Try mason/dixon.
Isn't that in Hagerstown? You'll be fighting traffic on 270.Too bad they closed 75/80.Manassas is only 1/8 mile. This is the reason We like the Sunday Test & Tunes @ MIR. No traffic & its a lot less crowded/fuxated. We need to get more DC area T-brickers out to MIR.

I've never raced on MIR, but I've been there lots of times. I've run about 4 times at mason/dixon, and I really like that track, even if it is way up north. The number of runs really varies though. I'd run at MIR on a sunday in late august if we can get a group together.

that would be excellent... ill raise the boost up to 25 and try to blow my motor with some slicks in recognition of the event

you gonna be able to tell me what to do if I end up trying to do my differential at gregs place?
Assuming my car is running by then (find out tomorrowish!) id like to get it done and get my locker in place and finally run it at the track

Sure, I can help pull it apart and put it back together. Rob can probably assist in putting the locker guts in the carrier. Prying the diff out of the housing might be the hard part (sometimes they come right out and sometimes they're in pretty good, but it takes a large pry bar, and getting leverage under the car might be tricky). Installation of the diff is done with a dead blow plastic coated sledge hammer when mikeP does it. Again, might be tricky under the car. On a lift, it's much easier.

the 3rd could definitely work. better to drag race after the autocross than before. ;-) I thought he meant the 2nd because he said "sunday", but monday is even better. just hope it's not packed.
should I split these posts into a new Events thread?

I didn't think of this before, but will my car pass tech with the battery in the trunk and no exterior cutoff switch (assuming they notice the battery isn't in the engine bay, ASSUMING they even want to see under the hood)? I tried looking on the website, but it's so horrible that I gave up. Last time at mason/dixon, the guy asked "anything done under the hood?" and I said "not really" so he didn't even look at it.

the battery can be anywhere, just needs to be held down somehow... bungee cord passes... really though they won't inspect our cars, i've never had them look under my hood or at the car at all... they only seem to inspect cars with big blocks and carbs... they see a volvo and just pass it

OK, cool. The hold down is solid and it passes autoX tech where a loose battery is the #1 reason to fail a car.

if your car passes autox i can pretty much bet it will pass any MIR inspection, assuming you're over the 12.99 mark.
Then they get a little more anal. Leaks are the biggest concern they have.

hotter in MD lol, and more humid.
Got sunburnt easier though.
EDIT: AND MY CAR STARTED UP TODAY.
Massive oil leak i was worried about, the high-pressure line to the turbo doesn't really clear the t4 housing, i made it as tight as i could without thinking i was going to shear a bolt or pull the threads, ill see tomorrow if tightening it more did it, but I am skeptical.

I'm tempted to come down and see what my chipped 940t will do at 10 psi. I have a driveline rumble, though. U joints fine, spacing up the center bearing mount to compensate for lower springs helped some but still have rumble. Billy said it might be motor mounts.

MrBill
08-25-2007, 06:08 PM
it hasnt blown up yet
BUTTT
On the way to crazy rays to get a radiator for my other 242 (found a nissens btw, w/thermal switch:)) The car would sputter at 3k+ rpm. If I reset MS, it would go away and then come back.
Unsure of the causes, MS was hot I could still hold it, but it was hot. It was hot outside too. I'll have to look at my dwell and see it may be set too high, may also be a bad coil, but id expect it to be more consistent.
So on the way home I had to pull over and reset the MS again. Pulling back out the downpipe caught something and was pulled off. awesome. Well during that it pulled my wideband mob out of its little cubby onto the downpipe and melted the **** out of it and ruined it, and i mean ruined.
Good think I have another one, but I am pretty bummed right now.

Saving my money for a windshield, state inspection (currently expired), and some tickets. I'm probably not going to autocross on the 2nd either. Car needs work...
I'm planning to ride down with Rob. His car should be worth seeing if it all comes together in time. Hopefully it DRIVES back onto the trailer to go home.

I'm tempted to run my 940 although the trans gave me an OMGWTF moment yesterday when it began to rev freely but there was no corresponding forward movement around 20mph. It might have been low on fluid, always been a bitch to get an accurate level reading, hot or cold.
However, I found the kickdown cable inner wire cable loose at the linkage spool thingie but not disconnected from the spool. Seemed to be binding in the cable housing or trans. Shutting her down and romping on the gas pedal a few times seems to have freed it up, trans operates normally now.
Mike, I am signed up for the autocross Sunday. Do you want to take a turn behind the wheel of my 240, join MikeP on the list of people who can autox my 240 faster than I can?

this is a place where bungee cords count as a battery hold down... i think that should be fine... if anything they will just look and see that there is some kind of support... i usually only see them check big block drag cars w/ carbs... they see something with fuel injection and just wave on through...

i put clutch and pressure plate in yesterday and washed the car today, got my camera and stuff so i should be ready to go, also got random boost hoses so MrBill can fix his hose when i get there to run his car...
Got the oil leak mostly sorted, and tires are mounted up. Gotta do some messing with the launch control this weekend, and turn the boost back up. I'm getting excited!
you towing or driving?

yeah you should... you know whatever you drive, you can still race it.. one night my bud showed up in his mom's caravan and we convinced him to race and he won the bracket racing because of the consistency of that thing

IF you are going to race wear long pants... there is some rule about wearing long pants to race that i have never seen enforced but just to be safe, DON'T wear shorts!
ALSO if your car is faster than 14.0 (Rob) bring your helmet, that rule IS enforced... if your car is almost faster than 14.0, bring a full helmet just in case...
If you are going just to watch, I will be letting people (as long as I see you aren't a retard) drive my car down the strip... so if you want to try that you will also have to wear long pants...
If you are strictly there to watch and do not plan to drive whatsoever 6-pack cans of beer are allowed to be brought in to drink in the stands... no bottles, no crazy drinking... if you tend to get thirsty bring some gatorade or something in a cooler... they have a food stand there and that is good enough for me...
anything you think you might need, bring it... tools, spare parts, etc... bring your cameras and whatnot, i will be taking videos the best i can
everybody come out tomorrow and have a fun time! gates open at 10...

Gotta find somebody with a welder that is closer than an hour from me :)
And who will be in town this weekend :)
And more stuff.
I have a cheap-ass Craftsman wire feed. Come pick it up as no welding here at this fricking high rise condo.

BTW, guys, if I make it down, will be in afternoon and only to spectate (and only if the GF agrees to drive us down, thats a big 'only if')
Have some car trade business to tend to in the morning. My 945's kickdown cable is good and truly ****ed so no racing or driving for that matter.

Rob was given a huge hassle at tech for various "safety issues."
In the end, they wouldn't let him run slicks without a driveshaft hoop. He ran 13.1 @ 108 on the street tires.
Matt was running mid/low 14s, Mick got booted for tire issues, MrDoug was breaking in his new T5 conversion, and I managed a 14.8 @94.
The racing kinda sucked because they only let the street cars go for one loop at a time. I managed 4 runs in the 6 hours we were there. All in all, a good time though. Still about 20 degrees hotter than ideal.

Yeah it was a good time, my DD 242 got a new best of 15.692@89.76, with a 2.445 60'
I think I can hit a 15.5 at least with better tires/better launch!
Edit: towery missed second in my car

i would have no problem with that if the stupid gambler racers didn't take up all the racing time... my car ran 6 or 7 times but i only ran it once, ending up letting everyone else drive it

I managed a 15.77@89 in mrBill's 242. The 1-2 shift was kenny-esque. On the third synchroless jab of 2nd gear, it finally went and I was able to resume my run after a brief pause. Get some tires that don't suck and a trans that works and it will be low 15s easily.
