View Full Version : The Dumbest Mods On TB!

amargill19?

Post your own mod that you think is dumb, or nominate another member's dumb mod.

You can also use examples of mods done to other cars too!

Being in the showroom, pics are required!!

I'll start with mine:

+Noise airbox mod. Very useless mod here, makes a bit of noise when you're on the throttle like an intake would, except it's not very loud.

I'm not quite sure why I haven't cut the front section completely out yet :e-shrug:

Megasquirt? Can I say that?

Kidding, kidding, call off your dogs.

Most of the mods I have half finished are whats dumbest... half a car alarm, half a carpc, half power locks, etc etc.

For finished ones I'd say my walbro 255hp coupled to my 14psi regulated TBI kinda counts... sort of like using a firehose as a drinking fountain.

My worst braking mod was the "Let Mark egg you on to drive twice as far as you like with a squishy pedal until you lose your brakes on the oak street hill' mod.

Most pointless mod? Probably my ghetto "pull off the horns from the grille, lose patience and ziptie them to the airbox snorkel as a temp-turned permanent" mod.

VX3 cam?

I have to claim honors for bringing that cam to prominence. But it did out perform the T cam on the dyno with every car we tested it on. And those tests were back to back and well controlled.

Remember that back in '97 there was little to choose from.

Now, well we have learned a lot.

I have 3 T cams for sale. 5 bucks a piece or 3 for $20.

I'll even show you how to make Volvo-TAK and be able to use 3 cams in an 8v car. One cam for intake, one cam for exhaust and the other cam runs the other cams. Its race proven and makes like 900rwhp easy.

I was in the process of making one of these systems but I didn't get the idea from this website. 2 years ago I ran into somebody with a Hydrogen generator on his '88 toyota pick up with 22RE. He told me the best mileage he got was 57mpg hiway.

Anyway I got a job and lost interest in it completely because you still have to buy gas. I think Biodiesel is far better a choice.

I think he's referring to fact that there's a wing on a FWD car.

What's wrong with a wing on a FWD car? Wings aren't for slow speed traction, they are for high speed downforce. If your car is prone to oversteer at high speeds, a wing on the back could help a lot to reduce the oversteer. There are a lot of FWD road race cars with wings on them.

That being said, it's usually ridiculous to put a wing on a commuter car.

Naw no holest for me. I don't have a b20 or a holset... or the intention to ever get either. I had just gotten my car at the time and was juuuust learning how to work on it. I didnt even drive there in a Volvo. I drove in a mini cooper s that my buddy just bought. but I drove cause he had a hernia and couldnt use the clutch.

I didn't mean to dish any dirt around dude, i was just remembering cause you were a dirty ass lookin dude with a crazy car that was stripped out and you weren't very telling about your education of cars.

That was soooooo long ago! (note: I live in dog years) how did you remember all that?

Although I think the headlights are stupid looking (personal opinion), i've never met the guy. If he has the gusto to rock angry eyes on a 240 then I bet hes a pretty fun guy to hang out with (speculation)

.

Just remember, if you think the car looks stupid, I've done my job. Under estimation was the plan from the start.. :oogle:

and what's wrong with sticky caliper brake dust coated flat black? I don't consider this a mod, unless you call it "lack of cleaning" mod...

I found that cheap hardware in the garage, but was sketch about it... sO I added Amar Style loctightt TM (duct tape wrapped around the exposed threads so the nut loosen and back off)
Also secured the object triangularly (not quite BNE style) with zipties.

Okay, it's a LOUD pa speaker. It's VERY LOUD because I tested it first. It was originally white but I did a hack job of painting it (crappy enamel paint was what was in the gay-raj)
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m280/amargill19/IMGP0703.jpg

My concern was that the speaker was too close to the radiator. It's not even 2" from the front of the rad, so I took it for a shakedown a while ago and the speaker doesn't get too hot. We'll find out for sure tomorrow on the 80+km commute

not neceessarily the dumbest, but my cheapest mod is the hood latch cable. Mine snapped so I bought the cheapest brake cable and housing combination we had from work for fifty cents. But them to length, added a bmx bolt on cable stop for free and hooked the latch to the cable puller. Still works fine.

Is this sarcasm? :wtf:

CoconutColin's 244 is not what you should be aspired to modding your own car to. Volvos would never need mugen looking riced kits, infact, I would prefer a stock version over their cars and it would still be faster than their "riced" civics.

That's a good mod man,

gives the turbine wheel more weight, which gives the spinning wheel more centrifugal force.don't worry, I kid.

hahaha.

I'm pretty good at making that siren blip noise with my mouth through it, I don't use it as often as I used to lol.

I used it a few weeks ago at a drivethru where I had left space between the car ahead because there was the entrance into the place.. Some douche nozzle pulls in right in front and waves like saying, "Thanks!"

It was 6:30am and Im grumpy as ****, I threw my arms up like "WTF?" Buddy still didn't get it. Flick the PA on.

"Cchh... WHAT THE ****.... DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?"

The guy looks around with wide eyes, seemed kind of scared because it just set me off in the morning. Reverses and pulls away behind me
