just so everyone knows, the 965 has been around for a long time, and has already been a tbricks feature car, and has race-tested parts installed from mainstream corporations.

my 245 is for change and bringing people together.

Hahaha the whole picture comparo and the "Aahhhhh" back and forth feeling went well with the song I'm listening to (Bloc Party - Helicopter)
I would need to see the engine mods for both however to make a true informed decision. I love the 960's but modding them is tougher. The 245 might be stock too.
And I love the emerald green.

So 245... But it's tough.

I really don't know how to vote, I love 245s, but the dark tint is not my deal, and the 965 looks sharp, but the wheels are a little to not sleeper for me, but the bumper cooler does that too.

I'm going to have to go 965, I must be getting old or something.

960.

The tires on the 240 are too tall and it looks like a truck. If lower and the tires slightly lower in profile, I would be much more likely to say the 240 wagon gets the stick.. or bone.. or cake.. or whatever.

245 wins because it looks more classic, that and the exposed intercooler on the 965 just screams you want the retarded kid from American Gothic to drift it in the next F&F movie...

There's 2 things that bother me about the 240. Its the fact that the rear door's windows don't fit square to the roof. And that tail lights/hatch are at a weird angle.

I'd say a 242 or 244 trumps the 960 sedans, but no a wagon.

Trim holes. There are stubs on the trim that go through, but they don't really retain the trim at all, just locate it on the body. Pointless but present.

http://www.pbase.com/towerymt/image/92591634

The lower row of 13 holes is the skinny black trim piece.

And behind the wrap-around grey trim at the back are two large holes (the little holes along the bottom of the quarter panel near the bumper are drilled spot welds)

yeah, well forget it then. dammit I wish I had a paint booth in the garage, we could weld all that crap up and do a sweet candy emerald pearl with like 18 coats of clear!

I'll probably find a way to dye that grey trim black. still debating what to do with the last bastion of chrome on the front and back bumpers (and the grill surround, and the headlight trim.... probably just leave it, it's innocuous)

Pennybridge Pioneer: i like the 245, its stance is PERFECT. enough sidewall for actual driving, and just enough ground clearance for those bad roads. looks like a tough daily. paint the chrome on the grill and headlights, just take them off, sand em prime and paint. i love what you are doing to the car.
POI: what has not been said about your car? obviously awesome, i loved your write up about the paddle shifters. nobody can deny the work put into your car, and if it helps my girl would rather ride in the 960 than the 240. the car is so clean and then POW there is way too much exposed intercooler. i like an understated look, like the rest of your car, and there is this huge IC out front that ruins the stealthy appearance.

I just bought a 96 960 a couple weeks ago, by far the best volvo I have driven to date. Volvo really got it right on that one for making a solid car. It looks awesome, handles well considering how nice it rides and is dead quiet inside. The stereo is awesome, I love the seats and the luxury items. I am absolutely thrilled with the car (other then the door pannel skins on the inside being bunched up).

It's not a fast car.. but faster then a N/A 255 :-P

I am a 240 guy at heart, but for straight up factory awesome, the 960 ftw.

Pictures to come in the future (with the 18" Moda's and tint).

It's a tie for me, becuase on one hand you have to give it to the 960 because the engine bay makes it jump way ahead if nothing else, but honestly, I just can't warm up to the "bumpercooler". I can appreciate it from a functionality standpoint, and if the car were a beater and it was supposed to be a jab at the ricers' FMIC's then sure, but to me it either looks out of place at best or gaudy and bizarre at worst.

The install just doesn't integrate well with the car IMO. But that is my only issue with an otherwise fantastic car.

seriously, i do like penny's 245 alot, the stance and the wheels doo it. Swap a High performance engine(rebuild redblock with amazing turbo action, or newer tech 5cyl) mod the interior a little, and you've got a nice car on your hands. but for now get ipd's side trim kit. Def the 245!

The 960 is nice save the bumpercooler,Its too ricer for me, it leaves you looking for the big wing in the back. I like the wheels and brakes but it needs window tint.

The 245 is def. more brick-like but Im biased as a 200 fan. With the larger wheels you need to have the larger brakes. Its not unlike the Honda with 17' wheels and 9' drums it just looks odd. So we will be expecting some new pics of the brake kit you purchased with you newly raised credit line or its BAN time untill you do so.

DaytonAE86
02-17-2008, 08:36 PM
So, have you tried the adapters and 17s on poi's car to see if they will clear the 14s. Its not out of the realm of possibilities, and for some reason, I think the two would look better with wheels swapped............

I voted 965, the latest and greatest rendition of the 700... and you can't beat 14 inch brakes and 350+hp...... oh, and it has paddle shifters.

re: motor sickness. I'm in California, so motor swaps and anything performance related is frowned upon. A whiteblock swap would be sooper bitchin', but would NEVER fly as a CARB legal swap for all kinds of fun emissions reasons.

also it would defeat the purpose of the car. It's supposed to be an ultimate urban assault daily driver built on a student budget. It's supposed to be the volvo wagon that came out of nowhere and took your children.

It's staying redblock because the motors practically come at the bottom of every box of Fruit Loops you pick up at the grocery store, anything exploded and/or extruded can be easily and cheaply replaced in a weekend

So, have you tried the adapters and 17s on poi's car to see if they will clear the 14s. Its not out of the realm of possibilities, and for some reason, I think the two would look better with wheels swapped............

I voted 965, the latest and greatest rendition of the 700... and you can't beat 14 inch brakes and 350+hp...... oh, and it has paddle shifters.

the wheels and adapters would stick waaaay out of the fenders, dayton style

95+ 960s run fwd offset wheels, so it would turn his wagon into an outrigger

How did Poi get past Carb?

I knew a guy in Texas that did a white block swap and he passed for his model year 88 740 but I am unsure of the details.

NM = Anything goes :)

Just people with Volvo in their names.

penny, please please don't put the IPD trim on.... it looks so chincy, cutre, or CHEAP. Your car deserves better. The wheels look GREAT, but IMO the ca needs to sit lower.

I am unable to find what size offset rim and tire and wheel adapter package all this is.
Nice work,

ipd trim already ordered. it's also actually on the wheel arches via previous owner's forsight. It's actually quite rad. The only other option is welding the holes shut and repainting. can't be done, not on my budget.

The car will sit about an inch lower once you start selling your roll center correction goodies :)

wheels: 17x8 et35 fronts, 225/45/17 falken azenis rt-615. adapters are 32mm thick 5x108 (65.1mm center) to 5x114.3 (73mm centerbore I think?)

17x9 et35 rear, 255/40/17 rt-615. adapters are 35mm thick
