I think it's perfect. It's Swedish performance meets two-lane blacktop with a touch of American Graffiti. You rule.

Damn, that looks slick but I'd stick with blackwalls. The whites push it a bit to close to lowrider territory. I am super jealous. Can't wait till you get a 122

Haha great movie. My mom made me watch it when she discovered my Volvo wasn't stock anymore.
As for the wheels, I like it. That red/white really contrasts the black, which is cool.

are you taking this too far?
i dunno. its becoming more of a gangster mobile that looks to me like you could do some driveby shootings out of, but its all in the eye of the beholder! i would say yes, tho... good luck. later

Pisco, he's going for a vintage look, blackwalls are too modern for that.
I say DO IT!!!!

Reminds me of when Marty had to slap some whitewall tires on the Time Machine in Back to the Future III

You can get PortaWalls (inserts) for 16", not sure about 17", so you don't have to go with crap tires.
I've thought about using whitewalls on my red 63 544 Volvo, and keeping modern name-brand performance radials on it. Adds to the sleeper effect...

Looks PERFECT! Fifties style theme goes great with the flat black, flames and white walls....GO FOR IT!

I prefer the Moon discs. They were the rage in the late 50s. The painted rims, small caps, whitewall look was from the 40s and early 50s.
In High School, if someone pissed you off, you went out to the parking lot and kicked in his Moon discs. :-) THAT was UGLY! :-(

What's next, a flathead? I kind of think you are taking it too far, it looks really cool the way it is. Save yourself the trouble and go get your '49 Ford already.

I think some 17" steelies would look cool... blend of new and old... like your car.

Definately not too far if you're going for a vintage look.
I think the old Volvo 444/544/122 steelies w/ hubcaps look would great, maybe get them widened a little.

That's the extra bit of detail that makes me think you're gonna pull up with a tommy gun and spray up the place.

I like it man...Although when you had the moon discs on there it reminded me of this Motorcycle company I heard of called EXILE ...They make these really clean looking black and brushed stainless themed bikes...

But the red is nice and It's original...
well,
i was looking at building a resto-mod type 122 and i had planned on getting 16-17" steel wheels from Stockton Wheel Company in Stockton California. the price was definatly reasonable - and the wheels would be a copy of the volvo wheel that i supplied as a template complete with chrome bueaty rings and they would accept the stock center cap!
:-D
please, please do not use 14" steelies!

niiiice! now you know your car is screaming for only one side of lakewood side-pipes, passengerside only, and mainly cause of no V8 and such. it's lookin' awesome! keep up the good work.
matt.
p.s.- it's a battle between you and mean over on cardomain, for the 240 with the most pictures.

Tow Lane Blacktop...excellent, it is sitting on my shelf as we speak... :x:
I like the look. There is a guy here who is driving a 50s chevy i want to say, black with silver steelies, and 2 red steelies on the back that were given with the car. Look sick!
