It's pretty dam nice setup and sounds great, yet If i was going through all that trouble of doing an 8v swap I'd do a turbo setup. Like this...

i totally agree, less is more though. i see the 140 seris car like the datsun 510 and swaping an sr engine sure its good, but i personally think the L28 in a 510 with carbs is well pretty damn sexy

Why don't you just buy a carburated 240??? The engine is already there.

Wonder what gearbox its running. Sounds quite noisey so could be straight cut gearset.
Awesome, neat car.
142's rock.
Wonder how much power its makin? looks like it was around 180 maybe 200bhp.
Whats the weight difference between a 142 and 242?

if it was making 180-200bhp will straight cut gears be necessary. i am sure it weighs around 2200-2500? 240 is probably close to 3000.

Whips out '71 Green Book.
Curb weight
142 =1190 kg /2618 lb
144 =1180 kg /2596 lb
145 =1230 kg /2706 lb
A 144 is 22 lbs lighter!?!
Probably @300 lbs lighter I dunno.

I think most 242's are around 3000Lbs, where as most 142's come in at 2600lbs.

John's 244 was like 2900 with him in it. My 242 is ~ 2800 with me in it and about 2650 without me in it.
The early 140 is lighter due to lack of door bars, less heavy seats than the 240, smaller fuel tank, no power steering, no A/C, notably lighter dash/heater box, no k-jet in the 140 (unless you have a '74) and a generally even more plain interior. Still, a 242DL without a sunroof, A/C and skinny bumpers is not wildly heavier than a 140 bone stock. I'll exclude US/CAN giant aluminum freakshow "commando" bumpers from both since I'd rather not acknowledge they exist on so many decent looking and handling european cars.
The slim 240 brake booster and cylinder head are MUCH lighter in a 240 than the 140 stuff. Put the later PS non-A/C bracket in the 240 an poke and prod though the lighter of the 240 parts and I doubt the difference would be all that large. Not to mention all the later 240 engine brackets and M47 is alloy case.
I just like the early 140 because it looks so much better than a 240 and the simple dash/heater layout and lack of nasty 240 plastic crap (like window cranks and ish) is very nice and classier to me. The vertical tail light back end is also awesome.

Same one?
Edit: If it is, maybe the carbs were traded for a turbo or vice versa.
