You see these in Europe and the UK all the time (on their ebay's) but never in this country.

Example of a really old-style one is on ebay right now on the roof of a 240 in Austria -- ebay item # 260210103221

The nice ones were all-aluminum. About 7 feet long to run the entire length of the roof on a 240 wagon.

Were these outlawed in the US, or what's the story?

I'd like to get one assuming their legal here. The real obstacle is the absurd cost of shipping one of these babies from the UK or Europe! People in Australia, UK, and Europe literally give these away, but the shipping is a deal-buster.

The genuine Volvo ones came flat packed, which reduces the volume for shipping considerably.

That's a Volvo Safari accessory rack. They don't show up very often.

Would love to have one of those for the 245, big enough to haul kayak, small sail boat, etc..
Cheap in the UK, but shipping here would be outrageous..

YLD244 --

If you can get a good one, especially the older "safari" style with a retaining wall on all 4 sides, and if you can get it to Melbourne for me, I believe a Melbourne friend of mine can get it to me cheaply, because of his work with the airlines industry.

An example of the safari style can be seen on the German ebay right now, on a 245 in Austria for sale. It's ebay item # 260210103221.

Please let me know!

I bought one of those from a TB'er last Oct (search Moose rack), the all aluminum Volvo one that comes apart. I ended up paying $75 for shipping from the east coast to TX with my UPS account
It's great! You can put a lot of c**p up there!
Keep looking they are out there.
