Linsborg is a lot closer for me than KC meet last year, a short 6 hrs.
You guys who complain about a 7 hr haul to a meet, think like Irv, drive the brick everywhere, and come on down! Hopefully he'll show up this year, too.
I drove 22 hrs to Solvang, Ca for the West Coast meet in '03.
Anybody know a good camping spot near/in Linsborg? I want to bring the big dog this time, no hotels for us, helps pay for gas.

Ohh yeah thats fine. Thanks though. I talked to Dustin the other day. He says he wants to plan a meet soon, so that will be fun.
Man dont scare me with blowing my motor. I gotta becareful though. When I heard the turbo I wanted to rip it up. I started the car but it still hasnt left the driveway. I need a fan first. Im hoping is idles better after running it for awhile. Maybe the computers need to 'relearn"?
JohnMc
04-22-2008, 01:34 PM
Mine didn't seem to have much trouble when it was still LH 2.4 and I replaced the mintygreentops with some browntops.
Are you putting an e-fan on? I still have a lightly hacked at 240 fan shroud (to account for the radiator moving back to make room for the IC) and mechanical fan laying around somewhere in the garage. You could have them if you wanted to pick them up.
The Ironswede
04-22-2008, 02:18 PM
yeah I got an E fan. But thanks! I need to find a good wiring kit for it. I dont have a temp sensor either.
I'll make this thread valid by saying I will need this fan for the trip to KS.

Give him your name plus any antendees you are going with, your email, street address, and car that you will be entering. and he told me to ask you guys if you all wanted to park in the same area so we dont have to be split up amongst the older people and their stock cars.

I'm staying in a tent, on a lake for $10 a nite. You can probably put 3-4 tents on one site, that's $2 each.
I prefer the outdoors, a canoe, and a cooler of beer to a stuffy hotel, anyday. Lake Kanololis is 30 miles west of Linsborg, if anybody else wants to rough it. There are cabins available, too.
We may have a north TX contingent going up there, too.

Pete, did you have to make reservations for the camp grounds? i'm planning on pitching a tent as well.
spe1983
05-14-2008, 01:00 AM
Very interesting, Hopefully I can get something together. So many options but only a few that I want. I would love to get a b230/B21 in my 142 with some boost and my megasquirt along with a M41 for the most fun, but i think just getting a M41 instead of the bw35 would be good enough for now. Good times. Maybe selling the 245 will fund this work and hopefully getting everything ready for the summer. We definitely need a separate turbobricks hell raiser section.
Look forward to seeing everyone there, hopefully everyone makes it there safely.
smosit
05-14-2008, 10:35 AM
Spencer,
do you need an M41? i have a really nice one i'll let go for a reasonable price...it has a d-type OD, however, which mean you just have to be careful shifting into OD. i'll throw in a flywheel and PP for free.
send me a PM if you're interested.

No, tent camping is first come, first serve at most of the areas. There's hundreds of sites though. I will look at the ones the camp host told me were best, lakeside with privacy away from the RV's, one called Sandy Shore.
See you there. We should have a good party of TB'ers there.
spe1983
05-16-2008, 03:13 PM
Excellent work. Sounds like alot of fun. This camping idea sounds better all the time, but camping in kansas in the summer sounds a little rough. But then again Sandy Shore sounds like lake front paradise. But the image of 5 or so turbo volvos being loud and obnoxious makes me smile.

Spencer, your more of a man than me. When it comes to rest, I want total and complete confornt. Like I said earlyer, Brandon and I are staying at the Mariott in Salina.
Pretty sure if my Judge friend (David) brings his 122s, his wife is going to bring the 2003 VW Westfalia to camp in. Thats what we really need
Some partyin' action sounds great. Someone arrange something. Party it up in KC Sat night? no?

As long as we aren't too loud past curfew, 11:00 pm-6 am, we can do about anything we want. (within the law, of course).
I don't see the summer heat being too much of a factor, that's what the cooler of beer and lake is for.:)
I think once all the VCOA activities have wrapped up, the evenings will be real nice at lakeside, and cool down.

Today the 240 will be back on the road again! Assuming the temp sensor adapter that is showing up today fits. Then next Saturday I will get my exhaust parts welded on and then Im going to drive it all week to make sure its road worthy for the KS trip. The inside of my car is nice but the outside is rough. Someone will need to park real close to my bad side at the event :)

Only Girly-Men allow lack of Volvo to be excuse for non-attendance of the Midsommar... j/k It's just when you read this thread from the beginning all in one sitting it reads like a novel!! I'm forced to drive my 90 740 again this year because the rear main is gone in my 84 760 Tic and the conversion on my 89 245 will be cutting it mighty close...and even if the motor work was done, the seats would still be a wreck. So...I guess a bunch of Brick heads will have to see me in the same old white boring as Hell, 740.

bah! winning's for losers. it's all about drinkin' beer in the sun, oggling at other peoples' cars and chewin' the fat with fellow volvo nuts....and then there's the road rally, where you can get lost in the country trying to figure out Scott's wacky riddles whilst hungover and dehydrated! this is a lot more fun than hangin' some plaque in your garage. plaques, schmaques.

