View Full Version : 960 extended wheel studs

I've searched for the past few days on this.. no luck.

I'm running 10mm spacers on the front of my 96 960 wagon, and there isn't enough thread with the stock studs to be safe. Is there any place I can source wheel studs for this?

Are the ARP studs that folks use on their 240s (that they weld in) workable in the 960? I'm willing to do whatever I can.. it's easy to find for other cars example: ( http://www.racingworks.com/skunk2_extended_wheel_studs.htm )

Does anyone have the studs specs for the Volvo ones so I could find something close?

Any help is appreciated!

I had the same issue and ended using tuner lugs they have a portion of the threaded part that extends past the conical section and goes into the wheel a ways. Gave me enough enough threads on the lug gripping the stud so I didn't have to worry anymore. You're supposed to have the same depth of thread as you have width of stud.

Got them from a local tire place. They were custom ordered but only cost about a buck a shot more than regular lug nuts.

Thanks
Renny

KG trimning sells longer studs, but they are in Sweden:

http://www.kgtrimning.com/spacerplattor.htm

It's the 6th row under the Modell-headline.

They do not list the studs alone on the website, but they do list them in their catalogue.

Part number HBL-740 is for a 69mm stud, total lenght. It's for the front and they specify 13,5mm splines.

HBL-240 is for 200-series in any corner and for 700-series rear axle. For that they list 16,3mm splines and 72mm total lenght.

Reading the list on the website reveals that same studs should fit to both 700 and 900 series.

EDIT: I have a vague feeling that Kaplhenke racing has some studs for sale as well but i could not get in to their website for some reason. Maybe you should ask from blkaplan as well.

What address were you using? website is working for me?

I do have studs. At the moment they are just 240 studs but those also work in the rear of the 740.

BNE was working on longer front studs for the 700/900.

There are some nice long ARP studs for Moser axles that have close to the same spline diameter as the 700/900 studs and have the 240 thread specs. However, the stud head is larger than the 700/900 stud head meaning one would either have to turn it down or enlarge the recess in the back of the hub.

Also the underside of the stud head is square not tapered as on the stock stud. I was contemplating using them but would rather not alter the hubs for safety reasons.

Looks like KG or SAM is the way to go. That comes to $75. for 10 before shipping charges are added.

BNE, do you have an account with SAM? I would go for a set of long 700/900 front studs and probably the OP of this thread as well plus maybe others.

thanks,

-steve

I will just get them made in the states, between shipping and the exchange rate I have a feeling those studs would be way too expensive to resell.

One question to anyone who is interested in the 700 / 900 series front studs. Would you mind if i upgrade the front to 1/2-20 instead of m12-1.5 Its a little bit beefier and stronger. Not a bad idea if you are planning on using a spacer...

What do you guys think?

That is fine with me. That's the thread size of the ARP Moser axle studs. Shouldn't make any difference to the Volans.

only difference would be needing different lug nuts

I think that's a great idea... Too bad they won't be ready for me in time :-(.

I think I'm going to contact SAM and try get some studs sent out. Hopefully the shipping time doesn't kill me!

Hah.. sorry Ben, I don't know how comfortable I am with drilling myself.. or taking it someplace here for them to do it. Then I have the splines to worry about.

Normally I'd be all about supporting you, but it makes me nervous! So the SAM route will be the path this time.

ok, another option is if you need new wheel bearings / hubs I could just get some here and send them to you with the studs installed. If not thats cool, but buying against the Kr and shipping is a bitch
