Well for those of you who got told in the past that virgos 15x6 w/ 205/60-15 tires wouldnt fit your 740, i can say :bs: to that.

Swapped my stock 240 turbo virgos over to the '86 745 n/a and they fit with tons of room between the wheel and the caliper. (I am correct in thinking in the past people had said they would hit the calipers?)

are the turbo calipers different? 760?

Could it be an issue with the 11.25 inch brakes found on 88/89 on 7 series?

I believe the difference between early and late 5 spoke 15 x 6 wheels is offset. 25 mm for early and 20 mm for late.

There is also another rumor that 780 15 x 7 wheels do not fit some cars.

won't fit on mine, they won't clear the brakes.

the offset for the 240 turbo virgos are 20mm.. theres at least 10mm of space between the caliper and spokes, and probably 20+mm between the caliper and the rim once on the 740.

I will (one day) try and fit them on my brothers '90 745tic and see what the issue is.

calipers are different on turbo cars. I've got my set of virgos on my 740 right now, but they wouldn't fit the front on my 760 and I really didnt feel like grinding anything off the back of the wheels so they would

I tried fitting them to my friends wifes 93 945GL. They fit right up against the brake caliper and you can't rotate the wheel at all. They fit fine in the back, though. The wheel needed to be designed with more clearance. The car came with 15x6 Aries wheels and we thought the Virgos would fit since the stock wheels are the same size. No dice.
Best regards,

The 15" wheel (multi-x) from my 780T fit and ran just fine on my old '93 940T.

Yeah, but those are 15x7's... Virgo's won't fit on my car w/ the big brakes, and I didn't try w/o...

Incidentally, why would you want virgos on a 7/9? they look frightening imo. but ya they fit on NA cars w/ small brakes. The offset is a non-issue. Also some 7's have the little pin that comes off the rotor. you need to replace that with a short 10mm bolt.

they fit on alll 7 cars without ABS iirc weather or not you can take an angle grinder to the back of the caliper is still untested ;)
speaking of rims looking bad on a 740 I wonder how coronas would look :-P

I don't think they'd even fit... maybe I guesss.... The virgo wasn't even close to fitting on my car... it'd need a spacer.

i think the virgos look better on the 740 then the 240 :e-shrug:

wont clear ABS calipers EVEN with a 5mm spacer. Been there done that in my driveway.

So then it's a ABS issue???

I've been looking to put some Virgos on my 760 Turbo, with thoughts of painting them dark grey, I just hope they do fit ok, I don't have ABS, but do have the larger 2 peice Bendix setup.

While on this subject, anyone got some pics of Virgos on their 700?

they actually look better on an '75 164
a buddy of mine has virgos on his 740 '87 GLE and they do look good on his car.
definitely won't fit on bigger rotor cars, such as turbos or with ABS.

I've seen two different types of the Vigros. :e-shrug:

One type on 240 and the other on 740.

The type I've seen on 740 didn't have as deep edge as the 240 type.

1 in. on 740 and 2 in. on 240.

btw (speaking of norway): I've seen in my mechanic's yard two kinds of stamps on virgos: "made in norway" and "made in germany".
dunno if this means anything when it comes to fitting virgos on an 700.

There's a white early model 740 around Toowong with Virgo's. I used to see it quite often, at the end of Miskin Rd., but I haven't noticed it for a while, not sure if it's still there these days.

Almost identical wheels. One of them has a slightly wider lip, but not by much. I could also feel a weight difference, but I can't remember which was which. Think the Norway casting has the narrower lip, and the Germany casting felt lighter. There's also a difference where the spoke curves down to meet the lip. While sanding wheels to repaint, I noticed one had less space between the spoke and the lip.

The ones you are talking about on 740's are actually dracos... and they are lighter than the Virgos... Have a lug cover also. Similar, but not quite the same. Mike, I'm pretty sure it was the German Virgo's that were lighter... I do remember that post a while back.

I have a 85 744ti and I have a set of virgos on it right now. They fit no problems. The calipers fit out in the rim quite well. I painted the calipers red and you can see them really well. my car does not have abs.

So its been confirmed that virgos wont fit on late 760's due to ABS. My question now is, would older 740/760 non-abs calipers work on later 760's without any major modification and a dangerous amount of braking power lost? And if these fit that would make it possible to put virgos on a late 760? Just something that popped into my head after reading this and thinking about almost fighting 240Psycho in the junkyard over some virgos

I'll say :bs: to that I'm able to tell the difference of Vigros and Dracos

I'm 100% sure it wasn't dracos because they didn't have lug covers and I know the guy with the car who has them so we compared the wheels side by side.

The edge(lip) wasn't as deep as the one I had on my 242 and they seemed to have more space for the brakecalipers.

yeah, there were many 'replica' wheels in the 80's. IPd had 14" Draco's in the catalog for several years.

The 14" replica Dracos I've seen looks almost like the 240 type, and they came in different colors. I've seen them in silver, grey and grey with the outside of the spokes machined (they are great for winter tires)

There are also differences in the "240 type" but only in the finish.

The "740 type" I've seen was original on the car.
