View Full Version : GVRD/PNW Mark mini-meet feeler...
Saturday Mar22, Party at my place with special guest appearance of GTJordan!
Running from 1pm to around 11 ish, depending. BBQ, cheap burgers will be provided, feel free to bring your own meat if you wanna go upscale. I'll have a few beer onhand but not enough, so feel free to bring a sixer. Pop will be provided for those who don't drink or are DD.
Corner of 42nd and Main st, Vancouver BC. PM me for phone number and exact addy if you're concerned about finding it. I'm not too comfortable posting that info online.
SO.
There's been idle chatter there should be a minor get-together in the hovel I call "my garage".
I figured I'd put the word out and gauge interest and days that would get some attendance. I'm thinking a Saturday afternoon sometime within the month. I have a barbeque, a propane heater in the garage and a some plastic chairs and a nearby establishment from which to procure beer. We could hang out and talk about megasquirt spark tables, b69e engine blocks  why Cosworth turbo housings are better/worse and spend the evening bashing on TB members who don't show up, basically like every meet :-P.
Seriously though, any interest? Perhaps March 8th? This would be Main Street in Vancouver BC, starting early afternoon and ending say 11pm. Date isn't set in stone, so make suggestions if this ain't good.

The following weekend is Easter and I'll be in Vancouver, but busy on the 22nd with a family dinner. anychance of having it like the 23rd or even thursday night the 21st? Alot of old T-brick friends i'd like to see there, and i'd like to meet you new guys that have showed up in the past 2 years.
Jordan
Yeah we could do the 23rd. That might work better as I hadn't realized there's the Triangleguy meet in Oregon on on the 9th.

Like build a new one?
Or scale the bottomless crack in the foundation to rescue the little clips and assorted fuses Brett has dropped down it?
22nd it is. As far as doing a constructive task, we'll have to see. If we get more than about three people in there with a car as well, constructive would be fitting everyone in without personal injury. :-P

I would love to come, but Easter weekend is a bad weekend given the usual family engagements. I will likely be in Victoria or on Saltspring. Any other weekend is fine by me, and I would help out for sure...
I'll watch the date as it evolve's...

PS - Mark, I'll drop you a line this week for the turbo bits...

I'd rather have something soulless and cold then.:-P
I fought rust to the bitter end on my last car. Once was enough.
And like I said, with the shoddy repairs to the body, the car is tweaked.
It drives fine, but the front end is all slanty and gaps get wide on the passenger side, and when I took off the taillights to replace them it was literally wavy sheetmetal on the right hand side... Ugh.
The car I want has to be in better shape for me to be happy.

The joy of having a '76 is everytime it's even remotely humid another part of my car rots. Getting bubbles all over the place right now. I gotta make a judgement call on whether I'm gonna do some temp rust repair and make it ugly or tough it out and do it pro once everything else is done.

Don't forget this is a 240 Volvo you are talking about...New Mini-vans have nice tight lines...and are less tail happy... :-P
haha
yeah but this car is all twisted.
The driver side of the splash pan won't bolt down, ken at scandia used extra long bolts to make it work, and even then one of them wasn't long enough... Again the front end is all off with the grille and junk... The metal behind the taillights is all warped, the trunk lid was a half assed respray, the right rear quarter is all metal, but the trim was SCREWED on... There's a leak in the trunk from where the body isn't properly sealed from the repair...
Anyways... The old grandma who drove it must've been playing bumpercars with it the 13 years she had it.

most people just make it,
most restaurants will sell "naans" that are thicker, more pita like.
to be honest, I can't say I've seen regular roti sold around. All/most restaurants should or can make it, but naan seems to be what's goin on indian food restaurant wise.
butter chicken, rice and naan ftw.
Autoplan is to insurance what Starbucks is to coffee shops- one on every corner it seems. There must be a pretty good profit in opening an insurance place.
As far as roti, I'm spitting distance from Punjabi Market, Vancouver's little India. I'm embarrassed to say I don't know a really good restaurant there though... I've been to All India Sweets but it's kinda lacking to be honest. I've heard it was better a 5-10 years ago.

I told my g/f I was going to Mark's and she asked, "Will there be any girls"
hahaha
I said no. But I'll ask her again, and let her know there'll be a few more girls there.

why do I keep thinknig this is tommorrow?
I might have a female friend to offset the sausage party. I just need to confirm. The catch may be she might want to work on her car. As far as I understand nothing major. I guess the other question is...is this an issue being new and all to the GVRD turbobricks get togethers.
Let me know if this is a problem
?
How would this be a problem? Girls who dig Volvos are always welcome (and far too rare).

