31x12x3 wont fit in the stock location without alot of cutting ,the 24x12x3 fit damn near perfect with only a little modification of the top bracket on the oil cooler for me, sorry no pics of the install tho :(

^i thought 31 inch ICs would fit ( not 31 inch cores, but overall 31 inch overall length)

I have the 31" wide (total) installed in my 744. I had to cut some stuff out to get it to fit, but if you have a 90+ or have a skinny efan this is unnecessary. Pics at www.eric-o.com under 744.

Just get one and shove it in there. Its not going to be any easier by looking at millions of bad pictures on Turbobricks. The best way to learn is to jump in and do it with something like this. Its just a matter of actually getting it in there. Not everyone one of us is going to mount it exactly the same, so its difficult to make any real "instructions" on how to do this.

thnx for the pics matt.. i'm wondering.. did the radiator move back at all due to the install?

i still have a clutch fan so im kinda worried about clearance if it did move back. (i have an e-fan in the garage..but stupid me didn't friggin take the relay with the friggin efan when i pulled it from a JY 940)

my pics are of a 4inch, not a 3 inch. and it only moves the radiator back perhaps an inch an inch to inch and half. but to each their own! npr is a direct drop in or near enough and you can certainly buy it on ebay;-)

yes, the radiator gets pushed back, enough that you must use an efan. i used a chrysler lebaron efan from a 1990 lebaron 3.0 v6. i highly recommend using this fan, it is quiet, flows a lot of air, is extremely thin and does not draw much current. it is also a guaranteed fit on older 700's with the 24x12x3 ebay intercooler.

i had the fan installed before i did the intercooler, installing the intercooler literally took 12 mins when i did it.

09-14-2008, 01:56 PM
the npr has always been a direct fit, this is how you do it for the ebay intercooler into the stock location. if you use a chrysler efan it won't matter which radiator you have, a 3" thick ebay intercooler will fit.

ah, so 24" IC with 18" core for me it is then..since, as i mentioned, i'd rather not hack into my SE kit for an FMIC, and i don't want to have my radiator pushed back in the classic "v" position. nice and clean for me, i'll start searching for this size..or find something of NPRs that is around the same dimensions.

F1reBird
09-21-2008, 03:03 PM
so..i CANNOT find a 24x12x3 intercooler on fleabay :wtf:

when i search 24x3x12 it shows me intercoolers with core lengths of 24 ( so overall of 30.5)

then when i search 18x3x12 it lists intercoolers that are 18inches OVERALL (11inch core)

im confizzled

so i've given up hope for the ebay intercoolers.. i've been reading around and from what i figured there are 2 NPR intercoolers.. one that is a direct drop in fit ( the smaller one?) and one that takes a bit more modifying( the big one?)

does anyone know the overall dimensions of the NPR IC( as in..which one is the direct fit and how big is it)

i finally got around to measuring the stock one out.. ( no i still haven't gotten an Ebay IC yet) and i'm having uber doubts about even the 25x12x3 one fitting with the stock airbox and evap in place. stock one looks like its 2.5 inches wide.. the ebay one is 3". the over all length of the ebay one ( even the 25") looks like the turbo to the elbow to the IC hose setup would hit the airbox and basically not fit at all.

i'm figuring the only way i'm going to be able to fit this thing is to get a cone, and install the E-fan

I have a NPR in my 780 and had to mod the rubber bottom brackets and not use the rubber on the top brackets.
The piping was easy. Everything on the hot side is factory but the cold side only used the factory rubber parts with aftermarket hard piping.

I am looking to get an IC in before Carlisle.
I have removed the stock airbox and am using a taskmule heatshield/cone setup...which eBay IC will be the 'close to direct fit' model allowing me to still use my belt driven fan?
I can't find anything searching on eBay..it seems the verdict is that the 'direct fit' size is 24x12x3?

Neither do I, LT was saying that using the 600x300x70mm cooler without a condenser will fit if you have elbows welded onto the IC instead of using connectors? I'll be removing my condensor but hopefully won't need to touch my airbox as that makes the car able to be defected easier.

so what's the thing on the not shiney silver part of the cold side in the picture? Maybe it's not part of the charge pipe...hard to tell, could be behind the cold charge. It's got a brassy look.

3" works with belt driven fan

If you install it like those guys, seems like a 4" would work too.

Some details on what all is going on here. I'm hoping my engine bay looks that good once I get done with my +ti

Feel free to chuck me a PM if there is anything you wish to ask regarding my setup.

so...24x12x3 or 31x12x3? I think 31 inches is way too long and might make it hard to use the oil cooler in that location as well as my taskmule shield..

To use a 31 you have to move the oil cooler back, and you may have to trim the taskmule shield. If you don't want to do that, get a 24x12x3.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but not enough here to start a new one.

I just put in a 24x12x3 eBay intercooler that I had planed on using in on my Mustang. The thing really does just slip in for the most part. The oil cooler had to moved but only slightly. The worst part was sacrificing the stock air box. I still am running the mechanical fan. There is still enough clearance for anyone who want to know. Still I think I will go with an electric when money allows.

I also need to do something. My ultimate goal is to be able to use something as close to stock dimensions as possible.

I tried the NPR, I honestly did. But it just didn't fit the way I wanted it to. I'm going to ditch it in favor of something else. For the moment, I have the stock IC installed. Nissens HD rad with stock shroud with 940 fan installed.

The fan is about as close to the pulley as I'd like it to be so if there is anything out there ICwise that I can use.

I'm thinking 24-27" overall by 12-15" by 2-2.5". Assuming that anything aftermarket will flow better then stock.

I'm going to start looking on ebay, but if there's anything anyone else could recommend or voice an opinion on I'd really like to hear it.

This is what I did (together with a lot bigger radiator). It's a 31x12x3 ebay ic:

lets see em!

mainly i'm looking for ebay intercoolers installed in the STOCK location ( between the evap and radiator) thinking about getting a 31x12x3 for the 760 but i wanna see how some of you guys installed/ fitted it.

I bought an NPR intercooler off of ebay for about hundred dollars. Its about the same size as a volvo intercooler but way more better. Its about 3" core aand with very little work fits fine in front of my radiator. And believe me when you get it you'll be happy you did. Believe it or not, the damn thing lists for about $1,400 from Izuzu. Its built like an item meant for a military vehicle. The upper and lower tanks are very thick aluminium and the necks just as thick. You won't have to worry about crushing them if you have to really tighten the hose clamps. I had installed mine on my 1987 760 and I had a bigger turbo installed and with the large intercooler installed you could really feel the improved throttle response. If you can't find one on ebay call Tom's truck repair and wrecking in Orange County, California. I'm sure he probably has a few. Best Power, Ed
