OK guys...heres one for the weird department, I've got a very nice front IPD Sway all ready to go on as I put the front suspension back in my 122. So I get the bar in place and it doesn't fit. Here's the bar, looks like a bloody IPD 122 sway to me (28mm of fun).

Here's the bar fitted, with the brackets all the way forward so I have as much clearance as possible.

Is it possible that this is a 140 bar instead of a 122? The distance from the center of the endlink to the center of the bar where it turns is 12".

Thoughts? The bottom of the bar will hit the crossmember at fullish drop (ie before full drop).

Could be an 1800 bar,most 140 IPD's are 25.4

Edit;
Measured the 25.4 140 front bar,and it's 7" from the center of the
hole to the center of the bend.
Different shape altogether, more drop in the center,
and the lever arm is a 7" straight run.
I can pull a tape on the 28mm 1800 front bar tomorrow
if you want.

The 140 bar has a dink in the middle to clear the crank pulley. I'd agree with Ken that this is probably an 1800 one.

Put it on Ebay and offer to ship it to the UK- should make some money on it.

The bar on my 122 has a downward bump in the middle section between the two front mounts

I found a picture from when I rebuilt the suspension, its enough that you can see that the 122 bar doesn't have the kink near the end link like yours does. Did you paint it to match your crossmember? That's not a color ipd bars came in is it?

What springs are those?

Thanks a bunch for this photo...it shows the problem very well. Maybe it is an 1800 bar (it did come off a 123, but I didn't pull it so I don't know if it was hooked up). I did paint it to match the rest of my suspension...there is rather a lot of that going on in my car. I'm going to make some adapter brackets to get the clearance I need.

What I was thinking was that I could get some 1/4 plate and drill a set of offset holes to locate the bar about 1" forward of where it is now. Then I could attach the mounting screws from the back. Something like this,

The springs are 250-500 lb/in progressives from VPD.

Will it clear if you drop it down?
Offsetting it will work, but will require more substantial brackets.

Clearance is not an issue and I just got some 3/8" thick plate...should do the trick.

I've still got no idea why the bar is not the right size...had several measurements and all appear to be the same. No reason why this won't work on my car. It appears to be a 122 bar, but may be for the 1800. IPD are relatively useless with e-mail requests and I didn't have time to call. They probably don't care as the bar was used.

Here's my solution.

The adapter is made out of 3/8" plate and is plenty strong.

Here we are with the bar in.

It's closer than it looks, The washer on the endlink comes very close to hitting the cross member but just misses. That should do the trick.

I absolutely LOVE the new IPD bar color :)

Thanks, it actually scares me a little. With the heavier springs up front it's a lot of bar. We'll see how she handles. I'd be glad if I could just drive the damn thing.

It looks really clean. I'd love to drive it too lol

Nice work. I'm sure it will be fine, but remember to keep an eye on that mount for flexing.

Call Cameron at iPd (he's on the board here too)
Easy to reach, will give you a straight answer as well.

Yeah I've been getting a lot of oversteer, but I haven't installed the rear bar yet so I'm hoping that solves it. KG Trimming's bars are 22mm front and 18mm rear as opposed to IPD's 28mm-19mm I'm beginning to think they are too much.

Ya, with stock springs, the 28mm bar would be fine, but my springs are considerably stiffer than stock. I've got the rear bar in place and we should see how it all works in a couple of weeks.
