View Full Version : Auto Tranny Dipstick solution

Pulling the auto tranny dipstick is a good way to get dirty.
One solution is to break off the clip that holds the top of the stick in place.
I don't like breaking things - besides it might leak fluid which would be bad.

This cord lets you release the clip without getting dirty.
I used a bit of old window screening retainer cord but use whatever you have handy.

This goes on the spring clip at top of dipstick tube:

It ain't rocket science, but I should have done this years ago.

my clips all came broken.

never had a tube move or leak.

not a bad idea though.

just give it a good yank.. you dont need to use the clip

Well this is a case of solving the problem, not the cause. Fix the leaks and keep your engine bay clean instead so you dont get dirty simply pulling a dipstick.
