My brother and I have been meaning to build one of these for a few years now. Finally got off our asses last week.

Started with a frame and some panels:

Finished main box:

Fast forward to today, finished bottom collector, added gloves, glass, paint, and an interior light:

Side swings open like-a-so:

Bling-blang footpedal, made from some scrap box section and an old blow-gun:

The main box measures 20" deep, 18" high, and 36" wide. The depth was mostly limited by where the cabinet sits, between the garage doors.

It's 5/8" plywood, so hopefully it won't disintegrate immediately. Chris Wiita's is chiefly made of wood, and so is Doug's, and they don't seem to have any problems.

Just from using mine (its metal) I know the back gets a lot of beating from media blasting off the parts, etc...

You might consider putting some heavy duty plastic or some sheet metal on the backwall to protect the wood.

or just try different things out first.. try putting a sheet of wood against the back board where media hits mostly.. then try that out for a few projects, then see how it lasts.. if it doesnt go through much at all, then just leave it, if it eats through the wood easily, then try a thin sheet of metal..

metal might be better anyway though, thinner, save more room..

Yeah, I'll probably just go straight to metal. The inside dimensions are already smaller than what I would like.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Looks sweet! +1 on metal though. I know you said it;s just tmep but if it does start to get beat up, just some metal flashing on the back wall would probably work wonders.

i would love to have one of these. but the ones i used always have a screen on the bottom with smaller holes. so bigh peices or crap wouldnt get reused. is that a concern? or do you have another filter? clogging the gun FTL awsome work karl!

nice!
i just bought a blast pot/pressure blaster and still need a cabinet for it.
The guy who sold me the pressure plaster told me that rubber sheet would work best to deflect blasting media.
