I had my Diesel about 2 weeks now, I had bought it from the original owner. The D24 have 288k with a rebuild over 100k ago. The P.O. lived in West Virginia and came to Oregon for work once a month. One of my Diesel friends was so surprise how its starts with no hesitation even for sitting for months on. My plans for the car is to leave foreign oil and go to Bio Diesel The car right now is a automatic its a little slow but I found a another Diesel with a manual tranny, so hopfuly I cane get 40 MPG when I'm done with it.

nice rig....
he said +t, not ++t :)
only need one, not two...of course it wouldn't last as long with a compound turbo setup :-P
seriously, search this forum for a +t diesel...been done before and is still running strong and well worth the effort....

I don't see why a bi turbo setup would kill the engine sooner? I like the idea of playing with a D24/diesel, if I'd buy a D24TD I might get some N/A exhaust manifold, make a flange and run 2 Garrett VNT turbochargers.... ( or 2 KKK K14's)

I want a diesel so bad, slow or not, I would rock it. Hows the interior on the car? makes a great project IMO

compound turbo does not equal bi or twin turbo (http://www.atsdiesel.com/ATSWebsite/HIWCompounds.asp)
i'd still turbo this one.... but than again, I cannot even turbo my gas car when all the parts are just a few blocks away at the wreckers :)

I still don't see how a turbo is going to kill a turbo. Its not comparable to a gasser situation, fuel is the dangerous part not boost.

Aha ok, that's what you meant. Like in serial charging.

The interior is wasted the guy his parents was the first owner and I dont why he really did what he did. For Example in the picture you see the hood bent well he could nt get the hood shut so he jump on it.

Its not that the The diesel motor is going to kill the turbo from boost is just the D24TD have proper pistons and a IP but not the D24, You can put a Turbo on the D24 but it only last for so long.

I don't know what would be so improper about the pistons... As for the ip, you are just going to live without boost enrichment. You will make less power than a td but more power than an na and not make any smoke at all. You could increase the fueling of the stock pump but with some smoke out of boost. That said, I see TDs in the junk yard all the time. A td pump shouldn't be too hard to get.

The pistons on the TD have piston squiters

They help but nothing id consider life or death. Probablly wont last another 100k but it wont do that anyway.

There is no such thing as boos enrichment. The turbo pump has an off boost defueling device to reduce smoke, but max fuel is limited by pump plunger diameter.

Yeah, i don't know the specifics on the d24. Its pretty much the same thing, if you can have it delivering one quantity of fuel off boost and another on. The only difference is going to be the smoke. Suppose egts could be an issue off boost with a lot of fuel...

mine runs great, i don't care how long it lasts, the agony of the 80hp car is gone!
no more having to decide "do i want 55mph? or do i want to have the a/c on?"
Probablly wont last another 100k but it wont do that anyway.
Don't jump to conclusions to fast man, thats only 388k. I have one with 408k on it, still kickin'. It's a actually the same year and color as this one. Nice ride mate. ;-)
I would highly encourage the manual swap. Also find out when the last time the timing belt was changed, if that thing breaks your valves go to town on your camshaft. (60k change intervals, change the back one while your at it.)
When you say "Bio Diesel", are you referring to running it on Biodiesel, or converting it to run on Straight Vegetable Oil?
Keep us posted.

I'm going to buy a 1982 diesel with a blown motor, that has a manual tranny. I going to swap everything over.
The timming belt is due I dont have the special tools right now to change the timming belt.
I want to run Bio Diesel, Not SVO or WVO.
