a 1996 940 classic
2.3 lpt
M90
160k

all for 300 ($600)

only problems:
tatty bodywork
no A/C
cloth seats
manual rear windows

im going to strip it for parts as it ain't got high enough spec to replace mine and it isn't as tidy, more reliable tho.

the L block will get rebuilt for my 16v, the M90 will go in there too while it's 8v, what i can sell i will, (e-codes anyone?) the rest will go to scrap, granted the wheels have found a new home allready - keep an eye on my other threads, i should pretty much make my money back

enjoy

Didn't know there was a 940 classic, looks like a great deal. Doesn't England using the metric system?

Not to rain on your parade Fordy, but...

1st: There were no "Classic" in 1996. The last batch in 1998 got the "Classic" designation, and for a reason (all the faults were worked out and it had all the goodies).

2nd: No "Classic" came with manual windows, manual climate control and clotch seats.

But it is still a very very very nice car though, and I hate you for getting cars at that low price. Yes, I am jealous because of it.

EDIT:// Oh, and all the Classics came with a turbo gauge (FT engine) or econo-gauge (FK engine).

It would be well worth grabbing the ecu's or at least checking what the numbers are on the icu (chippable)

i thought all that too! it may be a 1997, i ain't got the logbook thru yet. but unless someone has messed around with it, which i doubt, can't argue much with living proof:e-shrug:

That is a classic.

Around that time they were basically doing Estate cars that were vans, hence no goodies whatsoever, just cheap load haulers, strange it has alloys, allthough they could have been optioned or added later.

What Fred is talking about is the Celebration model.

Different markets had different names for cars.

Yeah, the last 3500 940's in the world off the production line were called "Classic" here and came with all the goodies.

I have come to beleive that you use the Classic tag instead of the Polar tag we used for a while (yes, I know you had a Polar tag as well, but that's different).

I thought the Polar tag was used only in Italy??

I'd really be interested in the alternator bracket if you plan to part the car out. I'm talking about the non-a/c bracket that bolts the alternator to the intake side of the motor.

PM me if you have one to sell.

They have a dirty great lump of cast iron. The AC compressor acts as a vibration damper, so the late no AC cars have a very heavy bracket to do the same job. Apparently at one point if people complained hard enough about the engine being unrefined Volvo would hang a complete AC pump there, that wasn't connected to anything!

Nice buy. There's some REAL cheap late 940s about now, wish I had the space to put one and strip it down :please:

i saw one of those while at the TDS center in Gothenburg 6 yrs ago.
there was like a HUGE lot full of olderbricks, very nicely kept.
I got a accessory brochure on the 700/900 in swedish.
it had like every cool RWD volvo wheel in it. (including, polarises, galaxies, etc...)

Pretty much each market had different designations when it comes to special editions. Many people here refer to all 1998 940s (with the clear lights) as "Classic" models, but they certainly weren't all Classics. My Dad's 940 follows the standard 1995+ naming system - it's a 940 LPT CD (although just badged as "Volvo 940 2.3", the same way my S70 2.5 20v CD is just badged "Volvo S70 2.5").

Speaking of the S70, when exactly are you going to remove that from your sig, Martin? I've had it almost a year now

cheers

James
