Done a few good trails and a good bit of play in the sand. Haven't buried it in the mud yet but it's going on the to-do list.

i would do that, but my mom keeps me away for the XC for that reason... ah well, it will have its day.

that car was a load of fun, until the tranny went bad, and i didnt see myself dishing out almost $8k to get all the serious issues sorted

as much as it looks like it could, that car is NOT made to do that. i see them come in where people have tried to do something like that and all kinds of things are broken..

if you want to go off-roading do it in a proper 4x4... one of those old unimog looking volvo things would count but not an xc70.

Look at those tires... I think my tires are more worthy offroading...

That photo is a cropped version on the original photo, which shows a highway with broken guardrail on the left side.

I did stuff like that in my 245ti, speed was the key, as well as those studded goodyear mud tires I had on them, god those were awesome. Now I do stuff like that in my Bronco.

hmmm our XC70 D5 goes really well in snow.
in mud and stuff we didn't try that hard, but it gets through the mud pretty good. It is nice for powerslides on wet grass.. :-P
remember this is still a car that you can drive on the highway at 100 mph all day long without noticing it (thats how our XC spends most of its time). a real offroad vehicle wont do that (at the same MPG/price/noise level etc)
Its a great car for towing trailers as well. we towed a lot of different cars (760, 940, 240, Amazon) and stuff, enough power, good brakes. Only thing i don't like is the automatic gearbox....

I bet something on it messed up shortly after that picture.

I bet something on it messed up shortly after that picture.

that's a volvo release photo, the car was on a closed course and part of it is photoshopped, they messed up when the chopped the wrong tires on there, all those cars came with pirelli scorpions from the the factory and that is a michelin tread pattern, it was just an advertisement, that car would be fawking stuck in real life.

that pic was from back in '01 before the AOC rear drive, those cars don't even put power to the rear until you have been spinning the front for what seems like seconds. that is if the rear DEM oil press sensor is even working to allow awd since they go bad so often.

the key word used in the above posts is "SNOW" and the AWD volvos do fairly well in the snow as long as it's not too deep.

the terrain in the above picture is JEEP, BRONCO, BLAZER, FJ40, ROVER, or any other REAL 4X4 of your choice territory.

if anyone in socal wants to play in the mud come to my house and you can go in my back yard. Its awesome and we have a full support group of 4x trucks if you get stuck.

You will be finding mud on/in/under the bottom of your car forever.

that time we went mudding i slid into tree and f'ed up the '89+ front end that i just installed, had to put the ugly wagoneer quad lamp setup back on, at least it only killed one of the fogs for which i had an extra... those oem fogs are harder to come upon now. :-P
