Nothing really new, aside from painting the boot floor which has been in primer for a few months and removing some of the interior odds and ends to be sent for powdercoating.

But, the weather was good today, so I took it for a wash and cleaned some of the details while parked in the driveway at home, and thought it was an ideal chance to take a couple of pics.

awesome 240.. but i would like to know.. what is the mini scoop used for on the hood?

ashvolvo
02-10-2008, 12:33 AM
The scoop feeds into the top of the airbox.
It has a horizontally mounted panel filter in it.
The scoop and a duct in the front spoiler feed into the box above the filter and airflow is forced through the element and exits through a duct in the bottom of the box.

Looking good Ash! Did you paint the lower door trim black? What with?

Nope. I just soak it with Mothers Back-to-black. If you do it after everytime you wash it, it eventually goes back to a nice dark colour.

Ash, what colour is your car painted? Does it have a paint code, or is it a custom mix?

Hard to tell, but it almost looks like Red #601, which came out in '89, IIRC... Nice looking 244, btw...

Looks like a painted group A spoiler to me. I really don't like them on 86->, looks wrong with the 86-> trunk. Car would have looked even better wihtout the ugly barbecue grill! :)

pre 86 had button release trunks.. i have had one in a 82 244glt and a 83 244glt also 84 244gl.. it opens via a servo type motor that pulls on the manual trunk release.. (i have never messed with 86+ stuff so i dont know if they have electric trunk realease)

:drool:damn that thing is sexy, awesome front spoiler man, was it custom made to fit right onto the front end or did you have to do a ton of work to get it to fit?

cheers

Yes at the moment I am.
Its a B230F with a 530 head, some mild head work, stock sized valves and a H cam. 2.25" exhaust system and extractors. It also has a electric fan, and the airbox we built ourselves.

Ash, what colour is your car painted? Does it have a paint code, or is it a custom mix?

It's signal red #601 standard volvo color. available on '88 onwards cars here.
All paint is orginal except the bonnet and the bootlid.

Right you are, and thank you. :)

What spoiler is that on the rear, howd you make the grille, and whats up with the lower front spoiler

Rear spoiler is a group a replica, just painted to match the body and mounted as far back as it'll go on the bootlid.

The original frame of the grill was used, and a simple mild steel inner frame was made and covered with stainless steel mesh, this was then fastened back into the top and bottom sections of the original inner part of the grille and mounted back in the frame.

The front splitter/lip is simple 2mm thick ABS plastic, it extends 90mm forward of the spoiler.
on the outer ends are aluminium brackets that fasten it to the bumper and also help direct airflow. in the middle to stop it sagging are stainless steel wire stays.
It's really effective on high speed sweepers on track days we do.

what interior parts are you getting power coated? i cant think of anything.

Just trivial stuff. In the dash I have guages mounted above the vents in an aluminium fascia rather than the oem 3 guage plastic panel - this is getting powdercoated satin black.
For the club level motorsport we do, cars must have a fire extinguisher mounted, mine is on an aluminium bracket on the trans tunnel, this is getting done in satin black too.

pre 86 had button release trunks.. i have had one in a 82 244glt and a 83 244glt also 84 244gl.. it opens via a servo type motor that pulls on the manual trunk release.. (i have never messed with 86+ stuff so i dont know if they have electric trunk realease)

This was only in some of our cars. My 240 started as a GL and didnt have it, as it's a 1990 model, it has humped bootlid with the square locked that is integrated into the central locking.
The Group A spoiler looks horrible on the later bootlid, so I swapped to a pre '86 one.

:drool:damn that thing is sexy, awesome front spoiler man, was it custom made to fit right onto the front end or did you have to do a ton of work to get it to fit?

Brandon

Thanks, we made it ourselves, it was really simple, its easily replacable too and the plastic is inexpensive. Occasionally I'll break one on a track day, but they seem to stand up to abuse quite well.

Here's an older photo, but it shows the front spoiler better.

Where would you buy plastic like that? I can't even think of anywhere you could get a piece that large.

Car looks sweet. I like that it's very individualized, but not over done. And damn, I wish I lived is Aus, especially after watching some of those Ignition DVD's and the huge events like powerfest and such. So many cars and opportunities to drive on a track...we don't have anything even close here.

yes, please remove that barbie-q grille.

Also, if you paint black matte behind the euro glasses, it will look much nicer :-)
Why two different racingseats?

No, we could easily make them, but shipping something of that size would be REALLY expensive.

I like the BBQ grille :-P , the original was broken when I bought the car back in 2001.
Back then mesh-grilles werent that common.

I think I like black headlight buckets better too, we have a silver '93 240 wagon and we've painted the headlight buckets black on that car. I painted these red back in late 2001 - taste changes with time I guess.

The seats are both 'Cobra Monaco S' seats. I bought them seperately, when I bought the passenger side seat, I couldnt get red ones anymore. But, I like the black better anyway now so eventually the drivers side will get replaced with a back one, but theres still more to do.

In the older photo I just posted, the spacers are 15mm F and 20mm R.
In the new photos on the first page, the spacers are 25mm F and 32mm R.
