ok so who is going i went last year and the weather stunk but it was still fun, so who is going this year? i know it is a ways away but i have noticed attendance requires notices well ahead of time. if we get 25 cars on display our club can have a tent for free...hmmm turbobricks tent sounds nice.

i'll go!!!
i coulda sworn that they were not bringing it back this year but whatever...
we could have an eastcoast caravan....starting with isaac and the rest of the FLA boys moving up up up
would be sweet, good way to meet a bunch of TBricksters finally!

The custom compact show will be elsewhere (early May, usually).

The import/kit-replicar show will be on as scheduled (mid May).

25 will be easy. Signup in advance and it's $15 for the weekend. $20 at the gate.

There is no problem attenting whatever times you can (although be aware there are no night activities). You come and go as you please, with most of the action taking place on Saturday. If you do arrive Friday afternoon, you can cruise the vendor tents and indoor booths to try to make some quick deals on parts, accessories, etc. Some bargains are to be had as Sunday wears on, and these vendors seek to cut inventory at reduced prices.

Camping is available on grounds, though not on the showfield, itself. On top of a hill overlooking the showfield is a parking lot for those who didn't wish to park a car along with their fellow enthusiasts on the showfield. Beyond this hill, in a broad gully between the hill and the PA Turnpike, lays the auto-x course.

To the North of the p-lot and track is the camping area. Easily walkable to the showfield and vendors. I don't knnow what they have for water, toilet, electric, etc.

Contact Cars at Carlislse directly for information.

Definitely come if you can make it for Sat. afternoon. I'd say between 11am-2pm is when there are the most people there, and there are more cars on Sat. than on Fri. and Sun. combined.

I'm going up friday and leaving sunday, so I'll be camping on the grounds (since it WILL be dry this year. ). Camped last year, was cold and wet.

Allrighty, so are we doing a TBricks campsite, or is it a "fend for your own dry spot and raid Mike's tent in the middle of the night with watering pitchers to make sure it is most certainly not dry this year" type thing?
Seriously though, I think I may come up Fri and leave Sat evening....campfires at the camp site? Drinking at the campsite? S'mores?

Campers were few and far between last year, so there should be more than enough room.

I can't remember if there were camp fires last year, but I think there may have been. Maybe not.

There was heavy drinking, of course. AFAIK, you can walk the show field with a beer in hand.

There's one gate open 24hr. There is a permanent structure with bathrooms and showers. At the camp site, there were a few portable toilets a short walk away (closer than the building).

If you just want to show up and check out the cars, it's $6 (Fri.), $7 (Sat.), or $5 (Sun.). If you park on the grounds (not on the show field), it's another $5 per day.

Or you can register in advance, pay $15, and get in all 3 days with your car on the showfield.

Yes, sign up for the show field. It's not a judged show, so you really don't need a "show car" at all. Last year most of us had mud on our cars at some point because of the wet weather and cold. I think I cleaned mine up a little for Sat., and I usually wash it a day or two before I go so there's not much to do once I'm at the show.

Don't let your car's "beater" status discourage you from parking on the showfield. It is not a contest at all. It is just the show's way of organizing like-minded enthusiast's in one spot so they can enjoy talking about the marque they like.

I doubt the volvo will be ready to drive yet then. If any one has a 007 amm or a drivers headlight that they want to donate to me cheap it will help me car get there. Oh if we do bring the GLI does anyone object to parking it with all of u since it is cheeper to park the car on the feild than to pay to get in.

You can still be on the show field, but there will probably be a parking area for VW's. Usually a few show up. You could park with the Volvos, but it might look odd. I know we all thought it was odd when a guy parked his old american sedan with the volvos cause he had one that couldn't make it to the show.

I'll be on the auto-x course most of the time. :x:

Did you make it back for the autoX sunday? I didn't see your car around the showfield, so I'm assuming you drove one of the earlier sessions if you did at all. I did the 1:30pm group, and turned 77.2 and I think 76.8 on my two 3-lap runs.

Where was your braking spot into turn 1? I was standing on the pedal when I hit the crest, and I was told at least one rear wheel was locking up. That was a lot of fun, because it's not often I get to go that fast in a straight line towards a corner on an autocross course and use the brakes like that.

