I am good friends with pat (brickster151) and he has gotten me into liking volvo's. One in particular are the 200 series. So for the past couple months i have been on the look out for a 262c bertone. And here is what i came across on ebay last week and i am going to pick it up tuesday or wednesday for $2500.

The original owner had swapped in a B21FT and M46 back in 1982. The car has some other work done as well. I plan on putting a flathood, ecode headlights, intercooler-currently not intercooled, suspension and other engine mods. I also want to remove the vinyl top and repair some rust it has and get a new paint job. Color ideas are to have either all blue or two tone with black on top.

I cant wait to get working on it.

Interesting dash setup with the gauges like that.

Congratulations on catching the volvo bug. It's a sweet trip (pun absolutely intended).

WHOA!!!
+1 on the dash!

Can you get us a better photo of the three gauges in the center console? I've never seen that before.

Welcome to TB!

I have a 78 262c as well. I've been working on and off on it, and I'm swinging back to working on it again. I like how yours already has the 'skinny' bumpers on it - I've got the front one, but not the rear one yet. Me like! The flat hood makes all the difference in the world, but instead of e-codes I went with the 7" rounds. After I pass inspection I'm putting a pair of Cibie Cat-Eyes I got off a Porche. I was lucky in that there was no rust under the vinyl roof - Arizona car ftw. I love the back panel - I'm planning on doing that as well when I repaint it. I'm going to put black on top down to the tops of the doors and silver on the bottom, separated by a red pinstripe. As for the interior I'm putting BMW sport seats, Momo steering wheel, as well as a R-Sport guage set. I've lowered it and put Tethys on it and it has a B230FT now. If you're interested, take a look at some of the work I've done on it (http://www.mynexus.us/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=19).

Here's a better picture from the auction

Appears they just removed the vent on the right and the clock, and slid the 3 gauges in along with the bezel

Should be fun to give Jason a hand with this one - thankfully he's good with wrenching on cars [works at a Yota dealer and went to UTI around the same time I did, aside from I've been friends with him since early grade school, known him for about 15 years] so I can keep myself busy with my own stuff and give him ideas on what to do with the car.

Yeah but its got that extra piece above the gagues and vent that curves around.
This looks like it was cut from somewhere else to fill in a gap, then glued in.

Ahhh I see now.

More than likly was custom. There are a lot of random little custom pieces on the interior for the stereo so I would'nt be surprised if they made a custom piece to make the gauge install clean too.

I actually test drove this car well over a year ago and put a heads up for it on here.

Since that time, the guy selling it handed it down to his son. He took it into my friend's repair shop, where the dummies diagnosed a smoking issue as a bad turbo. They went thru 3 turbos and did a ton of other stuff on it, and it still smoked and sat at the shop for a while until I stopped by one day getting parts and suggested they change out the PCV stuff

The guy's son moved to Germany or something and sold the car to the guy Smith is buying it from, who has added some more stuff to it [780 wheels, exhaust tip, slimmer bumpers are the things I took note of]

That thing looks pretty awesome. I especially like the black section on the rear of the car.

Good purchase!

That is a sweet car man. The black tail light panel, the gauge cluster, the switches, the wheels - totally awesome and retro. The later-style bumpers look good too. It would look great lowered with some window tint too.

I saw that on ebay and wondered if a turbobricker would end up with it...its a nice looking car, with a few tastefully done subtle mods, I like it alot!

Reminds me sorta of John Harris's bertone

On mine it has the body silver paint without the clear coat. The adhesive left a fuzzy green undercoat that I'll have to remove with scrubbing pads and solvent.

Maybe you should've left it on?

No way I was leaving that crappy vinyl roof on. It was splitting and even if I wanted to keep that ghetto crap it would have to be redone. Perhaps I should have been a little clearer - there is very little fuzz. It's pretty clean actually. And it's staying off. There's a reason the later Bertone's didn't come with the vinyl.

Yep. Cost cutting. Volvo cheaped out.

Very nice. Looks like a solid car, should make a fun project. Those wheels look great on that car. Lose the vinyl top.

I like your idea for a 2-tone paint job.

Welcome to the board and good luck with the new car.

Lose the vinyl top.

Only if you re-install it on the very first Alfa Romeo you find.

easy than the rot in my panel on my 262:-
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h140/sparksmark/262c/3.jpg

I've bought a 244 to cut the panel out off to repair it - you'd need to take the screen out to do a good repair.

you will also need to remove the vinyl roof, cause there will be more rust under there too. Trust me.

To do it right you're going to have to strip the vinyl off. (Sorry to those of you living in the 70's) Strip all the mouldings off. C a r e f u l l y remove the uber-rare windshield and trim. Get another parts car and mark out all the sheet metal that has to be replaced. Tack weld in supports in the winshield area and in the door openings so that it doesn't distort the roof while you're cutting/welding the 'new' metal. Cut the rot out and carefully measure and cut the parts out of the parts car and weld in to 262. Expect to do alot of trimming as the roof lines are different.

Can i use another 200 or does it have to be a 262??

Because of the angle of the A-Pillar I think it has to be a 262 man.

We can talk to Sacramento Volvo Saab about cutting one up if we can't find a junkyard that will let us do it.

Th think for the patch a regular 240 can be used. It will have to be slightly modified but that's not too hard.
