I'm building a mesh grill. I like the black I put on my factory grill, but I think mesh would really complete it. I read up on some of the threads on how other people have made theirs. I'm not really worried about getting the mesh in there as to how fine a mesh I should use for cosmetic & air flow purposes. I found this at Home Depot and I think it's gonna be a winner:

Thoughts?

Seriously, though. They didn't have the kind of mesh I was looking for except in 6" tall rolls. Guy said to check this metal store not too far from here, so I'll head out in the morning. Hopefully I can get this done before I go to work. Anyone know if it comes in black or do I have to paint it myself? Here's the one I found. I like the gap size, but the dimensions were awful. :(

That lathe material is what I used when I made one back in the day:

It came out ok, but I would probably try to source something else if I was to do it again. I still have a half roll of that stuff in the back yard...

home depot has the mesh in their roofing section in 2x8 foot pieces or something close to that. It was far more than I needed but was only a couple dollars.

You and I must have different Home Depots. I'll try again looking in roofing for any kind of mesh that I like.

240, how big are the gaps in your mesh? Most of what I'm finding is ~1"-2".

just for peace of mind, paint the grille also. If it starts to rust, that might not look so great.

Heres what I used for mine. I found it laying around my friends machine shop.. pretty common expanded sheetmetal.

I have been scoping out the aftermarket Chrysler 300 grill inserts... they have a ton of different patterns, and the size is large enough to cut down for a 240 grill. not sure on price though, probably a pretty expensive project if it ends up lookin like crap.

LoL, that looks exactly like mine. I even have the intercooler logo in the bottom-right like that.

It's 1/2" expanded metal. I got mine at Do It Best for $25.

I have the bars on it now, couldn't figure out how to put them on so they weren't off-center or all the way top or bottom. Figured screw it and just put them 1/2 way between top-bottom, so about 1/4" gap between both.

When I call the sheet metal stores what do I ask for, specifically? "1/2 inch expanded sheet metal"?

So I finally found a store that has the expanded sheet metal I was looking for. I sanded it down a bit and shot it with black high temp grill paint (my dad had some laying around) and it worked out well enough. But when I drew the lines to cut the metal I did it wrong and it came out the wrong size. :\ But when I was looking at my grill to find a spot to epoxy it on to I realized the vertical bars (which I was planning on removing since it looked easy enough) was where the clips actually attach to. So how did everyone else get around this? Leave insert in and just cut out the bars?