John S745
05-23-2004, 10:44 PM
Good job Michael! hopeful next time my car won't be running so lean so I can enter it in the event. And man my head head was ringing by the time I got home from driveing on the turnpike with an open down pipe. haha. Well it was fun, also it was good to see all the volvos there.

Zee
05-24-2004, 05:36 AM
Did you make it back for the autoX sunday?

No. I went, instead, to my club auto-x event at Giant's Stadium in New Jersey. Large course, eight runs and good bunch of folks (NASA = National Auto Sports Association/Northeast Division). Turned in a 40.7 in the afternoon session which was a full 1.3 seconds faster than me best morning runs. Beat out a couple of Neons, and the like.

Car failed tech. Drove 1.5 hours to the event only to have the tech guy tell me my alternator belt was hanging off the car! Broken adjuster bolt. So I robbed the one from the non-working AC compressor below. Fitted it, tightened the 13mm x 3" bolt/nut and THAT bolt snapped! Now, I am wondering if I'll even get HOME, let along onto the course. Robbed another 13mm nut from the back alternator and used two nuts on the broken locking bolt (now, just a threaded rod) to finally secure the alt with enough belt tension, held only by the lockiing (not any adjusting) bolt.

I just did a transmission R&R this week trying to fix oil, transmission and diffy leaks. That complex major work hold, but both bolts for the alternator snap?

Gimmie a break!

I didn't see your car around the showfield, so I'm assuming you drove one of the earlier sessions if you did at all.

Last year I did the Sunday Auto-x, which is when/how I got the bug for this. This time I opted for the Saturday driver's school to pick up on some lacking education. The instructor worked on getting me to make wide, looping bends on those twp hairpin turns at each end of the course. I kept wanting to dive too early into the first, inside cone, which put me too far to the outside by the exit of the turns. Once I got it right, the car was turned correctly for the straights.

I did the 1:30pm group, and turned 77.2 and I think 76.8 on my two 3-lap runs.

Yeah, you showed improvement. Always a good feeling to leave on a positive note. How did you like the lapping-style of their event vs. the once-through auto-x usually found? More like racing, what? I found you get to work on some technique when you have several passes at it.

Where was your braking spot into turn 1?

Ha-Ha-Ha. This is one thing the instructor was trying to get me to back off from! ON the first few laps he told me I kept going deeper into the zone. Once I got too deep ( and wide around the turn...Did you see the rut in the grass at the left side of the exit?), the he began telling me to get on the brakes sooner.

He wanted me to start braking at the first cone. I wanted the third. We settled at the second cone. At the far end, it was the third cone, because I carried more speed into the uphill bend.

I was standing on the pedal when I hit the crest, and I was told at least one rear wheel was locking up.

(Geez! My turbo is just kicking in...)

That was a lot of fun, because it's not often I get to go that fast in a straight line towards a corner on an autocross course and use the brakes like that.

Good point about the striaghts being long enought to let it out.

Glad you got involved.

In the classroom driver's meeting, they taught about turn entry, apex, and exit on this course. It was all very helpful Sunday on a wide-open course at Giant's Stadium.

I think I was turning in too early as well. I was pushing the braking point pretty hard, so I was more concerned with getting slowed down enough to make the turn under control w/o squealing the tires.

I really liked the format. The practice laps were a huge help, because I was able to attack right from the start on my first 3-lap session. I felt like I was trying to work on the chicanes more than the hairpins. By the 2nd session, I felt like I was going about as fast as I could through the chicane on the back stretch, sliding the car a little on the left turn, then taking it out to the edge near the cones before slowing for the hairpin. I wasn't trying to get too close to the cones, though, so I might have left some time on the course.

Where were the cones in relation to the ridge where the track started going downhill? I think I was lifting/braking when I got to the ridge. Only a couple of times I had to stay on the brakes after turning in. Usually I was able to let off, turn in, and get on the gas, sometimes too early leading to wheel spin coming out onto the straight. I REALLY could have used a LSD. One time I almost hit the cone coming out of the hairpin. I could have improved my line on that corner.
