View Full Version : October 6th, BBQ / help me get over this tragedy

UPDATE: 9/30/07-----
Here is my contact info and address:
Cell: (650) nine zero six 2 three three 2
Edit: On second thought... PM me for my address...
I'm going to start working at around 9am, so anytime after that when people can show up is great. This probably won't stop until the daylight does. BBQ will probably be about 12:00 or 1:00ish and I'll order us some pizza when people are hungry again.
------------
I know a few of you have already volunteered your time, and you have no idea how much that means to me. I appreciate it more than you could know!
I should have the car ready to have the swap done by October 6th, so that is the day for the BBQ and engine swap party. I need to get some stuff together before then so I am making a list. If anyone has this stuff available and can bring it, please let me know as soon as possible:
Stuff I need:
Intercooler
LH2.2 swap stuff (I already have a B23F intake on the other car)
spring compressors (Covered; thanks Chris!)
*some other things... If you think of anything, please let me know*
The plan is to swap the engine, transmission, convert to LH2.2 and get the suspension in there. The priority is on the engine and tranny and LH2.2. I can always get the suspension done myself if we run out of time.
I am going to try to procure an engine hoist before then. I apologize in advance for my ****ty work space and driveway. (Its kinda sloped a bit and pitted)
Please let me know if you definitely can come, or are still a maybe, so I can get the right amount of food/drinks/etc.
Thanks in advance everyone!!!

If I get a job by then I will schedule that day off. It will be good to get all the **** swapped to your other car.

If it looks like you are not going to have enough hands to get the work done, I'll show up to help, if I can get a freebie mil flight.
I haven't been up there for years, and it would be fun to see what's new.
Will know for sure by Oct 1...

Just got the brick moving again... Aside from the lack of tranny fluid, it seems to run fine. I really need to get the old girl cleaned up, but its going to be one damn fine machine.

Unless I totally forget, yes. As with anything I'm clearing out of the garage, I'd prefer cash over trade (unless it's something that I really really really want for the 760). Not that the IC is worth much.
But... if you're needing spring compressors, you're doing struts? Make sure you have a pickle fork (if you're going to replace the ball joints) or a ball joint puller (if you're not). I'm gonna swing by AutoZone in the next week or so to rent one so I can swap over the front Bilsteins into the gold wagon without destroying everything. Sledge hammers are also nice to have.
Make sure Justin brings his air compressor and Harbor Freight special.

Cool. Name your price on the IC. I don't think I have anything useful for a 760. I will need it one way or another. If more than one comes, I will take it too... never can have too many spare parts ;-)
I should look into that about the suspension. I am not sure how much is going to be able to make the switch since I have not yet looked under the car. Once I figure that out, I will be able to figure out what I need.
I have a big ass crowbar, but I doubt that will be enough to pry the metal away enough to get the engine out of the silver car... I will have to see what I can do before this time.
That process is going to be depressing :-(

Don't fret move on.
It did it's job in the end.
It protected you and Lanny.
I also lost a favorite Volvo, and it too saved a life.
Sitting duck, hit from behind at 55 mph by a Corolla wagon.

And then,
I think you need some chassis braces for those big tires and bars.
Down and dirty,or I might have some stainless tubing if you like purty...

I actually have the upper and lower braces from IPD on the other car already. The only suspension parts I need to move over are the shocks/struts, springs, and I would like to move the brakes since the old ones are rusty, so it might just be easier to move the whole assembly as one.

Here is the other thing; I would like to switch to LH2.2 at some point. Would it be prudent to do that now, or should I just hold off? I don't know if I am going to be able to source the parts in time, so kjet might just have to stay for now...

I was thinking straight shot tower brace AND flathood.
It only takes 15 minutes to make one.

Found a flathood and some other, as of yet, undisclosed goodies at the j/y :-D Lets just say my car is going to be very unique and ultimately sick when it is done.
This looks like it is still a go. Lanny and I worked on the interior swap this weekend (still nowhere near done) and went in on an engine hoist, and he got a metal saw.
The engine mounts are sheared off, but it looks like nothing driveline related shifted, but rather the chassis twisted around the engine. No leaks, just a slight dent in the oil pan, so everything should be good. Suspension is tweaked, but in generally good condition. The shocks, springs and brakes will still transfer over.
Updated the original post with contact info and such. Thanks again to everyone who will be coming!
If you can, please let me know again if you will definitely be there so I can get enough food.

Sweet, thanks for bringing the intercooler. I'll get radiator hoses some time this week, and that should be all I need.
We are still trying to figure out if there is anything else I will need to get the car swapped over to K-jet... (:grrr:) The brick has LH2.0 and the silver car is still K-jet. I dunno if we will need to swap the fuel pumps, or what...? Does anyone have experience with this or know where I can find out more info?

I remember someone mentioning an LH 2.0 [might have been 2.1] harness works with 2.2, and would just need a MAF extension to work right with a turbo setup along with the 2.2 ECU and resistor pack. The fuel pumps should be okay for now, seeing as how there are a good amount of people who have +T'ed NA cars with the stock fuel pumps. The only thing after that is ignition. Are you doing EZK? Or you could run LH with the 240 Turbo ignition.
blarf
10-02-2007, 03:59 PM
LH 2.0/2.1 is great and all, but only the LH 2.4 240s got EZ-K ignitions. So, yea, it is a bit of work to get any turboable LH into a 240. You'll almost certainly want the K-Jet fuel pumps since they run higher pressure (and K-Jet is very pressure sensitive).

I know 2.4 is the only setup that came from the factory with EZK, but it really is'nt that hard to convert a non-EZK car to EZK.
Also, my orange car originally had a tweaked Chysler ignition setup that worked pretty well with the B230FT and LH 2.2.

LH 2.2 would be sweet. The 81 was running K-Jet tho, right? So LH 2.2 sensors will be needed, right?

Yep - it is extra work/parts but it is'nt too hard and it pwns K-Jet. We built an adaptor for my car to stick the coolant temp sensor in head [should be the same for whatever head is on Logans car], and drilled+tapped the block for the knock sensor for the EZK.

Wow... I really wish I knew what I was doing... I mean... I understand all that, but have no idea how to go about doing it. I think at this point, I would like to do whatever is easiest and quickest to get the car running solid. I will be working on the performance aspect of it for probably years to come, but right now... I just want a running car.
Btw, anyone who wants to crash here overnight, if you are coming a long distance, or whatever, you are free to do so. Just know that my dad gets up at around 6:30am. Also if you plan on it, let me know so I can plan some kind of breakfast.

Ok, so theoretically, if I were to swap to LH2.2... what would I need? I know I would need the computer, sensors and possibly the fuel pumps. What else?
The target car is a B23F running LH2.0 and the donor car is a B21FT running K-Jet...

Fuel pumps will probably be okay. The big problem in my mind would be wiring up the ignition. Maybe I'm too conservative, but I don't like the idea of running something that's so aggressive as the lean burn ****e with boost. But, hey. Drive conservatively until you get EZ-K wired up? :e-shrug:
Of course there's prolly a Walboro in yer future fuel pump wise. Otherwise, if you can find the time and effort in the near future to trade fuel pumps with me, my green wagon has a nearly new Bosch pump (dunno if there even is a difference between turbo and non pumps).
