Saw that a few people want to do a Volvo caravan... Show isn't for a couple more months, but does anyone wanna get one planned? ie. couple locations on the way down to meet up and join the band wagon to the show? Theres a few from sac, Santa cruz, ripon/modesto/stockton area...

just mapquested it and from all starting locations to SB... and they all put you onto 101... So for the sac/modeto/ northbay people... meet in the south bay somewhere. Then pick up the santa cruz people in watsonville, since 101 goes thru both areas. And just take 101 strait thru to SB. 101 goes directly into SB and close to where we need to be!

ok, from experiance, and i will have my padre chime in (way more experiance than me) but driving 99 south down till you hit the 5, then following that into LA is the fastest route. ive drivin it about 20 or so times since ive had my lisence, and have been in a car going that way MANY more than that.

I dunno about you guy's... but Im thinkin of leaving a day b4 so I dont have to leave at 3am to get there by 10. So I figure we get a hotel room or 2 for the night prior, maybe night after aswell, split up amungst us. it should be fairly cheap! who's in?! Please tell me asap! So I could get the hotel and figure out details... I was told to reserve a hotel pretty soon(within acouple weeks), as they fill up fast for this event!

I might tow (because I can :-P) and plan on going straight down 5 (well.. 99 to 4 to 5). I hate 101, plus its WAY out of my way.

Doesn't matter to me, Im heading down wensday morning. You guys should consider that and make a damn vacation out of it :wink:

sweet! 6 people so far... rooms im lookin at are about $120 a night... $20 each person.

If more people get in, i'll probably get a bigger room, or second ajoining room. But while staying around that $20 per person rate.

So far the plan was to stay there one night... friday night. But I'll be willing to make a weekend of it if a lot of people are down. Maybe hit up some UCSB party's saturday night :wink: or whatever...

my GF and I are gona go on Fri too. I'm Bay area, so i'll meet the crew anywhere around. I think our local groups should meet locally, then we can all meet osmeplace on the 5 or where ever. I think we should meet near SF, then again in SC.

Get a hold of a FRS radio so we can all chat on the road, better than cells for carivans.

Err, I probably wouldn't back track since I'm going to be in Hayward, so that's why I'm saying fremont or san mateo. But San Jose is fine with me.

My planned route was from Sac/Davis(about Noon to 1pm)... down 80 to 680 thru the east bay (to avoid 880 traffic and bridge traffic) and if people from the modesto area want in, they could just come in on 580 and meet in (I think its Dublin?)... onto 880 via Mission BLVD in Fremont... Then to San Jose... Over the hill on 17 to SC... then hwy 1 to 101... then 101 all the way south to Santa Barbara.

I figure that way will be a way more enjoyable drive then the straight boring route of hwy 5.

Lets get a list of names together for the caravan... So when we finally go down, we know that we're not leaving w/o anyone... and figure out meet locations...

My rough planned route is from Int. 80, down to 680 South thru the east bay turning into 280 in the south bay. Then 280 to 880/17 South in San Jose. Going over to Scotts Valley on 17... Hwy 1 in Santa Cruz... then to 101 all the way south to Santa Barbara.

Ok, here's what you need to do... Tell me which location you'll be at and give me a cell phone if you have it, so we could reach you if we're delayed or vise versa. Remember, we are leaving Friday afternoon, so traffic will be hectic, so the times I gave are estimated. If you tell me that your going, we will TRY not leave you behind if you guarentee that your going to be there around that time. Planned Route:
Starting in EG, 99 South...
To 4 West in Stockton to get to I5 South.
Then in Tracy area, catch 205 East to 580 East at which point we'll stop at the Tracy Meet location.
From 580, we'll merge to 680 South in Dublin.
Take 680 to Fremont at which point we'll make our second stop at the Fremont Meet-up location.
Then continue on 680/280 south thru San Jose.
In San Jose, we'll merge from 280 to 17 South.
When we arrive to Scotts Valley, we'll meet up at the Santa Cruz Meet-up Location.
Back onto 17, we'll merge onto Hwy 1 South in Santa Cruz.
From Hwy 1, we'll cut across to Hwy 101 in Watsonville (Noah/Ryan, help me w/ that part, cuz im unfamiliar w/ the best way to do that... hwy 183 aka Castroville Rd? or 156?).
Then Hwy 101 all the way south to Santa Barbara... making a QUICK stop at SLO for Pat's sister if need be.
Its roughly 4 hours from Santa Cruz to Santa Barbara.

NO RACING! NO WEAVING!!! We're going to keep this caravan fairly tame... Don't want anything bad to happen to anyone nor tickets. Keeping the speed at about 70mph... 80mph max!
