the Gold center BBS wheels go alot better with the tan.

The BBS look right on the car. The Voxx's look too modern for the old school look of a 240 IMO.
BBS, lower more, fix your rear bumper and it will look great. Plus you can sell the Voxx and put the money into the car in other areas.

Voxx.

The Voxx look better, IMO. In principle I usually would always choose BBS over most other wheels, but I don't feel like they match your car. The big open five spoke design with a bigger flatter lip looks better to me.

BBS but with the stainless centercaps, not the black ones. To match all your chrome/ stainless trim. I think they'd look great, but then I've never liked those Voxx very much.

Dauntless the centercaps for those BBS RAs do not cover the lugs (unlike the RSs), just the center hole. See pics of them on Pat Brickster151's silver 242T. Not sure if you knew that or if we just have really different taste. I'm personally not a fan of seeing the hub through the center of the wheel, but I do like the lugnuts to be exposed.

And also more rare. So if you happen to destroy one, you'll be left with 3 BBS wheels.

exactly what I was reffering to...I have full set of these with black centers instead of gold, but they still look much better with the caps than without.

Very true.

That makes two of us...I have a set of four, one got damaged. I have been meaning to get the one fixed but haven't in like 2 years, so I would take a good one if you damaged one...or if anyone else has a partial set they want to break up...shoot me a pm with a price!

I honestly like both, but crazychopstick is correct about if you damage one you will have a tough time trying to locate another. I say keep the BBS for show and shine them up a bit, and use the Voxx's for daily drivers.

I agree, and not just because I rock the Voxxs. The BBS are "appropriate" because they look old and tired, just like a 240. The Voxx rims update the styling and give the 240 a more modern look which, imo, is better. If you are going for a more stock look then I guess go for the BBS. But if stock is what you're after, why upgrade the wheels at all? Why not just rock steelies with hubcaps? Go for the Voxx, they make your car look cooler.

I'd buy a spare, but i won't sell one of mine. I'd like to find a spare for my RS wheels [16x8] and the 16" gold mesh ones I have....

Once again, just because, BBS>Voxx.

I like the Voxx'
It fascinates me how much the US members like small old-school mesh wheels.

Personally I'm a simple 5 spoke wheel fan.

Wheels are all speculative though - its all about personal taste. Go with whichever you prefer and enjoy!

I am all about the 5 spoke design, but BBS mesh looks the part on a Volvo, very european.

Except that no European would be seen dead with them nowadays unless they were piss poor or blind. Seriously I haven't seen them used in years, even all the Beemers that used to sport them have had them removed or have died of shame.

hmm thats interesting... so a period correct wheel that was the best in its day, is now an embarrassment? ...Allthough judging from Vallakra pics and many other European meets I can see why...the volvos in europe (for the most part) are way more riced out than in the US(though some are hands down better than anything built over here.

I see BBS wheels as a nice looking, aftermarket, period correct wheel option that are strongly built and sexy as hell when refinished, they have to be at least 16" though for me...if I can find some staggard 17" BBS RS in 5x108 they will be the next, and last set of wheels I buy for my car. Throwing some modern Voxx or other cheap aftermarket wheels on it...simply does not fit classic styling of a 240. Not saying they look bad really, just cheap and too modern, I just prefer period correct... OR newer wheels work nicely if the whole car is made to look newer(updated paint/suspension/lights etc as well. I am very picky about wheels though...

Everyone there just decides that they want to show their wealth in the wrong way with extravagent purchases of hatchbacks and over-priced BMW/MBZ.

Go look at a 635CSi on gold center BBS RS wheels, an early M5, or an old MBZ 190E - tell me something else works well?

Fivehundred
12-22-2007, 10:05 PM
To be honest I don't think they'd be viewed here as even period correct on an 80's Volvo. The BBS lattice work wheels were archetypal BMW wheels back in the 80's and little else used them, except maybe the odd Golf and Audi wanting to look bigger and butcher. They were also found on some Jaguars.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to strart a pissing contest, I just find it amusing that something that is considered passe here is sought after as cool on the other side of the pond.

BBS suit the car way more. Voxx have an ugly curve to the spokes that does not go well with the squareness of a Volvo. That and they look like they are made from plastic (cheap looking in other words).
