Its now getting on through the year so time for another pod meet.
22nd September - RWYB at santa pod. You must know the score by now. Bring your car and we'll see what times we can get, then we let James benchrace on why his is so slow.

Won't be able to make this one, but I'll *probably* be going to one of the last RWYBs at shakey in october if anyone fancies that. I'll probably post up in events if it happens.
I won't bother racing in the escort as I wouldn't want to show up foggy :-P:-P:-P:-P

As for tuning - I need to get the bigger injectors before running at the pod anyway.

Is there any real point in a drag strip meet?
Foggy won't run for fear of being shown up.
Chesh's fast car's in bits.
Nibbles won't run his until it's tuned properly and all the niggly issues are resolved.
I won't run mine until I've confirmed I've solved my clutch probs.
Dokeh's is in bits.
Martin could run, but his S90 wouldn't just do 1/4 mile - it'd end up in Northants......
Mike won't come out of N Wales.
Suterman hasn't got a fast car at the mo.
BBQ's car's in bits.
Griz's fast car's in bits.
Dave can't make it.
SteveP has no fast car.
The list goes on.
What I do suggest is a meet of some sort like we used to have - driving about and then talking bollocks somewhere. It's been a long time since we all met up and it's about time we did so again.
Last year we had loads of meets, this year has been poor so far.

This was foggy's idea and we have plans to get his car ready (at the very last minute as normal I guess).
Tuning mine could get interesting but I will be ordering the injectors shortly so I can get stuck in then.

Bump. I'm still up for this...and hopefully Ryan's car will be ready too.
I've left it too late to sort out the exhaust, but the car went a lot better at the top end when I ripped the backbox off last year. That just means I need to do a clutch & diff swap, and get some sticky rubber. I'd like to have got more done, but two drama queens (a certain 740 and my S70) have eaten into 360-tinkering time.

Im siding with grandad here....why dont we have a good old meet up, talk rubbish, bit of a drive around and some food or something...only point going to drag's is if theres going to be more than a handful running cars...

Unfortunately I've got no chance of making it as I'm working and there's really no point coming in the S40.

I'm still up for it foggy,
I got some work to do myself but I should be ok, I'm up the pod this weekend, in paris all next week which only leaves me one weekend and 5 evenings.
It'll have to be a mini meet if no one else is interested.

The Wolves meet was at the truck stop, IIRC. It was fine, except that the cafe was closed, and we got the most random heckle....a spotty brat in a company van asked how much the cars were worth, and after being told anywhere from £100 to £10,000 (depending on which was referring to), he suggested we'd be better selling them to the scrap man than to a buyer...
...but we weren't trying to sell them...?! :e-shrug:
Well I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm planning to head down there nice and early, run the car, try to get a 15, and get back before the insurance expires at midnight.

foggyjames
09-21-2007, 08:58 PM
Indeed. I got my car back together, but the clutch is dragging for some reason. I've now tightened the cable so much (which has made the dragging just about tolerable as long as you rev-match) that the clutch slips. Add to that that my insurance runs out at mid-day, and the feds have my license (needed for sign-on)...it's not looking like it's going to happen.
Shame, as the car is noticeably quicker with the latest work. :-(
I'm a whole new kind of grumpy about this. I've put in so much work, and if I'd left the old clutch alone (it slipped a bit, but it worked), I'd have had a running car :-( Good luck to Nick, and whoever else is running.

To Ryan and James, sorry you couldn't be there despite the issues I had it was an awesome day and I know how much Ryan wanted to be there, this was a little bit like Sweden situation for me(working for a living sucks).
Thanks to Pete for his awesome assistance with the rad swap, stupid modern volvo plastic end tank rubbish should have used the metal 79' 240 rad! LOL.
Anyway rad split as I got to the pod so emergency dash to Oakley for a quick pit stop then back up to the pod, 5 cars from making a run it started to rain so me and Pete went and got a monster hotdog from the cafe whilst it stop raining.
Baseline run: 15.07 at 89mph, 2.22 60' 10psi
2nd basline: 15.12 at 89mph, 2.22 60' 10psi
3rd run: 15.6 at 52mph, 2.50 60' 16psi abandoned due to massive pinging, audible from grandstand and is evident on video footage
4th run: 14.71 at 93mph, 2.16 60' 16psi still pinging but not as much
5th run: Abandoned due to track closure but quicker than 14.71 as there is now no ping and more torque! Clutch is now toasted and will need replacing before any more track fun!
Over filled the car with oil back at Pete's house, so on the run home it spewed about 1.5ltrs of oil out the breather all over the intake manifold, after driving a little today there is still a little ping at about 2500-2800rpm so I'll pull a bit of timing there and see what happens.
Need to decide what I'm doing with a clutch, I think cossie pressure plate and 9" volvo disc.
Vid links, 1st is best run 2nd is the ping fest:

