I have a buddy who has a MS1 with a 2.2 board for sale. It was supposed to be for his civic. He never used it. It isn't wired for PnP. I think it is safe to assume I can still use it on my volvo? Never built a MS ecu so I am asking if each board is similar if not wired for PnP. Sorry in advance guys for a noob question but I appreciate the help:)

If its a 2.2 board you'll need some extra circuitry to work with your 1990 flywheel sensor

What are the odds that somebody is going to enlighten me on that^^^^

LH 2.4 doesn't use a hall sensor. You need extra circuitry to help the MS talk to its VR sensor.

Read everything on there twice. Then read it again. Then you are qualified to ask questions.

:doh:Man if you only knew how many times I have read those two exact sites. Along with many others. I just don't grasp some crap. I know there is so much to learn but I need to actually try it before it really starts to stick.

VR sensor =/= Hall sensor
VR sensor != Hall sensor
Hall sensor + MS 2.2 = OK
VR sensor + MS 2.2 != OK

for me, i had to start looking at and touching things (and breaking things) before the whole MS thing clicked.

VR sensor =/= Hall sensor
VR sensor != Hall sensor
Hall sensor + MS 2.2 = OK
VR sensor + MS 2.2 != OK
too add to that, the quickest solution is just to get a distributor from an older 740 and wire it in.

Dude. If you can't grasp these concepts you really haven't read as much as you should have.

this is how it happens: I read a section over and over till I know it. Then move onto another section and read that till I know it. at the fnishing point of the second part I have lost all knowledge of the first section I had read and thought I knew. It happens this way because I am not actually seeing these things happen infront of me. I just gotta do tha dayum thang;). I am buying this box and a kit. If the box that's used won't work I will make the kit I bought.

alright ill take a shot at this.
You LH 2.4 car uses a flywheel-mounted VR sensor. This VR sensor's signal (some sort of sine wave i think) cannot be translated by megasquirt's 2.2 board.
LH 2.2 cars have a hall-sensor mounted in the distributor, which I think is a square wave. Either way, megasquirt, with a pull-up resistor, can read this signal without a problem.
In order to have the VR sensor from you LH 2.4 car work, you need to build a "VR conditioning circuit" which helps megasquirt translate the signal to something useful.
I will also point out that the 3.0 board has this feature built in :nod:

that was 100% by far the best explanation I have ever gotten to a question regarding ms on here. That is crystal clear.
Is it easier to get an old dizzy(2.2 had head mount right?) or build a VR conditioning circuit? Don't have to tell me the steps just what is donemost often by tbrickers?

easier to go 2.2 dizzy, or go edis will work w/2.2ms, or just add the circut, all options are easy, edis is pimp but no spark retard rev limiter or flat shift, but other than that, edis is easypimp

I want all the listed things I couldn't hav with edis. Could be pushing my luk here but why wouldn't I get all that good junk with edis?
MrBill

it just doesnt work yet
I'd just put a 2.2 distributor in there, easy++ Keep the VR sensor in there though in case you get a boner for coil-on-plug you'll need it.

Alot of people enjoy being these elitists with megasquirt. I was in your shoes a year or so ago, and with help of people of tbricks my car runs

Because EDIS runs the ignition largely independently of Megasquirt. It jsut gets some signal from MS rearding how much to advance the spark. So MS can't do anything to the ignition other than advance and retard it, can't cut it off for things like launch control/flat shift/etc.

but shouldnt it be able to do flatshift/launch control via massive spark retard?

why wouldn't you be able to retard spark? for the rev limiter ou could do fuel cut? either way I will un the old dizzy. COP is something I will need later but I need to get MS down first.

fuel cut would be your hard rev limiter
spark retard is the "soft" rev limit
If you have a catalytic convertor you don't want to be cutting spark like that anyway

I know what flatshifting is(no lift shift) but what r u telling ms to do during this event?

wait I had a thought. Never done this before but, some anti lag is done through savage timing retard and richen things up. to hold the rpm from launch I figured you would set the timing and fuel so the moto would have load but not enough power to rev past rpm X. OR do these guys have a soft rev limiter set at rpm X AND retard timing and richen things up?
does everyone get the question?
benflynn

anti lag cuts one spark and retards the next i think, i don't remember why it dose not work, it has something to do w/thr edis ign mod, but you could put a vr circut in and drive 2 coils w/onboard mods, of add 2 vb kits and drive the coils directly, add a modded dizzy input and you can do cop, 740atl has done articles on most of this w/the 2.2 board
