And so it begins the start of my new project car..

this simple little 242 is going to get worked over in a severe kind of way..
start with the power plant...

The car will get lots of suspention upgrades, better brakes, ford 8.8 rearend, 2JZ-GE+t engine, spec twin disk clutch, R154 transmission, T4 72mm turbo p-trim .96a/r divided turbine housing. We will go the usual heebed way and stick with MSnS running 3 sets of coil packs.

700whp is the goal... now just got to get started and need some more cash flow...

Would you???
dont get me wrong my volvo has taken way more punishment and abuse than any other engine i have ever worked on but the reality of it is no volvo engine avaliable to me will make even close to what this 2JZ will make power wise for the price.. Its simple if volvo had an engine that could make 900whp on the stock bottom end and had a trans that could hold 700whp all day long I would stick with the volvo mill but there isant so thats where i am...

the current trend amongst the local mustang owners is "Built Ford tuff with Chevy Stuff"

friggin sweet man what turbo kit did you go with.. V160 is super sweet but definatly out of my price range.. "for now"

Well V160 is out of my price range right now too  hopefully by next spring I can save enough for the conversion. My auto trans just cannot shift with this power even after modified valve body.

I've read the R154 can hold quite a bit of power, it's just finding clutches and such that are up to the task. Now, this might be more of a problem with my heavier lexus.. it might do just dandy in a 240 :-D

My cars NA-T conversion was done with Boost Logics stage 2 kit. It is a beautiful kit with every component looking quality... but with a high price to go with it. I didn't spend the buck on it myself, I bought the car as a sort of unfinished product, the previous owner had purchased the kit. My original plan was to buy an all original lexus and +T it myself, but I ended up with this car for a very reasonable price (sold my 98 C70 and paid a little bit more to get this).
http://www.pbase.com/g_photos/image/82454009.jpg
I would of taken me at least a year or two to save money and turbo a stock lexus, so this way it gave me a head start.. but I still have alot of work to do.

The next motor to go into my 242 will probably be a 2jz as well. Although I might start with a JDM GTE motor (since they seem pretty cheap). My beef with the GE motors is the poor sparkplug access with the intake on.. and that intakes and headers off the GTE don't fit.

Is there any reason you went with a GE? I guess the nice thing about them is there's tons around for DIRT cheap. I've read a few places the GE intake flows better then the stock GTE intake too... and that the head might actually make better numbers then the GTE.

Anyway.. i'll be keeping track of the progress. I wanted to get started on a 2JZ swap this year really bad.. but too many other things on the plate.

I've read more then a few times that 2JZ-GEs have been ran at 900HP with stock internals. These motors are IMO one of the best motors to build now, so cheap and support big power with only bolts on (and you can leave the block/head/cams stock).

Your car will be scary with anything close to 700wheel in a 240! The lexus with half that power and more weight gives me that same gut drop feeling that you get from a fair ride. I can't wait to see how this turns out for you! Good luck.

As i had said before the orginal plan WAS to put a 2jz in a 242 but considering the condition of that chassis and a perfectly good 95 240sx that was sitting in my garage I decided to go with a diffrent platform.. Believe me when i say it wasent easy comming to this decision "i really wanted a bad ass 242" but it wasent in the cards at the time and thats how stuff goes sometimes.. MS had problems that he couldn't solve, thus aem. I'm going to get some stuff to a person who does electronics, and try and get a board developed that is better suited to toyota stuff, this all stemmed from the inability to filter noise from the factory crank sensor.

Hey guys sorry for not updating this but its a nissan/toyota in a volvo forum i am sure it wont be very well received.. Thanks to Kenny for keeping this thread alive and every thing he posted was fairly correct.. The car did run sorta on megasquirt and buying the AEM was the last thing i wanted to do but after soo much time it seems like the right way to go..

yea i will have about 2600 bucks in the aem after its all said and done.. the best the car has run sofar on the megasquirt was a best et of 12.2 and the best mph was 118.. Hopefully i will get to dick with the AEM some more this week but other more pressing things are keeping me from this project...

