I know).

I now have to ask a small favour of one of our UK bricker's, Chesh is there any chance that you could bring along your M90 if you haven't got it fitted by then, the reason I ask is that I'd like to take a few measurement's for future reference, just in case the escort kill's the 2 M46's I've got.

Tune it to the limits of the drivetrain (240bhp sounds like a safe figure) and have some fun!! Should hit 60 in under 6s and 100 in under 10 with that kinda power. Standing quarter ought to be awesome too.

Really wanna see your 262c - sounds nice!!

I'm about to post in the showroom if you want a quick look at my cars...

I know the welsh boys will not come, so sod them...no idea about chesh in bedford, and dave (where ever he lives!), theres a few other guys out there somewhere (hopefully).

But anyway, as you 2 are in derby, im quite happy to drive up and see you two at V6 mans, see those 2 nice PRV's

I'm easy on the location, and as I say can give Foggy a lift. I see from the profiles that Dr Dokeh is in Cardiff, Chesh in Bedford and Ravennexus is in Rhyl so a meet in the W Mids somewhere, e.g. Wolves, Kidderminster etc, is about an hour and a half from all of us (apart from Griz, who gets to save fuel!).
If you all want a meet in Derbyshire 8-) , we have plenty of good pubs and some good roads for a thrash :badboy:
Anyway, over to you lot.......

lots of pubs and good roads round here, we had planned to make a vid of the dyno day, with lots of shots of us driving in convoy style (only very fast!)....but weather thats ever going to happen!

Also my drive is very big (good for perhaps 8+ cars, maybe more) so could be a good starting point :-P

Yea, and it would save me so much gas :-D

Do you want me to invite Pete Moorcroft (guy with the mental 'max power' style 740 estate). He'll have to come up from Devon, but as long as we're nice to him (there's a story there) I doubt he'd mind. He's certainly well up for helping the UK scene develop - he goes over to Sweden every year because the UK scene has been stagnant for so long (Fair comment, I think).

I know its not necessarily the look most of us are going for, but the ridicule he's got from certain corners of the Volvo community in the past is well out of order (note: totally not aimed at you guys - I'm talking about the T5 guys who think a RICA chip constitutes a worked on motor).

Secondly, I've been chatting to a guy from (Shrewsbury?) who is well up for meet-ups. He has a 360 GLT with 17s and a few body styling mods (smoked clusters, etc), plus a long term plan for a B230FT swap (damn him....if he beats me...!), which I might be helping him with (on the electronics side). Not seen any pics, but sounds interesting. Shall I let him know?

Mate, invite who you like!.....so long as they have a volvo

If you can get pete involved here, so much the better, and remember, cheshs car is his old car!

As for the guy with the 360 on 17"'s, sure why not, get him on the board, the more the merryer :-D

Now all we have to do is agree on a time, a place and a date :-P

Why is it looking even more like my place is in the centre of the universe

Apparantly Chesh's car isn't Pete's old one. The guy who sold it to Chesh saw Pete's, and wanted to make a copy, so bought many of Pete's old parts from him (including the Polaris copies and the modified Plast & Son bodykit).

I'll send some emails...

Does a 240 converted to be a pick-up count as a modded Volvo?? :???:
If so I could get a mate with one to bring it along, it still needs work doing on it - at the mo it's just hand painted while he sees if it is worth spraying up properly. It's a shame he scrapped his 740SE estate with a B30A (164 engine), that was a smart car!!!!
Could also get an 850R with chip and exhaust along, 310bhp sounds good too me.
It seems that somewhere near Griz is the favoured location, now pick a day.

Sounds like a nice bunch if you can get them to come (been thinking about a pickup job on the 245 for ages). And it doesnt have to be a modded volvo!, so long as its got a volvo badge (or some volvo part in it), there welcome to come to our little gathering.

Lucky me, you all desend on poor little kinver!

Oooh! 740 with a B30! That guy in Ripley has two 164s in his back yard - both beautiful condition. I'm really quite tempted to buy a 164 when I can - Dad borrowed one when I was a kid and I fell in love with it. Would have to be a B30E though, as the B30A was a bit limp (rather like the B200K vs B200E in the 360...I got the bum deal!)

Bump!, and to update for people how havent seen the events forum thread.

There was a Dyno day meet planned for the 28th of feb of this year, but a week before, Adams rang everyone to say he had killed the dyno, and that the day was called off untill they fix the dyno.

So between then and now, theres been a few more UK members join/become active, and it was suggested (by V6 man) to get together. After hashing out a few things, we have decided to meet in a pub, just to meet up, and talk volvos, get some photos and vid of a carpark of volvo's all in a row, sad geeky stuff like that.

Looking for somewhere around the midlands...somewhere round where i live (im not pushing anyone into anything, im happy for the meet to be anywhere) in around a months time (that will be the 3rd of April). I know there are a few members that havent seen the post update or anything, and there are other none board members that may come, but it would be good if anyone that might beable to make it, post here to confirm if they could attend a meet in the west midlands area in the 3rd of April.

Ok there will be no dyno day, and its just some volvo modding nuts meeting and talking volvos, but im hoping we can get a good turnout (more than 3 will be a good turnout!)

Any ideas, any suggestions are welcome...

He used a B30A coz he had one lying around, it came out of a 164 that suffered from a large attack of moth! Also it was felt that a carb engine would be an easier fit with not much in the way of electrics to worry about. The project was an experiment to see if it could be done, no other reason. The engine JUST fits between the rad and the bulkhead, a custom airbox is needed to clear the brake servo/mastercyl, custom engine mount brackets/choke cable/throttle cable and a 164 gearlever as a normal 700 one hit the dashboard. Exhaust was a 164 downpipe cut/welded to a 740 system with no front box (it sounded great!). It also had a few cosmetic additions like body coloured grille/mirrors/bumpers/panel under headlights and a 740 S6 badge on the tailgate.
Unfortuately, the engine went about six months later so it was parked up awaiting a new one. In that time people came needing rear lights, radiator, steering rack and finally a 164 gearbox and as he had no others at the time the decision was made to scrap the car. All the custom bits and a remote linkage for the servo are now boxed up awaiting a decent condition engine and body. One day the 740 S6 will rise again!!!

Oh, the B30 will not fit in a 200 series, we tried that. Sorry Griz!

Anyway, does it now look like the UK meet is at Griz's on 3rd April??

I was actualy thinking of a PRV turbo like John Lane, or maybe the good old Rover V8......

As for the meet, i will (as chesh asked me to) for a pub with a garden overlooking the carpark, so that we can see the volvos etc....

If theres no more ideas as to where to meet, then i will work out a pub, and get you some directions etc.

Also, PM me with contact info if you are going to come, just in case there are any last min changes!, and to get an idea of who will be turning up.

And remember, there is no dyno day, no racing tracks, no planned event (ok maybe some spirited driving :badboy: ) just a few of us meeting up for a drink and a chat about volvos and the meaning of life.

See you all soon
