Hey guys,

The GF and I bought a new daily driver yesterday! We needed another car like we needed another hole in our head, but it's going to replace the '01 Honda Accord she's driving right now. So at the moment we're at 5 cars for 2 people. Soon it will be a more manageable 4 cars.

The GOOD:
'96 850 GLT, black, auto. 159k miles.
Runs and drives very solid and smooth.
Interior is just about perfect.

The BAD:
ABS and TRACS warning lights are off and on intermittently
Rear brake lights work intermittently (including the 3rd brake light)
Driver's seat heater doesn't seem to get warm

The UGLY:
Paint badly oxidized on hood and roof (1-Day respray was already planned)
3 minor dings on body

Price: $1,700

...we bought it yesterday, and already put about 480 miles on it! Bought it in central CA, changed the oil, then drove it home to SoCal. I LOVE this car, makes me want to buy an 850 Turbo and get an M46 for it soooo badly!

i love my dad's 850, i used toget compliments from inside people saying "how old is this car?" and it's pretty damn reliable.

They're solid, reliable cars, my dad drives one, but a wagon.

Sounds like the TRACS/ABS module (one unit) is failing, you can either bend over for the dealer ($400-800), or have it rebuilt, there's a link on VS for the guy who does them, it's a lot less, under 200, I think.

If it hasn't had the recall done for the heated seats, get those done so it doesn't catch fire.

Wiring is likely a poor contact somewhere in there, if you're willing to track it down.

That's about it, doesn't seem like a bad price to me, personally.

getting an M46 for one might be hard :-P

nice car, just a bit less then what i paid for mY s70 NA, there was a thread/site somewhere that shows how to pull the ABS modual apart and resolder the bad connections.

edit, found it

I have to say, My 850 is a lovely car to just cruise in. Its a bit thirsty in town but for the price, I cant really argue,

You know, I was wondering just how accurate the fuel gauge is. Is it indeed an 18 gal. tank? Edmunds.com says it's 19.3 US Gal., and 20 city/29 highway MPG.

I had hit above 160+ miles by the time the gauge was at the 12 gal. mark (1/3 of a tank used). I have a feeling the fuel gauge is a little over-ambitious, as this would have meant I could have theoretically driven 480+ miles before running out of gas and stalling! This was 100% freeway at 70-80mph.

Does that sound right?! If so, the fuel mileage is CONSIDERABLY better than the V6 Honda Accord (3.0L VTEC) it's replacing.

im pretty sure its a 19.3 tank i think it says in the owners manual, also if you wanted to swap a manual in it would be the m56 that fits right up

turbo or na?

NA. We were hoping for a Turbo but this interior was spotless and the price was right.

Sounds about right, and more or less lines up with the 26mpg highway rating it was given.

just remember to check the pcv or else you might blow out the RMS, but i guess if you do you could also swap the m56 in there
