Hello all,
After asking some questions in the performance section I was pointed this way..
Basically I currently have a UK 1988 Volvo 240 with a B230F block and K-Jet injection.
Im looking into a turbo or supercharger conversion and the powers that be suggest megasquirt is the easiest route.
Now forgive my ignorance but as I understand it Megasquirt would replace my current K-Jet system with me programming the MS Ecu? This I get but what other things would I require and where can I source them from (obviously aside from the turbo/supercharger side of things)
Ideally things I can find here in the UK are a bonus! Also it was suggested I just change blocks to a 7/9 series turbo. I believe my block was originally from a 7 series and it was recently rebuilt hence my keeness to keep it and add to it rather than replace it.
So please add a shopping list of parts i'll need to complete my conversion to MS inj.
Thanks
Joe

Check out the Article Composition subforum. There are only a few pages of threads, search through them for a minute and you will find a few megasquirt threads. Those should give you everything you need as far as a shopping list and installation guide. Also google "megamanual" it has everything you need as far a shopping list, install, and tuning.

Hi, you will need:
megasquirt (duh)
4 x injectors (buy some high-z preferrably, as then dutycycle is no hassle)
1 x intake from an efi car (b230f?) with fuel rail, etc.
amm or inlet air temp sensor (gm IAT?)
then you also need either VR or HALL and I guess you can do the EDIS path, since you dont have the 60-2 I think?

You have some work ahead of you, but it's far from impossible and I think you potentially will gain a lot.
Oh, also.. knocksenseMS from boris and a wideband controller (jaw?) + LSU wbo2 sensor is needed for tuning. You also need an old laptop and a base msq which I guess is no problems aqquiring on the forums here.

Thanks gents, couple of follow up questions...
Im thinkning of LH intake manifold and fuels rail from a 7 series 2.3. Any other bits I would need from the donor?
Any suggestions of injector makes or models that will fit the intended manifold?
Inlet air temp sensor is straight forward enough
As for VR or HALL and EDIS not got a clue what you mean i'm afraid!
Also on my list is a TPS from a 850 and a wideband o2 sensor.
Anything im missing (obviously megasquirt too!)

Use the injectors from a turbocharged 850 or S70 to get you started
Your car has a hall sensor in the distirbutor used to trigger the ignition,
LH 2.4 cars use a VR sensor that does the same thing,it just reads holes in the edge of the flywheel. EDIS is Ford's version of distributorless ignition.

Cool cheers for that, the shopping list isn't anywhere near as scary as I thought. Using say 850 injectors and other above bits how much boost could I run before an uprated fuel pump was required or is it worth just adding that to the list. My plands involve somewhere in the region of 10-12psi boost as a starting point but as per usual I fully expct myself to want more later on!

850 turbo uses 30 lb/hr injectors, that should let you run 14-15 psi,The K-jet fuel pump will serve you well for now.

yes, its not very expensive..
If you buy the parts wisely, you can end up with a PIMPED UP ms for about 500-1000$, that's including everything like WBO2, WBO2 controller, MSII ecu++ also new sensors, IAT, etc.

I know it's not free, but.. if you buy like haltech e6x, you get only the ECU for the same price.. Also then you have to pay extra for a autotune feature, you have to pay extra for boost control, etc. :P So the Haltech E6X at MS 3 or 3.57 with MSII ecu and some small wiring will cost maybe 2000$ vs 500-1000$ in the MS.

I was thinking about the E6X, untill I realised how limited it is out of the box.
