I don't know if this should be in showroom.. but it is styling related.
Now, winter is coming and I'm prepping the 244. I have free 205/55/16 snow tires to use from the girlfriends car, since she'll be driving a Volvo this winter instead of the sunflower .
So.. I want to find some 16" wheels to make use of them. I saw kammer's car, and though the steelies looked hawt.

(hope you don't mind me borrowing the image!)
But I think your wheels are 15"
I found these on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1-99-08-Volvo-60-70-80-16-OEM-Steel-Wheel-Rim_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43956QQihZ002QQitem Z120304219379QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

I think these are similar in 16". Are they only available as "spare's"? Are they as beefy as a full time steel wheels? Does anyone know where I could get a set of 4?

I was just about to ask the same question. Saw that "spare" on ebay too. What car are those steelies from in the first picture. Does anyone have any other suggestions on wide(r) steel wheels for rwd?

S80 has 16" 7J wide steelies.

I got the set of 4 at a local wrecking yard. They look to be the standard steel wheel for the 740 and 240. If you go to Les Scwhab and other places. They sell a 15" steel wheel with et25 offset. Someone just painted these silver. I like them alot. I'm considering sending them to Stockton wheels because they can upsize them for around $100 per wheel. They can only go up one size. So, you can't take a 14" steelie and make it a 16", however 15" to 16" should be no problem.

Do you know if they look similar to the ones kammer has? For some reason I really like that style of steel wheel. I'd be painting them silver for sure.

Yes, I think they do. Lots of small round holes in the wheel like krammers wheels have.

Oh that would be amazing.. My spacers aren't in use during winter since all the big wheels don't have snows. That means I could toss on spacers and rock teh S80 steels.
Now.. I just need to find a set.

I'm going the "larger steelies" route as well, although I'm doing it in a roundabout sort of way. I had bought some 5x108 > 5x100 adapters for a set of 17x8 Borbets I was going to put on the wagon, but unfortunately the Borbets didn't come through. I still wanted to use the adapters, so I looked around to see the cheapest option I could find while still rockin' some style. I was a big fan of steelies in my VW days, so I used my hookups to get a set of 16x7 "new beetle" steelies for pennies. I'm just waiting for my low-pro rubber to arrive, then they're going on!
Pics will follow, of course ;)

Thanks for the pics Geoff, I've been thinking of some cheap winter wheels to pick up. Maybe I'll hit the yard tomorrow and see what's there for really cheap. So 740's have 15" steelies? Hummmm. Powdercoated white or black, they might not look too bad.

I'm gonna keep checking this thread in hopes that people post up more steelies. I'm in the midst of brainstorming ideas for a paintjob, which will more than likely be accompanied by a wheel switch from the virgo's and I'm looking to go with some steelies. I have seen a set on a beige(?) 244 that were black and looked pretty wide, which is exactly what I'm going for.
I really like the looks of those Peugeot's. How wide are those??

Okay even with the huge tires, that 245 looks awesome. Sort of winter utility mode. I like the stance! And the white car looks great with the glossy black wheels! I'm still trying to decide between white or black... I think white would be a little too "hey look at me". I would do silver, but I don't have a really nice silver powder.

Black, trust me. They look sick in black.

Thanks, you're in the minority :). Black steelies on a dark car give that utilitarian look, definitely (what I was going for). I think silver steelies would give it more style.

There's a V8 powered 242 in Sweden, it's dark blue, can't remember the site for it, but runs widened steelies on the rear and stock width on the front, with the hubcaps like mine.

Arg, I'm afraid I might be paying $50 each for 16" steelies. I don't know where else I can find em though!

I thought I read that they were S80 spare tire wheels, widened like crazy. I think they're 17's but they look bigger than that in the pictures.

They look bigger because of the dish.
And I need winter wheels, but 15" won't clear my front brakes (tough life I know)
Still undecided to brave our mild vancouver winter with 17" alloys & falken 912's, or if I should try and stretch my wheel budget and find 16" winter rubber and keep my team dynamics I have now as winter wheels.

Alright to lay the issue to bed I did a lot of searching and found the info on that car. They are definitely Pugeot 407 wheels like Steve posted in the 3rd post, they're 17x7 widened. S80 wheels are 16's, like geoff linked the ebay ad to (which I missed the first time reading through the thread). Here's a link to the 244's build thread, awesome picture show if you can't read swedish (you have to be a member though):

The hubcaps on Vee_Que's car are from a 1980-85 240DL. The two piece caps. Chrome donut, black center cap that pushes in with a "V".

Those steel wheels look like the spare tire is on in my S80, and they must be widened much.
For your information the spare tire in S80 is 125/80/17
