Okay, so before I start, don't flame me for a picture post, blah blah blah, this is more a product review. I've had AMAZING results on both cars I've used it on, and will be picking up another bottle (or two!) when this one runs out!
I used autoglym 'vinyl and rubber care'
Before; (mirrors, window trim, side trim, bumpers, beltline trim, wiper arms, etc...)

After;

And it's super easy, spray it on (has a pump) and just rub it in with a rag. Keep it off glass, it'll make a greasy mess. :(
FYI, all these photos are taken on the same setting with the same camera.
Anyone had any similar experiences?

looks good!
the 740 i'm picking up has gray almost white trim on it....i'm definitely gonna have to pick up a bottle of something like this
Anything can look good right after applying it, I want to see pics after a week.

Buddy, I had people telling me that the 89' era 240's ALWAYS had grey side trim at the bottom of the doors - and I just blindly believed it. Made sense, every one I'd seen was like that.
Well, the rear bottom trim at the trunk was black. The car was in a rear end hit, but even so, it shouldn't have been hard enough to replace it on both sides
So I decided to try it, figured worst case scenario it just would make it a better grey.
No, night and day difference. I think the 740's front bumpers like you're talking about are made out of the same rubber/plastic. It'll make it look AMAZING.
I got $2500 for that 240. Full asking price for an 89' 240DL with 252,000 kilometres and body damage on the right rear. I spent a day detailing it, it was time well spent!

Fair enough.
The 240 in the after shot is about, 5 days?
I'll post up a photo of the 940 soon if you like. Or when I go to hand off my old 240's car alarm manual I'll take a shot of it after I sold it over a month ago.

Yeah I've heard, but I got this for free (won it as part of a prize package at a volvo club raffle)
Autoglym makes some really nice stuff, I've used their spraypaints as well with exceptional results.
Have you used mothers back to black? any before/after shots?

linseed oil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linseed_oil) works GREAT as well!
apply a thin layer and wipe it off again, maybe repeat for a few times and it will hold up for a long time (year+++ depending on the amount of fading the trim had). Just don't let thick layers of it dry up on bodywork or the trim, it can leave a nasty sticky mess.
Even faded valve cover paint and other engine stuff looks better with it and it holds up great (did the timing belt cover once and its still great after 18 months).
Krylon Fusion for the permanant fix.
have to agree here much better then the back to black, I sparyed one of trims with it, reflection came out perfect match to other peaces I have that black with high gloss, and after a week of sitting outside the florida sun and rain I checked it again yesturday and the shine is still true as if I just sprayed it. Gonna do the whole car once its washed and waxed after the work is done on it.

Forever black works very well and holds up wash after wash. The finish stays nice for about 6-8 months in harsh climates.

yeah I tried all those methods and I have to say that the Krylon Fusion stuff works best, the finish looks the best as it has a gloss shine to it rather than a matted uneven black look with other solutions.
It's a little more work though as you would need to prep it and really clean the crap off the bumper before spraying, but it has a permanent result.

Rained last night.
Happy to report that it looks to be relatively okay so far! We'll see though.

Looks nice, but eww, paint your rocker panel body color. That's how mine came new:

Actually Gabe, that's the rocker trim molding from a V90.
It's painted the metallic-y grey like the rear wiper. You can tell the difference in person, but in photos the big giveaway is that you can't see my jack mounting points.

Whoops, now that you pointed that out, I see
I saw alot of those at the salvage. I had always thought about pulling a set and painting body color, but never got around to it. I've always loved how the late model 960s look as far as body trim goes.

yeah, that stuff is very oozy and oily. it sucks on tires, actually. for tire wet, i go with meguiar's hot shine, in the SPRAY can..not the bottle stuff.
and yes, i have used back to black, on my 944. i haven't taken any pictures when i've used it, but i'm going to give the 944 a wash this week, and i'll apply some and snap a picture or two.

Yeah I agree.
Personally, I like the look of this car. I sorta' dig the black. Painting the bumpers to match the body I think would be a mistake... Mirrors etc... I think I might pick the V90 metalic-y grey colour if I ever get around to repainting this car. As it is, I'm happy with the look.:)

Does harsh climate includes Hot and Humid all year long, with torrential tropical rain and 32 C everyday?
I tried using this sort of bumper shine before, didn't work for me, it faded off days later...
Thinking of spraying matt black paint on it...

no. i wouldnt use it, either. ive used that stuff on grilles and random interior bits in my 944, and it didnt hold well. ive tried different methods of applying it too, the stuff just doesnt hold well to wear, especially weather and/or scuffs, etc.
you can essentially scrape the paint right off with your finger nail.

i really like SEM trim paint for bumpers and "shadowlining" trim and what not. really holds up nicely if you prep as directed on the can

You do have to clean it before applying.
FUSION in satin and gloss black holds up the best compared to any paint I've tried on plastics. Don't use it on rubber parts that can be mistaken for plastic.
I used it on bumpers, trim, almost everything. It holds and wears like a champ.
Also Krylon is paying me big bucks to endorse their product. :-P

any kind of cooking oil works well, veg, peanut, olive.
Veg is best because it dont smell and its the cheapest.
just wipe it down well so dust dont stick to it.

Ive used this http://www.duplicolor.com/products/trim.html Works pretty well. Loks very textured when going on, but dries very smooth with an even semi-flat look. Painted my bumper cover in teh stuff on my 245 and the headlight doors and grill on my 242. Loos awsome, only issue is when it gets wet, it spots real bad if ya dont dry it

So update
The spots where all the water drains off the car - i.e. the bottom front spoiler on the sides near the wheel wells, some spots where it puddled on top, etc... didn't hold up well. I'm pretty confident a second application paying close attention to those spots will help, and I'll do that during our next string of warm weather (this week) - not helping was that it rained heavily the evening a few hours after it was applied, as well as the next two days on and off.

Yeah, it looks great... for a while. Mine is all streaky now.
I want to pull the bumpers, clean them, paint (or whatever) them and be done with it for a while.
So what's the verdict on the Krylon? Gloss, matte or flat?
