The host decided last night to surprise us with a MySQL database upgrade (to the latest secure version) which our hacked board code didnt work with.
So i grabbed whatever i could get to install from phpbb so at least we'd have something up.
The plan:
I've been planning a board upgrade and redesign for a while now, it was to be next inline after the new site is uploaded. My plans are to use vBulletin which is a fully supported, streamlined version of board code thats faster, more efficient, and has all the plug-ins/features we've grown to love that i've "hacked" into our board.
The software is $160 for ownership. I would like to take this time for everyone to take a look at the raw version of it here: http://www.vbulletin.com and im sure many of you frequent boards running this software in any number of designs. One of the best forums i read runs this software, the versatility of it is amazing and i believe its something I/we want.
I will be purchasing the code as soon as i can financially, however your donations will help out immensely.
My personal PayPal address is drool@saliv8.com and I will be more then happy to send stickers out as a thanks.
Thanks guys for your patience, you are all wonderful members.

asp.net runs on the lunix. theres some group out there that has it running on apache but its slow... its not a port, they completely re-did everything. Microsoft said they are going to make an asp.net port to apache but i dunno about that.

Even though you said you would put in $100, I think the rest of the board should try and chip that $100 down a bit.

You guys have met your end of the deal, so im going to go ahead and buy it today and start setting it up so we can get started.

Where are the blue squares, who indicates wich topics I have partisipatet/ hijacked :-) / etc. etc.?
I dont know s*** :e-shrug: about making a forum, but I suppose they disapered as a result of the new design of the forum.
I miss  them they did it easy to se if there was any replies in the topics I had posted in.
Will they come back or isn't it possible?
I'll probably don't find this post again either :-P

are you referring to the little arrows to the left of your posts that show you that you've got an answer :e-shrug:
what I like now is that you get all your posts, not only 50...
I noticed the aimchat button on the index.php seems to have dissapeared along with our avatars. and the forum likes to puke up lots of errors when you try and upload a new one ;)

No the lightblue squares behind the icon like http://forums.turbobricks.com/templates/subSilver/images/folder_new_big.gif this!

yeah guys, its all reverted back to "pre hacks" since all the hours of work i did getting the stuff we loved didnt work when they upgraded the server.
The new board will have all the cool stuff as i can get to them. In its stock form it will have an icon for the posts your replied in. I think it will also track which "new" threads you actually read too... which i personally cant stand in phpBB when you click on a link to another thread, opens in a new window and manages to mark the board as "read". or when your browser crashes and you come back to the board and its all marked "read". :grrr:
anyways, www.vbulletin.org has lots of mods, we'll be starting with vB 3.0.0 RC4 and upgrading from there. Should be simple enough. I spent a few hours yesterday reading through all the manuals and hacks on there (still havent found my favorite "mouse-over preview topic" hack that has been working on a 3.0 board, but it will be soon i suspect.
I'll keep you all updated.
I'll install vB and get it all working smoothly, then start changing it over to the turbobricks layout. Would you guys like brand new icons and buttons with the new board? or would you like to use these ones?

I agree!
Dana: I'm still good for the 20, but my bank transfer is processing on paypal... :grrr:
will the "new style" allow us direct posting for pics? I'd rather give the $23/yr to this board than pbase...

K guys, got the latest, almost full release installed and running on here... i'll try and go through and configure it tonight after the gym.
Some cool features we have all been asking for that look like they're already part of the new board code:
user reputations - guessing this would solve the pos/neg seller feedback dilema? :x:
quick search - form box right at the top makes it easy to just go grab em all... doesnt look like theres a limit either for those that hated the 50 limit on phpBB
customer user titles - i'll probably make this as an option for those that donate
and theres a bunch more... im loving the admin options already, cant wait to get this thing converted
Yes, theres an option of image attachments, it would kill our bandwidth but i'd be willing to try it out.. maybe registered only can use it, and make sure they dont link off the site? we'll see. definitely something to play with
oh yeah, theres also a nift hack so your signatures only display 1 time (first post) in a thread... and i believe theres an option in your profile (control panel in vB) to turn off sigs or sig images.
I'll let you guys know how it goes tonight, need to figure out how to get the phpBB import script to work on vB 3.0 :???:

yes i have accurate records for everyone who has donated through our new system (the old ezboard stuff garrett has). Anything we do that would require additional funds are all based on a point system... so dont worry doug, you've got some "points" in your bucket.
Front page is done, feature cars are 80% completed (remember i have to go back and rewrite all the old winners articles).
Anyways, we'll play with all that once the new boards working.

However, I will be asking that people go through their PM's and delete sent receipts and ones that no longer need. Im also going to say for the safe side, move all PM's to the Inbox from your saved folder.

yeah, we wont lose anything... but some things may be difficult to convert... the things in concerned with: threads, usernames/passwords, dates and post counters, search terms (that one im worried about), and private messages.
everything else isnt important, but im hoping it will convert as well. again, the data i will save and possibly load on my home server for safe keeping while we move things around.
