Can someone out there point me to a site or an old post of how to do a 7 inch round headlight conversion. I have 82 242 with a flat hood. I like the look of the rounds better. The wiring is what I need to know most.

I installed the wiring harness for the rounds also. . . It plugs right up. You should be able to get the harness at the same time you get the brackets and the lights. That way you dont have a bunch of extra wires hangin off for the dual light setup also. . .

has anybody ever tried the dual round with a flat hood. I found a 79 or 80 wagon with dual round lights,I just can't picture what it would look like with a flat hood and grill. maybe one of you photoshop doctors can put one together for me.

dual rounds use a regular grill and regular hood, dont think you can fit a flathood on that.

what grill do they use with the dual square light flat hood? shouldn't that be the same grill for the dual round?

the dual rounds use the regular grill used with the squares.

The dual-round headlights are, AFAIK, the same size as the rectangular Euro headlights from 1980 & before. The thing I can't remember is whether those rectangular headlights are the same size as the quad-square cluster ... I'm about 60% certain they are, and if so then you could just use the same grille you use for a quad-square flathood.

*edit*
Here's the grille you need, these came on Euro '79-'80 GL's & some DL's:

Here's Dave Barton's "quad square" flathood; pretty sure it's the same grille (I believe I actually pulled this one, from an Aussie GL :)):

I guess I am confused. When I said dual rounds,I guess I should have said quad round. I usually refer to them as single round or square. or dual round or square. I would like to do quad round or two round light per side.

Yes! It will work, the frames for the quad round are the same size as the quad square. And I've seen pics in Rolling of a guy who did this, I've considered it myself.

On a side note, I've mentioned this before, but 86+ headlights make great pseudo-euros, and you use hollowed-out quad round headlight doors for the frames.

Here you go. It isn't large but it is a flathood with quad rounds.

No, s'cool ... I was just saying that the quad-rounds fill the same-size hole as the twin-rectangulars & the quad-squares; they all use the same grille. The little aluminium/chrome trims on the grille even line up with the ridges in the quad-round headlight surrounds, if you leave them in place. :)

it all just bolts up and plugs in. no custom work at all. just change the parts. theres only one way for it all to go together so dont worry bout it going together wrong.i did it on my car (242) it took about 35 minutes and that included changing the hood. have fun

The quad round and quad rectangular occupy the same space and mount the same.

I think the round lights look the best or the Euro lights. For my flathood I stuck with the two round 7" lights. One other thing people might want to
consider is that the two round 7" headlights are the lightest lights. There is even a small opening that lets a bit more cooling air in the engine
compartment. Not much but every bit helps. Best regards,

I find the round lights to be a better light quality, in intensity and dispertion. If you get some H4's, they will beat out the 4" squares no doubt. I can say from experiance that the 7" rounds are better then the 4" square in seal beamed format. I have never driven with H4's in the 4" square format. But my round 7" H4's with Piaa bulbs were just amazing. I found myself being able to drive much faster at night and not having to be as worried about moose because I could see further and see more of the side of the road then before. (I had to throw in the moose, since your canadian, though I don't think you'll run into any in Toronto ;))

The rounds should fit a standard H4 globe; meaning the rounds should be able to be updated with the latest high-output globes (eg. Narva Plus 50's). I don't think the coconut would lose out. Oh, on the note of H4's versus the quad-square lights, a guy I was talking to a while ago replaced the quad-squares with 80-series Landcruiser headlights; they're H4's in Australia, surely they're H4's elsewhere? So if your quad-squares are a sealed-beam unit, maybe you can instead get lights from a Landcruiser wrecker?

That's sure as hell what it looks like. Although that would technically make it a 247. :boink:
Wasn't there somebody on here contemplating making one of those?

The quad round setup will work with the stock grill, but to use the larger dual 7" round lights you will need the grill from the car they were in. It is about ~2" longer on each side, so roughly ~4" difference in total length.

It has been a while since I have seen one, so don't quote me on the difference in length, just that they are different and you need the grill from the car with dual rounds...

Both the wagon and the other 240 you cannot see entirely are Limo's. If you look at the roof line you can see that the roof of the 240 behind the orange one is longer... Also the flags on the fenders kind of give it away...