Yes well done to Nick for breaking my record that i set way back on the 16th October 2005!!!!! Lets hope Nick's record doesnt stand for as long as mine did!!!!!
Nick for you info, here's my data from my run that time.
reac 60ft 330ft 1/8 ET 1/8 MPH 1000 ET 1/4 ET 1/4 MPH
0.516 2.238 6.24 9.633 72.68 12.432 14.950 91.66
As for that Mach 1 it does have the Modular engine but the DOHC Ally block version with 32V
2004 Ford Mustang Mach 1, 310 hp (231 kW) and 335 ft•lbf (454 N•m)
It weighs 3465lbs or 1575kg So there you go if thats any help in comparison.

I hope to move that record myself when I get the clutch changed.
I'm just pleased that the engine has stopped throwing it's fluids all over the engine bay, now that I've dropped the oil level to a sensible amount it's fine.
Need to look at flat flywheel clutch upgrade options, I might start a thread if the search turns up no results.
Thanks for the comments, I pissed myself when I heard Pete at the end of the vid. The ping fest was chopped short but there was also a comment about racing "a saxo of all things"...

09-24-2007, 04:52 AM
As far as grip went I didn't have any trouble, FWD boys that I raced where struggling, I had slip on the last run about 30' out. I also had some 1 day old toyo T1-R's that I dropped the pressure to 28psi from 40 but it just dug in and went, 2.16 60' not sure if I could improve on it that much.
I'm almost certainly going to be attending the fireworks meeting at both Santapod and Shakey and providing I have the clutch sorted I'll putting it down the track. The pod fireworks meeting is invitation only and exhibition runs on Staurday but sunday is RWYB so I'll be helping a friend out with his race car on Saturday and taking more rubber off my tyres on sunday hopefully.
So I don't know if anyone else is game for this, weather will be a bit hit and miss but would still make for a good meet for beer and food etc...

Ryan-
It's invite only for the Saturday but Sunday is an ordinary RWYB so anyone can attend, including us rabble!
Steve and Mike-
I've been meaning to make a showroom thread which would have details of the work I've done.
I've swapped the engine from a B23? to a B23ET, it's still using the stock T3 and has been at 10psi until about 4.30pm saturday when I upped it to 16psi. I megasquirted it when I did the engine swap and aso made a 3" stainless side exit exhaust using an ATP wastegate housing on the stock turbo.
I've changed the front seats to the Civic Type R ones that where destined to go in the Escort(it's getting fixed backs now) and fitted a reasonable sound system(good enough for me)
In the last week I've fitted a nitrous kit, 17" wheels and 55lb/hr injectors, just about got it all finished ready for Saturday.
Interested to see what else it would run with a bit more boost and the gas!

Santapod flame and thunder event is on the 3rd of November, I will warn those intending camping it is cold but with plenty of food and beer you soon get over it, lol.
For the weekend it's £25 and £20 signing on fee for sundays RWYB, if you only come up on the Sunday its £10 entry and same signing on fee. I thought it might be worth coming up on the saturday so we could have the usual bollox talking/bench racing session and alcohol consumption.

It would be a bit of a stretch for me to attend both,
I vote for Griz's place because if he pulls his finger out and orders a clutch (hint hint) we could all muck in on the KW install. And its closer.

Fair point, Mike, but there's two things to consider. Firstly, at Santa Pod there's drag racing and fireworks and stuff. Secondly, Griz's finger will remain firmly inserted.
How about some input from the Grizmeister himself? Gotta be less hassle to just go along to the Pod, surely?
P.S. Don't forget the clutch master cylinder's needed too.

Hi Guy's,
After a successful weekend testing a freinds car at santapod we are no further forward regarding the end of season fireworks meetings.
We intend going to the 27/28th Shakey meet, and I'll be running the 242 as well providing that the clutch is sorted by then.
However if the weather is crap we may skip it and go to the Pod on 4th Nov instead. So it's all a little up in the air at the mo.
I'll let you know more when I know, but at the moment I'll be at Shakey unless some unforeseen incident occurs.
PS, Ordered the steel for my billet flywheel today, hopefully making it this weekend, the cossie pressure plate sure fits nicely on the B18 flywheel I had for mockup :oogle:

Is someone going to make a thread fro the 4th to make sure everyone has a chance to see it?
