ahh its a fun car ist worth the work.
so this winter it gets the b230 squirter, dono if ill go ms and turbo or spend the $$$ and get the pistons rods and valves to try and make some decent power na. now that i have felt boost in my 244+t its addicting. but the 242 is still faster according to my butt-o-meter, and my friends. soooo yeah its already fall here and soon it gets parked again :-( so i took some pics.
the 200k flattop piston b21 with the 530 head shaved .060 soon to be replaced again...

turbo the 242.
don't get me wrong that the b21 with the carbs is badass, but volvo motors were meant to be turbo.

16v turbo or nothing....
edit
start with 16v NA with the carbs and go from there

nice...i like the R idea on the grill...(if i do it ill give u the credit)
If you are going to stay NA why don't you go 16v? Would actually get up and go then. I think you've dumped too much money on those carbs to just ditch them for a turbo, even though it is the way to go.

I have a pair of 16 v intakes. Here is the problem ... no aggressive(off the shelf) cams available, no header for the 240 available, Ask me how I know.:-P
My 8V carb b230 is fun but the cam I have in it now sacrifices bottom end and the way to make it faster would be even more compression , more head work, etc.
Just goin' turbo and getting it over with for me. My combination has reached the end of my patience...
To the OP ... the car looks sharp.

eh turbos are overrated..i'd say stick with what noone else has and still smoke em. the 850 bumper doesnt look too bad.
Everyone on tb hates anything fwd.(even bumpers)
eh 850 turbos are overrated

Looks great. I think going turbo would be great in the GT. Although I do like the carbs.
FYI, there are off the shelf sport cams for 16V. Enem sells them. Of course with shipping and the weak dollar you'll have to be willing to part with some good money to buy them. But at least you won't have to pay VAT like the folks over there.

Turbos... overrated? Should I skip +T then? :-P
Looks decent, 850 bumper looks a little goofy, I dunno why yet. Maybe because it's so weird/different. Anyway, straighten those Hella fogs out and your 242 looks good.
I didn't know you had a 245...

I'm not feeling the 850 bumper. I like the look in your sig, it's more aggro. Still a good looking car. As far as turbo'ing. I mean, come on. Do I have to say anything? Srsly.

The B21F flattop motor will live on in one of my Volvo's after he gets his B230F(T?) swap done :-D
maybe the lolwagon??
It was awesome to see/ride in the 242GT when I was in WI. It is a very clean car!
Also, keep your intercooler hose clamps tight on the 244DLT.

I'd love to have a set of DCOE's on a nice high compression B21/23. The 16v could be done but if you want more power you will want to turbo that. It's turbo for me.

Why didnt you weld an AN fitting into a B230 valve cover instead?
Anyway, if you do decide to get rid of the weber setup, let me know.

because the b21 valve cover has the metal plate in it so no oil can splash out of the breather hole.

this was free as i can weld better than your average guy, i go to school for it. and yes ill do a 850 rear bumper so the whole car has a mix of new and old.

The valve cover adaptation is pretty slick. What did that involve to seal it up again cleanly? The lack of the old style valve cover is part of why I don't want to use a 530 head.
[jerk nitpick]Is there some particular reason it lacks the Non-A/C bracket to put the PS where the A/C used to live? I'd imagine finding a non A/C 240 is cake there no? I can't really see the engine bay in its entirety without being there, so I have no idea if you have something in the way there and say the above with that in mind.[/nitpick]

Looks odd with the 850 bumper, but one mod you get used to, prolly better to have the 850 lower half.
But yes to the turbo or higher comp MS and ITB's on a 16V!

if your willing to drop some cash on it
a 2.5L crank, stock 16v pistons and the 16v head
with the available upgraded springs, kennys conversion to solid lifters and a little bit of port work
i would not doubt for a second you could get the car to 200whp using the stock cams

+1 16V w/ carbs would not only put out some decent numbers but I'd imagine it would sound outrageous...do it!
BTW I like the 850 airdam better then the Brickstylz kit.

Why cant you use the distributor?
There are distributor caps available that will fit with the 16v.
I can give you the part number .

okay smartie pants...find another brand new wheel at a reasonable price that'll bolt on and fit correctly without the use of spacers/adapters.....yea, I thought so :)
to the OP, that 850 bumper is not as fugly as I thought it would be...did I read correctly that you are dumping the n/a for a boosted motor?? i'm going to so alone in the n/a club :-(

the current plan is to be using a super short LH2.2 head mounted distro on the back of the 16v head to give cam reference info
while using the block mount lh2.2 distro for tooth count and feeding it all into MS to run sequential spark for more power and better running