I'm needing to stop by Swedish Imports (Volvo only salvage yard) in Edmond to pick up a few interior parts I left behind last time on accident  This will be a small detour, but will require taking I-44 as opposed to highway 412
Google maps link (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=Tulsa+oklahoma&daddr=35.614884,-97.440491+to:lindsborg+kansas&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=1&sz=9&via=1&sll=36.352739,-97.099915&sspn=1.54618,2.406006&ie=UTF8&ll=37.186579,-95.174561&spn=6.116404,9.624023&z=7)
Dont know if all of you want to come. Its a SWEET salvage yard filled with all types of Volvos, and I can make arrangements for all of us to go raid the yard and have a chat with the owner. Pretty cool if anyone is interested. Otherwise, I'll have to break away from the group to make the trip down there

WHAT THE **** GABE, almost a 2 hour detour, Man up and have them ship it and save money (gas money), instead of making that detour. We can do whatever, I can schedule it with work to leave at lunch and be ready to go by 12 on Friday. Pray to God I can get my M41 swap completed in my 142, maybe even figure out how to have working breaks in time as well. Gabe you are required to bring your trailer hitch in case someone(mostly me) has issues... Im sure a huge caravan of volvos would be sweet. Let figure out whats going to be the best way to roll. Ahhh Gabe, just giving you a hard time. It cool I don't think driving down there should be too much trouble. Do you know if you can get get your old judge buddy to see if he has a spare fuel injected b20 head, I might like to have a spare just in case. Maybe I can see how much the bumpers are on that 144 at Sweedish, yum.
So theres a group coming out of Dallas?? You guys want to meet in OKC so you don't have to make a trip from OKC to Tulsa and then back to OKC. I have no problem meeting at my house around noon. Sounds like a good plan, and it looks like I might actually get this transmission swap done if it doesn't rain every single minute of every single day between now and then.
Might be a great idea if Gabe could go down around 9:30-10ish and meet us at the I-35/highway 64 intersection. That way everyone could meet up here in Tulsa, and catch you on the way up, or they could meet you in OKC. I think that sounds like a brilliant idea. But don't let me boss everyone around just spitballin here. I am just hoping that My 142 will hold together and make it...
Any other thoughts??

I currently drive a beat up somewhat ricey Saab 900. It is a Swedish festival and Saab's are Swedish...
We're starting a St. Louis Saab and Volvo club. If I'm able to I might want to come out and try to get some Volvo guy's to join up.

Trust me Im not very happy right now. I worked really hard to be ready for this weekend. And it almost happened. I had a slight oil leak where I added my relocation kit. I was just going to remove it and come to KS. When I drained the oil I found LOTS of metal. Like fingernail sized chucks on my magnet drain plug.
I did however find and buy a 93 turbo motor. Im going to build a super motor out of it! Know where I can get GOOD pistons, crank etc?
I'll make a post abo0ut this whole day soon.
Now lets see some pics of what I missed! :)

Yeah, weaksauce. Made my trip all that much worse
and yeah, that battery made boom in Tulsa. Blew out my headlights too :volvo:
Replaced the alt from one Spencer had at his house in the parking lot there, and proceeded to go to walmart to exchange yet another battery. Those ****ers couldn't do it after 11pm. WTF! I was not a happy person.
I just jacked Spencer's battery out of his 142 until I can return to Walmart tomorrow morning
So yea, my trip home was a good 7 hours to get home, including stopping to see a "friend" in Perry Oklahoma. :oogle:

We made it back in right after midnight to my place. Had to stop and jack my car up..was making an odd sound on decel. Some how the innder CV joint on the pass side busted. No biggie, limped it on home. I'll fix it later this week.
Nice to meet everyone, I'll have some photos up later.

On the road trip I came to realize how dependent I've become on the 93 octane stations around here in St. Louis have. I've been edging the boost up bit by bit, and now it's around 20 - 24 psi. Actually, I have noticed that I have to get Phillips 66 93 octane, the other station's 93 octane pings a little. On the road trip the best I could get was 91, and that left me needing to be a little more careful with the throttle.

 no sh!t!! sadly, it seems he's become a bit of a jerk...at least to me. he didn't seem to mix with the crowd much at all, nor did he look at other peoples' cars. mostly, he just stood by his car, did a few photo-op's, and when people would ask about his car, he'ld give these smug, matter of fact responses. not to bash the guy too much, but it seemed pretty lame to me. oh well.

Great to see all you guy's this weekend. Had a great time.
I could reallly tell how watered down the KS gas is. I stopped at NAPA on the way out and picked up some boost and Techron, but still not as good as pure 93 w/o ethanol. The car dropped 3 mpg on the crap gas, got 27 most of the way home yesterday.
The only downside of the weekend is that after putting all the work into new A/C, a hose blew out in Witchita and it was 100 deg for the next 6 hrs back to Dallas.