The goal for this car is to be a fairly quick 1/4 mile car "hopefully 9.50's at 145-155mph's" and swap out the rear tires and shocks and go run a road course as well.. In the end its just money...

I did have problems with the Corolla I did and the Toyota CAS as well. It would have rpm glitches fairly randomly but not that often. In the end the guy wasn't paying me anymore, wasn't a close enough friend, and the friggin car was cursed. Blew the transmission on the first test drive! So I walked away...

I believe he ran out of exhaust. I forgot to pester him for hard numbers, 590ish?

apparently the 3inch on the 2jz-ftw is not big enough. It went from 480 to 570 with 4psi, and from there it picked up 20whp with another 4 psi. So its choking on something and he thinks its the exhaust. We'll know more about it in the coming week or two, for now its going back on the trailer and will be heading down to baton rouge for IFO this sunday. (no, I will not be going with). The 11.0 at 130 was at the 480whp tune, so it should comfortably be a mid 10 second car now.

its alot to get used to.. there are more adjustments for crap you will never use so as far as options go its great.. it takes a min to get the hang of it and i dont really like the data logging software that much but its still a pretty stout system and in the world of higher end engine management systems its definatly one of the more cost effective..

run 21 was done in 4th gear, run 22 was done in 3rd with no cool down. both of those runs were at 25psi.

Big difference in spool with that extra load eh?

Amazing numbers.

I think I'm done with the redblock.

Is Sam even using the GTE block? Is all this done on the 2JZGE engine?

BTW... and next time, take a video of the dyno... because I'll take anything.. anything.

Well done guys.

2jz-GE. I wasn't there, he was supposed to call me when he started tuning with race gas, but he didn't. Probably wouldn't have mattered since I'd already started pulling the engine out of the other evo.

if it was a volvo..mabe. the jz engines are not hard to fit in a 240 chassi, probbaly cake to put one in a 740 too....all you need is the rear sump oil pan and you are set. thats some good numbers tho! should be a hand full down the track. has donnie turned green yet?

Full suspension, as opposed to partial suspension.

as opposed to the joke that comes on your average stock volvo.

simplicyt....not everyone is going for a beastly car. just trying to make it fun! some people like to see how far from the norm they can take things. hell look at all the dough kenny has dummped into his 16V, im sure that he could have built a nasty 1 or 2 J but thats not the point sometimes. if no one ever tryed to hop up a redblock we would still be sitting around dreaming of 13s and getting no whare. eh, im not gonna ramble about this ****

As you should'nt ramble on. The thing is that different people like different ****. I for one am not a Volvo guy per say but I own two of them. I have lurked here for years reading how to get this and that out of your red block and saw how guy's were working on there **** more than they were driving it, now theres something wrong with that picture. I am a Toyota guy at heart specifically a I6(Supra) guy and have been since the late 80's and I know them pretty much inside and out. Toyota built a bullet proof engine when they created the JZ series motors and the world can attest to that. I have a 245 that I put a 1JZ in and I love it and I have another 245 that I am going to be putting a 1UZ the new 2JZ motor in as I love toyota engines not to say that I don't like Volvo engines. When doing projects it's not a matter of what is best or why do this or that, but more of do what you know, can afford to do or simply what the Fu<* you want to do with your car.

Just my .02 worth.

Hey Sam damn fine job you're doing with that hybryd, are you gonna get a tax break for that? LOL

Nah, jz's aren't that cheap to do up, at least over here, everything costs a lot to buy, as it's all off the shelf and they set the price for it.

Well, sam put it solidly in the 9's today, had to to pull off the final round win against another nissan.. an rb25 swapped 280z with a th350 and healthy amount of nitrous. hands down the best final round race I've seen at import face off.

no, he's got the same slow-shifting clutch I do in the evo.. he's getting transmission-limited (aside from holding capacity, I think we were all surprised that the 154 didn't scatter itself)

I am glad the car held together but honestly i was hoping for more.. there are still some bugs to work out and the car still has alot left.. Still a good time at the track and went home with a trophy and some cash..
