whoa - pucker city. When I read "excitement" and saw all the fast cars blowing past you near the end, I figured, uh-oh, boy's gonna get the red mist and eat it. (that's what happened to me in my Z vs an AMG something with slicks, hahah, no).

Then I saw the car (viper?) do its thing, and thought you were gonna get stuffed.

Fun times!

//edit - sounds like you're lifting/spinning the inside rear tire? And you need bigger sways, I was getting seasick ;-)

Noah, you shifting at 3700?
That huge-ass turbo ever spool?
EVER?

Why weren't you sliding thru the turns sideways style?

Good job being calm when the numb nuts in the VW in disguise spun.

or just some real springs lol. EST springs are not the greatest for track driving.

i think im actually lifting my front left at times. i donno if the locker isnt doing its job or if its not locking at that speed or what but the back is def 1 tire firing out of some turns

lol it was actually a Viper! well john, the real issue isnt the turbos size, yet anyways. the wastegate is wide open at 8psi thus i hit 8psi and all residual boost (up to 14psi, so 6psi) is "creep". it makes for one hell of a laggy feel, but really linear power - kinda fun - sorta. So that said ill see how it behaves on a bigger wastegate or once i raise the boost via WG spring to make it STAY CLOSED till ~~15psi so i can actually use all the air in my manifold TO spool it.

and thanks, it was a bit of a tricky situation as i was closing on him hard through the turn but that turn really un-weights the car due to a slight rise before turn in so even the slightest touch of the brakes would sent me right in after him.

Nice, looks like a blast. Silly viper, trying to keep up with a 911(?) in the turns...

SEEE!!!!!
If you had a nice turbo, and YOU know what I mean, a single phone call and i could say "Dooooooood, all you need is this Garrettxxxxxx-31 acuator with the 100 lb/in spring"

But NOOOOOOOOoooooooooOOOOOOO, you had to have some monster thing......

And Vipewr, wiper VW protch, who cares all junk.

And really, good job. The "chop throttle and rip the seat cover off with "the pucker" has fawked more guys than not.

But why weren't you sliding the corners??

You back for Thanksgiving????
Call and lets deffo zoom out to look at the abandoned 96!!!

we had actually kinda pushed for a little session of "drifting" and there was a pretty solid "no". yup, im back for next week...we can go scout the ol' 96

PS and i spent tooo much $$ on my tires to go sliding a lot with em :(

Damn that looks like a blast.

How much does it cost for track days and what kind of things do you have to do to the car to get it on a road course like that?

Ooooh really?

He imagione he does, but he's also an honest boy and said to me "I just pulled some number out of my ass".

Now when he comes over I'll show his some BHP and torque curves from some guy down in your end of the woods working on Saabs making TONS more ft/lbs a couple of thousand RPM sooner and more BHP sooner, and ask him which car he thinks would be quicker, cause that is what he said to me he really wants.

I want it too, because my next project is a bigger turbo.

now that MSnS is out of the way.

Track days range from $200-300/day, generally. Thunderhill is a nice track to get started on - tricky enough to be fun, but huge runoffs to keep you safe when/if you go off.

Depending on the car's power levels, you may not need to do anything, other than make sure your car is in good shape. Convertibles need rollbars.

Upgrades to brakes are nice, just some good pads (Hawk HPS, HP+, and up) and fluid (ATE blue/200). Be sure your cooling system is up to par.

The expense comes from getting hooked... then you start chewing up tires and brakes, upgrading suspension, tires, brakes, engine, safety, going faster, chewing up parts sooner, using less streetable parts, going even faster etc.

:oogle:I'm going to Sears Pt on Monday, spent a weekend last month at Reno-Fernley, and ran three days at Thunderhill earlier in the year. With gas, hotels, tires, brake pads, upgrades, etc for two cars (well, one and a half, since I don't run the Z all that much), I'm still getting close to $5K/yr. My wife's another $2K or so on top of that. Not cheap, but way cheaper than real racing, and better than getting dead on the street.

Sears pt. doesn't have anything on the schedule for next monday. What do they call it when they open it up to the public? All I saw were the driving schools and cart racing. Sorry for the threadjack.

For the op, what kind of tires were you running in the video?

Humph, that's interesting. From what I hear, Sears Pt had an event scheduled for that day that came apart. I guess they put the word to these guys (http://www.trackmasters-racing.com/), who sent an email to someone who sent an email to someone who sent an email to me. All I know is I'm gonna be there... somebody best open the gate. :-D

just a tip. keep your hands on the wheel longer. no need to rub the knob until you're ready to shift. helps you concentrate a bit more.

springs will help. do some searchin about using 2.5" springs with camber plates up front, no need for coilovers. start with something in the 8" range, 300lbs or 350. look into kaplhenke rear adjusters and then you can run 5" rear springs at any rate and length you want also.

you and ken both need better boost control! omg, your cars would be so much faster

if its a stock g80 locker, it will *not* lock up above ~20mph. You *have* to cut the counter weight off for that.

Heck yeah, my car is much funner with good boost control. But that dang saab valve literally exploded. The bigger spring in the audi gate may be the hot, reliable ticket. Sadly both of us are suffering from the pile of free Audi wastegates that were polluting my garage. So much for trying to save a buck.

And my car does the same thing with the inside tire spin exiting the corners. Every time, on those flatter exits. I think I am going to find a stock rear bar. That big IPD rear is a bit much I think. And some good spring tuning would help too. Coilovers, or whatever. But you gotta get some negative camber in the front to help plant the front tires flatter on the ground and not roll over. Have you re-drilled your camber plates like I did yet?

t04e spools plenty early enough on my kitcar . mind you its a proper garret .

Oh, and we gotta get these two red volvos on the track together soon. That will be some Epic Turbobricks Video.

Tim the Porschev maniac and I are tentatively planning to hit Pueblo on the weekend of December 1st. If the weather is good of course. You should come.

Pueblo track time is kinda old-school. The guy opens the gate for you, pay him $65 for a half day and put your helmet on. Just don't catch your car on fire or anything. There isn't any safety safari.
