i am somewhat pissed that this 4th m46 took a crap on me, more frustrated really, i knew it was coming, just have to deal with it. the mainshaft out the back split in half.. i took the liberty of finishing off the trans myself.

dissapating my frustration, more like the "this is going in the trash so let's see if i can break it" video :-P

It's weird how clean & straight the break is- it looks like someone cut it on a bandsaw.

last time i checked it was 220whp and 272wtq, maybe more now, i will dyno again at carlisle.. it makes a buttload of low and high end torque.

i agree, just my opinion though. it is nothing for me to swap in another m46, $75 at the junkyard and an hour later, good to go again... it does get old, i will be happier with a t5.

wrong side of the trans. i would need the front part of the shaft to break for that.
good thought though.
****, I kept reading input shaft... d'oh

that was my initial guess, it was the mainshaft that broke, but the rear part.

keep 'em until the BG distributor comes back... they have little plastic coins in them that you get $0.25 or $0.50 from the distribution guy, a lot of cans=few extra dollars for gas.

...another m46, $75 at the junkyard...
$90 now....time to cut down on the transmission replacement frequency.
I cut the big end off the rod tonight and it got a lot lighter. Should work out well. ;-)

Funny story. That same part lives on the trophy shelf at my dad's house. It was 1976, and he had a customer out on a test drive in a brand new Volvo 264. While demonstrating the awesome torque with an aggressive launch, ie sliding your foot off the side of the clutch pedal. The car just jerked a couple inches, and then made the rest of the trip back to the dealership on a tow truck. I swear, the part looks identical. It is a clean shear that looks machined.
good work on the 13 second pass