According to Mark's post on the first page...the gathering is for next Saturday the 22nd of March...not the 21st.
Well, my landlord had a guy come by and look over the garage so it may be getting pimped out over the next week, meaning it'll not be as likely to fall over. Hopefully it won't interfere with the BBQ. I hope no one is too offended by my somewhat pedestrian digs and ratty microgarage. It ain't all sexy like Bondo's place. You gonna pop by, Kenny?
Anthony you should totally come up. PM if you need instructions and I'll send you a Googlemap. That goes for everyone. I'm a little shy about posting personal info on a public forum.
Any other WA guys coming?
Thanks!

Mark, don't worry. Kenny's house is sort of crazy.
I walked in and was like, "The hell, a t-bricker lives here?"
I want you guys to all take a look at my for sale thread... Local pickup is more than welcome, I'll give you local guys a great deal, and this stuff can all be thrown easily in the trunk of a 242 for a cross-country trip *cough*

I might try to make it up. If I do come up, it'll be in the '84, since it has working OD on its Aw70, whereas the M46 in my 245 is intermittently functional. Brett, I may be interested in #19, if I can make it up.

Anthony,
What part of the exhaust on Deathwagon fell off? If it's just the rear muffler, ya can probably still drive it, it'll just be a bit annoying. My dad's car, when we bought it, had the front muffler pretty much disintegrated, along with the under axle pipe. Sounded like a lawnmower, but it was still driveable. We did get it fixed, along with the tranny leaks, though.

The bolts right after the cat disintegrated so it has no resonator and no muffler... Sounds a bit like a semi >.<
Actually cool update on the deathwagon.. my friend jumped in my car and my passenger seat snapped in two(i **** you not) and i usually keep the back seats folded foreward so my wagon is usually a single seater right now. I went through the car and realized all the wood in the special 3rd row seats had rotted and molded so i took that all out. While doing that i decided to drop all the weight off that car that didnt have anything to do with making it go foreward, and now its like totally stripped haha... dropped front weight like the ac system and all that jazz...
then i threw the extra set of virgos i had on it with some new tires :P looks kinda raised cuz of the weight i took out actually... lol
So back on topic, its not a quick fix unless someone has cat-back exhaust for an na wagon lying about :)
It wouldn't be a tbricks event if there wasn't breakage related mishaps. I missed the big PNW summer event because my car was running like ass. I let the magic smoke out of the Megasquirt that weekend so it's kinda good I gave it a miss. Well, best of luck trackin' it down Anthony.
I'll have a three-inch exhaust coming off here right away if you're interested... obviously it'd need some fab work though... Finally gonna install the duals I got off Matt.

Hey Mark,
I "will" have a pair, but not ready for you on Saturday. I have a spare pair getting ready to take my long studs, and once I put those in, I will gladly give you the ones off my car...

Rad. I've already got the tubes... Danny (with the blue and white wagon) gave me his old ones. Gotta get around to cutting em down and getting 'em rethreaded.

Spent the last two nights cleaning up around the garage... It's still a tiny little garage but at least it's starting to look organized in a cluttered sort of way. Picked up some dawgz 'n' burgs and gonna go pick up some more beer to shore up my dwindling supply... Anyone have any food/allergy ish I should prep for?

It was alright. Amar Mark and I had a good time. Damn fine chicken.
Hope to do it again next time I'm in town.
Thanks for having us Mark, thanks for the chicken Amar.

Thanks to everyone for coming over! I wish more people coulda made it but It was great to see Phil and Amar and meet GTJordan and his lovely wife (who made friends with my kitties). Shouts to Amar who brought a huge pile of amazing chicken and then manned the grill for most of the cooking duties too.
As always I forgot to take pictures, but here's three.

Phils sexy wagon, which I got my first ride in yesterday. SO. JEALOUS.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b332/Mark_didit/mar22meet/markmeet002.jpg
Photographic evidence to prove Phil was there... He popped by for bit early on but unfortunately duty called and he had to leave before anyone else showed. At least I finally delivered the turbo bits from John... about 5 months later.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b332/Mark_didit/mar22meet/markmeet003.jpg
Me being a 'tard in a rare moment of grilling. Really Amar did the most of it.
I thought Amar popped a photo of Jordan but it wasn't on my camera so he will remain The Man of Mystery. Also missing photographic proof of existance are Cass and Amar.
I don't get much practice at hosting things so I hope everyone had a good time. I'm up to try it again sometime this summer if anyone is game...

It was good to see you Mark, and I'm sorry I wasn't around to kick Amar and say hi to Jordan...
I did my best to leave a good set of tracks on Main St as evidence of my visit...the looked good to me when I left...always nice to leave a signature once in a while.
Glad you liked the ride Mark, short and sweet and without much twisties, maybe you can come out and help me with my Knocksense install and then we will go for a tuning drive out in the valley... :-P
