Well, I have been on this forum for over a year. When I joined I was as noob as a noob can be. I have now grown my first pube and accomplished my first mechanical mission - transmission swap. (I installed the big intercooler a few months ago, which was a lot of work, but I don't count that). I bought this wagon last fall in Vancouver as it was going for a great price and it had a few goodies to go with it. The worst part about it was the fact that it had an automatic transmission (a personal dislike of mine, it's just not driving when you are on a windy road without heel toe!) She sat in the garage for the winter while I was at university, and I acquired the necessary info and parts for the swap in spring. Full time manual labour between then and now hindered progress, but cancelling my trip home to europe due to Jay-Z's 100th problem :roll: gave me the free time to do this. I will admit I would not have been able to do this without my dad's watch, but I did 90% of the work myself, probably why it took me a week to do!
After completing the swap, we sanded, primered and painted the hood and roof to make her a little more appealing. The paint gun we used was not the best but I am satisfied for the time being. It's just so nice to have her back on the road again.
It's not a big thing for a lot of you guys who have done this and some many many times, but there is a great sense of satisfaction in going from A-B with this.
The most swear words were muttered while installing the pedal box in my wagon..there is not much room! The heater ducts and wiring get right in the way. We also figured out that getting the tranny shaft into the crank was easier when the gearbox is rotated off center...after a few bruises that is.
Less banter, more pictures.

Here is the 1985 parts wagon I got for $300 and drove home. Strong engine but the body was one big rust hole.

The land rover? That's one of my dad's, he is a landrover fiend. It's an air light portable, 1970's, dropped from aicraft via parachute!
I thought my license plate catch an eye on here.
BTW good job on the gt, after I first saw the overspray madness I was shocked, but now it looks quite acceptable (not my colour choice tho!)

Looks good and congrats on your first big job. :)

Just an FYI, if your M46 came out of a normally aspirated car and your using it with a turbo engine. The turbo version M46 uses higher hydraulic pressure for more holding power. You can change the pressure to be the higher pressure for more holding power in the overdrive. Or you can leave it alone and just take it easy when in overdrive. You'll probably be fine but it is something to be aware of.

Some people in the UK are still on 56k modem, as are many others I am sure. Broadband is used nigh on everywhere in NA, but not globally, yet.
Thanks for the heads up about OD dl.
