I have a 1985 245GLT with the full compliment of IPD suspension mods/upgrades. I am considering a wheel/tire upgrade to a 16in. dia x 7.5in wide wheel with a 215/50 or 225/50 tire. Am I going to have problems running this wheel/tire combo. Thanks in advance for the advice.

yea you will have problems.
you shouldnt run wider then a 7in on a 240. With out fenders being rolled.
DO NOT run a 225 you will damage the tire on full turns.
215 will give you some rub but dont to bad.

this is the short version i put a longer explanation in a different thread yeasterday.

Running 225 45 16 on a 7" Rim on a lowered GT - no problems. Did have a rubbing problem with 50s however.

Not sure how things change with the wagon, but on the GT 225 is no problem with correct A/R

B-Ready had some bad luck imho, his 225/50-16's should have fit with room to spare, thinking adjustable pan hard rod might have corrected that. Plus you're not sure what the offset of those wheels are right jb?

I have driven a car w/ 225/45-17 on a 17x7.5 wheel on a 240 and a 245 both lowered (i guess) via IPD springs. I've also seen 18x8's w/ 225/40-18 tires which both owners claimed not to rub. Neither with any wheel well mods or rolling lips.

You could use an 8" with 225 tire on the front w/o any modifications. The rear would require the fender lips to be cut/rolled, but they can fit w/o any rubbing.

I've used 225/50/15 on the front. I've seen 225/45/17 and 225/40/18 on the front w/o rubbing. With correct offset, or smaller offset than stock, they will fit. A 225 in the rear may rub if the axle is way off center, or the car is lowered a lot, or the offset is not correct. I've seen 225/55/16 on the rear of a 240, and he just had to hammer back the lip at about a 4" section right above the mudflaps. The width isn't too big a deal, but when combined with a tall tire, it may cause problems.

What offset have you used that caused problems?

I should have added that all info i provided was with stock offset.
