So I know it's a bit early and I know there's been some discussion (http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=127229&highlight=davis) already -- but thought I'd start a fresh thread to see who's going, caravaning, etc.
Show is May 4th, more info here: http://www.goldengatevcoa.org/

I'll be there, likely driving my 1980 245 B21F+T. Anybody bringing new projects?

I'll be there for the track day and the show. I'll be having a party at my place the night before, so if anyone's interested, we can have the "pre Davis" party at my place. I live in Lincoln, so it's about 35-40 minutes from Davis.
crandandall
03-04-2008, 07:28 PM
Also, anyone going to the track day is welcome to stay at my place, we have plenty of space for parking and if the weather is good you can set up a tent in the yard or something. We can probably sleep about 8-10 people in the house as well.

I wish I could do the track day, but I'm not able to get down there that early. I won't be able to leave here until Friday the 2nd, so I'll just be at the show.
My wife's birthday is the 4th, and she teases me enough about my Volvo obsession -- Luckily we have a friend who lives in Davis so she has someone to hang out with while I'm at the show nerding out on Volvos on her birthday. I can only imagine the look she'd give me if I asked her to come down earlier to go to the racetrack....

I'm going to be there. Hopefully in BADVLVO, but if not I am not against buying another car just to drive it to this event. Mabye a 142? An Amazon? Hell, I don't know, but I WILL be there.
PAT!- If you need help on the damn racecar you know how to find me. I have no life (well a lazy life) and can be in SC in 45 min from my place.
Dan- What will you need for the party?
Is it just me or is it lame to break tradition and hold the track day so far off from the show so it's hard for out-of-towners to make both?

I swapped out the engine...going this Friday for another ref check. The other block was in bad shape. Clearance between the piston and cylinder wall on cyl#1 was 32 or 35 thou :omg: I put the other block in recently, and now she purrs like a kitten. Runs MUCH quieter. I am guessing the contributing factor is LESS piston slap. But if you know someone that is working at a ref station, hook me up;-)

I do have my ***** together. I COULD not get the track for the Monday after the event. We VCOA are the low man on the pecking order at THill. It is first offered to larger people who rent more often (and also the scheduling starts in November the year before) The other problem we had this year was getting the Davis Venue. It has become quite popular and it too also fills quickly. There were also concerns about scheduling it ion Mothers day and some of the big Davis College events that are happening. The logistics in planning 2 events at 2 different venues to fall in line is very difficult.
The other thing I wanted to add up here is the following.
If anyone is willing to help out with parking, clean-up, set-up, tear down shoot me an e-mail scott@goldengatevcoa.org I can use all the help I can get.
Raffle prizes so far on the block are:
2 $250 IPD Gift Certificates
1 $500 Evil Genius Gift Certificate (good for parts or Service)
1 $100 Gift Certificate from iRoll Motors
We are also having a 50/50 raffle. The more people that buy tickets the bigger the pot (and yes you will get the cash right there)
If you know of someone (or a company) that would like to throw some stuff into the raffle pot have them get in touch with me at the above e-mail ASAP.
See you guys there.
Scott

Scott-
As I have in the past, I am always willing to help out with parking and whatever else.
The change in the traditional track day is going to be an issue with many of us who like to participate in that event. Mabye it can be set for the Monday after the show for next year. It's tough if you don't like that close to be able to go up on Thursday and then hang around all the way until Sunday for the show. That's something that I hope will be worked out for next year.
As for the location in Davis, I know it is reserved often so mabye there might be a venue change in the future? I know that's not easy in Davis with all of their rules, and it's a good location right now.

I can probably get it done, I just have not heard the status on the MS and I don't have the funds to put a windshield on the car and pay for the gas to haul it up just for the show. I've got my fingers crossed the stimulus money will show up in my account by Thursday.
Building a track car from the ground up on the average salary of a 22 year old was such a ****ing bad idea. I could have just bought a 1st gen RX7 already prepped, taken 4 vacations and saved the rest so I could actually build up some money for the future.
I'll probably STFU as soon as it is running and be happy again.

If you're taking 99 North, head all the way up to Sacramento, then get on HWY80 to San Francisco. Follow 80 to Davis (about 20 minutes from 99 if there's no traffic and you're doing 70), exit Richards Blvd.
You'll come to a light, go straight, through a tunnel, under some railroad tracks, there's a stop light on the other end of the tunnel. That intersection is the corner of E and 1st Streets. Downtown is set up in a Letter/Number grid. The meet is in Central Park at the corner of 3rd and C.
Or you can mapquest it- 3rd at C St, zip code 95616.

No racecar because I'd rather spend the money it would cost to just tow it up and show it off unfinished towards actually getting it finished. I could have had it running but I put off bringing it to the show when I figured out it won't be able to run since the MS is not here yet.
No ES though....even if I was able to get whatever it needs right now I'd just be sick of working on cars. Been doing it with almost all of my free time the past week.
I'll have a sick BBQ at my house when I get the racecar finished.
