From Lee Cordner, VCOA president:

DAVIS – Sunday May 2

This event will be one of the largest Volvo gatherings in California this year. Last year there were nearly 200 cars. This year's event should be bigger and better. The event will attract Volvo owners from all over the west coast.

The cost is $5 per car for VCOA members $10 per car for non VCOA members. Also if you are selling lots of parts there will be an additional $10 for an additional parking space.

The Davis Central Park Pavilion is located on 3rd and C streets in Davis. It is right near downtown so that you can walk to restaurants, shops etc. It is a great, shady place with a playground for kids, etc.

This has been our very best event for four years now.. Don't miss this one.

If you are coming from out of town, here is a list of motels near the park.

Thunderhill is a 1.7 mile road course * see http://www.thunderhill.com This is a chance to drive your car on a closed course at speed. No racing. Instructors are available for beginners.

This event has been getting more popular over the years. We will cut off registration at 50 cars to ensure plenty of room on the track for every one. You will get 4 * 30 minute on track sessions. You'll need a helmet and regular highway safety equipment and your car must pass a simple tech inspection.

We will need your money by March 1 to guarantee you a spot, after that spots may or may not be available. You can join VCOA online at http://www.vcoa.org it is $30 per year.

Unless you guys want to make donations to the "Teach Baby Noah How to Drive BY Getting Him on the Track Foundation", I don't think I'm going to be able to run on the track. That or I get hit in the head with a check for 190 something dollars, which I will then spend on my car, and not go the track. So yeah, unless someone else is paying, I don't have the dough  :pow:

Hey,

I'm at about 35 cars now for thunderhill, I am expecting to get some money from the IPD guys and the MVP people which will put us over 40. I will cut off at 50 cars to keep track conditions uncrowded. If you are going to Thunderhill I need to see the green stuff soon.

$160 for VCOA members

$190 for non members

VCOA membership $30.

Weezil, you haven't lived till you've broken something 900 miles from home...

Besides, with several local dealerships, and Volvo used parts suppliers nearby, and a handful of the West Coast's best Volvo techs, modifiers and racers in attendance, what better place to break your car?

You still coming down here Friday for the bumper? What time you aiming for?

Thunderhill is completely sold out. Davis will be pretty big if I am reading the tea leaves correctly. Get there early if you want a good spot.

If any of you are going to Thunderhill to watch and hang out, I could really use some help in a couple of areas... If you are willling to work in pre-grid or help with general stuff We'll buy you lunch.

Let me know... lee@vcoa.org I'm going pretty fast at the moment getting details done for Davis and Thunderhill, so it is unlikely I'll check the message board again soon. Email me if you are interested. Thanks!

Hopefully they'll make the Davis show, too. I'll let you know as this firms up.

Ok, so it looks like we'll be leaving closer to 9am-ish instead of 8am (somewhere in there). So far it looks like it'll be me, Steve O, Gary in his red 144 (from the last BB), and possibly his brother Kevin in his 244Ti.

I spoke with Gary, he mentioned something about meeting up at that truckstop at the Mack Rd/Hwy 99 exit, just a bit closer the 50/80/99 split. A tad bit closer to the interchange, and a bigger parking lot too.

Thoughts?

Not the greatest neighborhood in the world though :(

Chevrons lot is a pretty easy place to meet up right next to the freeway, good parking. Same deal, just 5 minutes earlier (if your heading up that way).

5 minutes earlier? I must be thinking of the wrong Chevron station then. We'll be heading that way from Sunrise & 50. If that's closer than the truck stop at Mack, we'll definitely meet up there... :)

lol, davis saturday night... Maybe hit G-street Bar, so the underagers can "hang out"... outdoor patio that they could chill just outside of, but still hang together. Pat G is probably comming aswell, aswell as some of my friends.

Looks like it'll be pretty sweet day Sunday... Warm too... expect low to mid 90's up here... dress accordingly!

I'm sure Noah will be happy to leave a spot next to his car, jsut so he's more likely again to be in any pics of your car :) Poor Justin, he may actually need to get people to take pics of his because it's car, not because he's parked next to Doug. Does anyone know if any magazines are gonna have specials about the Euro meet, and if they are gonna have any volvo pics in it?

My friend who lives near Davis showed this to me. He said it was crazy when he went to Vegas last weekend along 80. Everyone needs to watch out, we dont want to be getting tickets (especially me with no money).

Not out of the ordinary, especially down Donner pass.

One saving grace ... for those with less-than-fixed-up Volvo's, you're more likely to get away. Given a choice, they will pull over something sportier.

-- Kane ... riced cars are their favorites. They usually write up some fix-it tickets too.

If you guy's are staying in Davis Saturday night, a few of us will be at G-Street Pub from about 9-whenever, Me, Ryan, Noah, Pat G., and maybe Peter and co. from MVP A few blocks from EVERY hotel in Davis. Stop by, have some drinks! Usually a $3 cover... Live bands. Fairly cheap domestic beers... $2 PBR, $3 BUD... Gotta be 21+ to get in, but they have an outdoor patio to hang just outside of. Trust me, not as bad as it sounds! Otherwise, see everyone Sunday!

I agree Peter's 740 should have taken first. It is as clean and as performance modded as a Volvo can get. And it runs like it too. The flaw I think was that most 240 owners (there were more than 30 there) voted for a 240. Personally, I voted for Peter's car.

But I think Dougy is getting dilusional on who should have been in 2nd place
:-P
