you have to plumb fuel lines and install spark plugs into your exhasut.
CoconutColin
03-09-2004, 01:19 PM
so okay.. you need a another fuelinjector and another fuel pump?? or take away from the engine? how would you get oxygen?

Thats what I am trying to figure out. :???:
I am trying to get more info on it.

I think it would be awesome

I believe it gets it oxygen outside the tailpipe. You probably would want the burn to start inside the pipe. I might get a little hot. Look at any torch for inspiration. Or just run it lean.

You don't need to plumb fuel lines, you just need the spark plugs. Then you choke the crap out of the engine. Listen to that thing, it has a horrible miss when the flames get going.
I had to build a go kart for a class last year and we decided to put a flamethrower on it. We used a model T coil and a single plug mounted towards the end of the tailpipe. We just pulled the choke on the poor little Briggs & Stratton and put power to the coil and would get 4-5 foot flames. The kart wasn't all that fast, but it had some cool stuff!

my car doesnt have a choke its fuel injected!!!

Up the fuel pressure. Run extra injectors. Figure out a way to run it rich. That is why it is running black smoke before it gets going.

You can buy complete kits (don't know where.. search the web) that let you do this. 3 problems that I see w/ doing it:
1. It's deff. illegal
2. Burn marks on your car
3. Destroys your muffler
Would be cool a hell on a blacked out 244 :-P .
I think I've also seen something like this done w/ propane. Not very practical.

I am not really conserned about practicle on this one, but it will be sweet.

definitely propane....that would be awesome making like 6 foot flames hahaha, might help in traffic....
edit: why stop at flames------> napalm thrower from the tailpipe...

I read about a kit for this in my barber shop... It would definitly be sweet to have, however as previously stated, is very illegal.

in your tail pipe past the muffler, drill a hole and screw in a spark plug,
run juice to it and put a toggle to control when its on and you'll make big enough flames to be cool

The problem is that the cat converter cleans up most of the unused fuel that you would burn.

man do away with the cat. just run a straight pipe through, using the cat housing as a "dummy" cat converter

then remove it when u don'thave smog .. and when u have to be smoged swap the cat back on ... that way the one cat will last forever since it will get like 20 miles of driving every 2 years

You could try something like this
http://home.no.net/nnon/images/flamethrower.JPG
I've seen similar devices like this, I would guess that you need to fit the sparkplug near the end of the exaustpipe.
I'm NOT 100% :e-shrug: sure this will work, but it might be wort a try.
You might also want some device to adjust the fuel.

You would only kick it on when you want, not drive all the time like that.
Or get a MSD box with a rev limiter, mine shoots a pretty damn good (and LOUD) flame when I hit my spark limiter.
Pours fuel through the cat, explodes through the muffler = fireball

I already have a controller that will control the firing order for 2 coils and plugs. I think the hardest part is going to be fuel delivery. I have 2 nitrous foggers that I plan to use to get the fuel vaporized. I think that I will tap off of the return line and have an inline fuel pump to pump the fuel thru the foggers.
I figure that I will use the cheapest coils I can find that are 12 volt for spark and mount them in the rear bumper.
I want to get the tailpipes extended out from behind the bumper by a couple of inches and I would like to make something to hide the plugs and foggers.

you can get a kit for a 100 bucks.it uses propane. the kits are easy and you dont have to worry about jacking it up, but its real simple to make one. the supplies
an electric switch like out of a buzzer or alarm clock as long as it turbs on and off on its own.
a coil
and a spark plug
you hook the switch up to the battery then hook the switch to the coil(the swtich acts like a distributer) the the coil to a spark plug, mount the plug about 12 inches back from the end of the exhaust. and there you go, you turn on the switch and bam you have spark. then just mount a nozzle about 5-6 inches behind the spark plug then run a line to a el cheapo propane bottle. twist open the valve and then you got flamible gas. run the two together and you got flames spitten out the back.just make sure you always have the engine reved up nicely before you spark the gas or you might get a big boom and damage will be done.

instead of out the rear use the sides, more impressive, and will hide the parts. use a micro switch with the switch you have. a for raw eng fuel, the size would be to small, you also run a chance of fuel puddling. tee it of the main feed, if you want flames when you open up, your return flow will be reduced by the drop in vac, also its hotter, use the highest psi pump you can find, since thats what determines length. nos foggers are right. if using the tee run two solinoids (gas), in case one leaks as overkill safety. only use braided ss lines, like nos lines, the heat will kill anything else. i would also install a ove way valve(overkill again). start by using a .28 jet in the fogger, set about 1' in front of plugs. also buy a fire extingisher please. with that and a 265 rear washer set-up, spraying bleach on the rear wheels and you'll be set.

It's an old hot rodders trick. Put a spark plug in the exhaust and fire it off without the car running.

Reading this ive decided to do it.. I have a spare sparkplug and a spare coil.. and its wired to the battery.. I have SPARK.. how do i get gas there?

oh god, how easily i could do this, all i need is a sparkplug and, i've got the extra coil, and bam! we got fire, BUT i don't reall want the fire going back up into my engine bay, considering my whole really open downpipe "problem."

use a flex line, your ex vibrates, any connections on a hard line will loosen and/or crack spraying fuel everywhere (ex pipe hot + fuel = buy a fire extingisher).

split of at an angle right before the rear wheels. all parts on back side, w/ good sized tip (flamed?) will hide all.

you should have the car running, while gunning it pref. to give dir and add distance.

only add it in a straight section, it will collect in bends and mufflers. read the other posts by blown and myself on the details.
as for propane, same flame, just more crap to carry around, and refill.

ive seen propane kits for it.
and ive seen cars with no cat converter with a sparkplg conected to the end of the exhaust, just flip a switch connected to the sparkplug and any unburned fuel will light up like a torch. ive seen it on many cars. my brother's friend's 'hearse' heas flaming tailpipes. and thats how hes running it.
