Well, my Alpine head unit (CDA-9856) let out it's magic smoke the other day after a bit more than a year. I was looking around for a new head unit on onlinecarstereo.com and found this Boss Audio head unit. I really like the features it has. Bluetooth with a built in mic for hands free phone, USB port, AUX in port and three sets of 5 volt pre-outs. I know that Boss isn't a really well known brand, but hell, my ALPINE head unit only lasted a year, so how bad could it be? For the price I figure I can't go wrong, but I just thought I'd see if anyone has any experince with Boss stuff.

Here's a link to it.

From what I know of boss, it's crap. Same level as Dual/Sony.

I haven't really heard wonderful things about Boss, but I've never experienced the brand personally. That looks cheap enough to where it would be worth the purchase just because of the features. I was surprised at what it had to offer with that price, so i would say go for it.

I have Boss head units in both my 244 and Hilux. I have had no problems with them, they are a decent quality cheaper head unit.

rice look

yea thats the only thing that it doesn't seem to have, the looks. if you're not too bothered by the looks than definitely looks like its worth the purchase, but that screen just looks cheap to me.

That's pretty low power output, especially for an alpine... have you looked at any of the 2008 Pioneer decks? The 4000UB and up have 3 sets of 4v pre-outs for your aural pleasure.

I still have my boss 2 ch amp has been with me for 8+ years and still works like a champ wouldn't hesitate to put it on any system for subs or rear speakers, and it has been through hell pushing anything from 6x9's to run 3 12's without out issue. right now is under my dresser till I can find a use for it again.

NONONONO... we used to sell boss at the shop, the stuff is great for the $, only if you are buying a dvd/screen/combo monstrosity. get ready for a dead display on a hot day, or cold day. crap fine gauge hookup wires from harness... unexplained on/off issues & swallowed cd's... just from experience. for the price, check out a basemodel jvc or kenwood. jvcs are easier to operate and all come with remotes now, kenwoods have a precieved more robust sound.

the dist. price is like 126.00, so not a bad deal when looking at price.

I got a boss c700 1200 watt max amp in my trunk pushing a 2 ohm mono load. All I had to do is change the 15 amp fuses for 25 amps :grrr:, but it will go into thermal after an hour or so of max volume play. And I've had the amp for 4 years.

Just a little update. I decided to go with the eclipse cd3200.
Quite a bit more than I wanted to spend, but since I'm having the retailer install it, it has a 3 year warranty. I should have it by the end of next week, I'll post the esults.
