so my POS ran a 13.74 today, damn thing must be pretty heavy trapping around 98mph, should have tried with something less than a full tank of gas. i used Rob's slicks, got two runs and then the input shaft on the m46 sheared off. 13.74 is not bad but i was hoping to launch higher to bring it down to a 13.5 but that is when it broke. i looked just like a fwd guy... blap blap blap blap, bouncing off the rev limiter at 6600, dump the clutch, then nothing.

oh well, Rob towed it back FTMFW, again. thanks bud.

20 psi, i think the cat converter is becoming a bit melty inside, it trapped higher last time with less boost and same fuel/ign maps... cat has got to go.

i'll put my dynomax in its place. i was skeptical about this cat clogging up and killing top end but after i punched a few pounds of melted converter shiz out of MrDoug's exhaust, his car instantly went back to being a 14 second car from almost loosing to a stock 760t.

i got the same cat he had a little while after he got his. now mine is starting to show similar symptoms, soo it's gotta go.

Gordo battle:

Race weight on the truck was about 6500lbs. It sure feels fast from a roll with ~600lb-ft torque on level 4, but doesn't get off the line so well.

Matt's car is hilarious with the slicks...it rocks back so far on the launch. It didn't really look like it was pulling hard down the 2nd half of the track, so maybe the cat is causing it. With the changes he made, and having gone for a ride in the car since then, I expected 100+ traps based on past performance. The weather today was GREAT turbo weather, too (cloudy & 50's). Something's not quite right, but it was still quite fast obviously.

I can't wait to get out there and break my car.

when you guys race in a straight line for like 10-15 seconds...

do you shift into fourth?

I bet my car wouldn't trap 80. And my second gear will go to around or a little under 80mph.

Congrats on finally breaking the 14'z

on my old stock 242 3rd gear was just running out of steam about 100 feet to the end of the track. I would debate whether or not to shift to fourth and didn't race it enough to find out which was best.

In my few experiences with the current 242, 4th gear was mucho important

nope, but stuff has broken. broke a motor mount at the strip once. did three runs, it broke on the first, wheel hopped BAD on the second, and hooked pretty well after I put the ratchet strap on for the 3rd run. M47 seized and got stuck in gear, limped it home. got towed off the track twice last time cause the back up light wiring grounded on the body when I launched and it killed the fuse that MS happened to be run off of. pretty much destroyed the clutch on the ONE good run I got with the turbo (used 8.5" centerforce, has never felt right and is getting replaced soon). broke some lights and body panels before. ;-) my diff is a ticking time bomb. so is the turbo but I pulled it for a rebuild already. I try not to break stuff for the sake of breaking cause I like driving my car (home).

I noticed he didn't submit his (your) time. Good on him for having some respect for himself. Then Mike had to go and liberate it... (Who's side are you on Mike? :-P )

I have no problem with people letting friends drive their cars. Some people are just better drivers or have more experience or both. If you aren't sure you are getting all you can out of your car it's a good test/learning experience. But to submit that time for a "bragging rights" competition seems kind of lame to me. (speaking in general, not aiming at anyone).

Why does it matter who drives? It's the car that Matt built, plain and simple. And anyway, the only reason I think I was faster was because I got the launch right, I had driven on those slicks before. He hadn't used them yet, and wasn't sure how high the revs had to be to get it to go :)

Anyway, the point is moot, cause I know his car will run faster soon enough anyway. If you want the rule changed, then make an amendment soon!

15g right? i finally agree that bigger isn't always better, the wheel designs of the mitsus are much less pre-historic than the stock garrett stuff... i also think that a mildly worked 8v will go much faster with a 16t than just a big garrett sporting stock wheels.

At this point I'm just trying to get my car running again as the motor went south on me and a rod started knockin. It burned oil from the get go real bad. I'm in the process of putting in a 84 b23ft moartar all stock with only 35k on it, but with the 16t and 90+ and NPR and freds chipped lh2.4 and a getrag. We'll see how it can take 20psi. I hope to get er done soon so I can head to the drags some more.
