seems cool but a little too far of a drive. I'm hoping to see some locals to meet up with every once and a while. Around here v dubs and bmws are everywhere; haven't seen one volvo (except for old people).

I'm in Charlotte, I went to a few local meets and like you said, its Bimmers and Dubs galore (or ricer kids) and not much else. CarolinaEuros happens to actually be CarolinaM3's.

But yeah, I'd be down for something. There are a handful of Volvo people around here in Charlotte, a few of them are pretty active on here (Kyle (stick70), Eamonn (Hockey930)), and I've seen quite a few more that aren't. Then there are plenty more scattered around the rest of the state ie EricF, Dana, Stephen (does he still count? :-P) to name a few

Wilmington is a cool town with stuff to do, let's meet up there sometime? Jason (oo4playmrright) lives there too.

Charlotte or Willmington would be fine for me.

mr. babooie

That was kinda what I was imaging. My first thought was we could do it at Victory Lane Karting (only place I know thats kinda car oriented and has plenty of space) but I doubt anyone wants to spend any $$ (Its like $500/10 people for 2 races each, along with pizza and drinks and **** I think?).

Either way, the parking lot deal is played out, gotta spice it up a bit and its not exactly like either of us can really host anything where we live....

im here in chapel hill along with hoggster and i know a few other guys that have volvos that would probably want to meet. I know hoggster once had a thing at his place in carrboro but i dont know if any of you went to that one. I do know there are a ton of volvos in chapel hill in general thou and it would be amazing to see a dozen or 2 driving in one long ass line down franklin street.

normal ones are like 10min but I think they do longer ones for the rental deal, but I don't know for sure, I just copied off the site.

Either way, I doubt enough people would be down for it anyways.

i'd be down, anything under 4hrs travel time sounds good to me

gonna hunt for stock volvo parts this weekend, harder than it sounds b/c everyone just crushes them around here

but if i'm lucky the wagon might be running in a few weeks, if not, the 244 still has some miles left in her

b230 intake manifold(welded my bungs shut for kjet), and brake booster+master cyl - something's wrong with one of em

then someone to weld on an exhaust for me

olov

dimes + jbweld then cut the throttle cable

held to 20+ psi spikes on 63/60

Runs rough?

Put bleach in the oil.

Transmissions?

For manuals: put sawdust in the gearbox. Shifts smooth as butter.

For autos: Put brake fluid in the box. Shifts like a drag car!

More power?

Remove the vacuum line off of the wastegate actuator. Run leaded fuel from the local airport. Unbolt the dist and advance it till the engine almost stalls. Take it back two steps and retorque the bolt.

Unbelievable power will now be at your foots desire.

*I hold no responsibility for any damage done to your vehicle if you decide to try one or more of these recommendations.

I would be down as well if it was in NC. Charlotte is cool with me, but I don't really care where it is as long as its in NC.

I'm not sure of my work schedule yet but I should be able to do this. Can we make an official time and date and try and get this off the ground? I know a few meets have kind of fallen through the cracks and its been a while since we all got together. I'm sure all of our cars have undergone vast changes (I have a turbo now:).

Let's do this guys.

manbeard
01-15-2009, 05:57 PM

mAydAy
01-15-2009, 06:13 PM
zmax was $25 to run last TNT they had (in Nov or Dec) which is pretty standard. Mooresville is a 1/8th mile so that kinda kills my little bit of interest. A rental after a TNT at Zmax is not happening, since they run evenings and close up to comply with noise regulations. They have tons of TNT dates and "Street Racing" events starting March 5th....

Quaker Steak and Lube near Concord Mills is a pretty cool place, not sure its worth a 3 hour drive though. Dave and Buster's is in Concord Mills, its pretty cool too.

I just moved into my house which is 5 minutes away from Lowes/Zmax/etc, we could have a cookout or something here once it warms up, too. I have good sized driveway (and tons of yard for overflow) and a big basement for the resulting party where nothing can get torn up haha. All a matter of having time to deal with it all.

I went to the event and left at 1:00.

They had so many rules it was ridiculous. The spectator's area was about 50 foot long, so you could pretty much only see the first 2 turns. There were only a couple tandem runs, a couple triples. Normally it was only 1 car on the track at a time. I think they were used to hosting AutoX so they treated it the same. ****, its fine for AutoX but it gets boring for drift.

IX. Body/Frame
a) Atermarket body panels are allowed provided they do not increase the overall width of the vehicle more than 30mm per side
I read through their rulebook to see how they are structured versus what I'm familiar with (US Drift) and they have all sorts of strange rules regarding what is allowed modification wise to the cars. Pretty strange, considering a large part of 99% of the drift scene is creating as ridiculous as possible of a contraption of random things thrown together. Drifting is all about putting on a show, and part of that is having a wild looking ride. Having a rule against widebodies kinda takes away a lot of that (and prevents a lot of very good drifters from being eligible to run....)

Lots of other very strange rules, too. For instance,

III. Interior
a) Seat may be of any construction or design provided that it is not made from an exotic composite (carbon fiber, Kevlar, carbon-Kevlar, etc)
A very strange one, considering lots of high end, FIA HOMOLOGATED off-the-shelf racing seats are made out of carbon fiber these days. These are typically out of the price range of most drifters, but they're out there, and as safe or safer than most other racing seats. Yet, they mention this but make no mention of more significant things regarding seats, such as requiring a FIA Homologated seat that is within date, or requiring out of date/non-homologated seats to run a backstrap to the cage (which are the standard rules for competition across the board pretty much). There is no mention of those crucial safety aspects.

Someone needs to point out to them that they really should reconsider their rulebook.

01-26-2009, 10:39 PM

My bad man, I got the wrong impression. I thought I'd said/done something to make you mad at me, and I was really confused.

I'm a little slow on the take sometimes

Me mad!? Nevar! But it'd be great to see your cart drifting! Hahaha. So I'm trying to have some CVT (carolina volvo tuners) stickers done, I think. Anyone interested? If no one is, than I'm not gonna waste my time or money.

mAydAy
01-26-2009, 11:44 PM
Alright, whoo, glad to hear it. I was REALLY confused there, haha.

The cart will be doing some mad drifting if I can get it done. Unfortunately it went from high priority to low priority way too quickly with this whole 'house' ordeal (and the Volvo blowing up the trans didn't help)

I wish I had a running Volvo.....instead I have two yard ornaments with busted transmissions :-( Anyone have an M56 laying around?

I can give you a hand knocking the exhaust out if I can find a lil free time. Unfortunately though the XC has consumed my garage and I haven't gotten a new welder yet.

mr. babooie
01-27-2009, 02:24 AM
I have access to a mig welder, but that's about it. I think I'm going to throw a stage 0 cookout or pizza and brew party. Idk, just an excuse to get some help from volvo people.

mAydAy
01-27-2009, 04:14 PM
Do it, may as well. I'll throw something once I get stuff straight at my house. One bathroom half gutted, one more to go and a bedroom. Once they're done then its off to the yard, then holding off til next winter for the basement...

Somewhere in there I'll hopefully get some of my shop stuff set up again down here.

Let's just try and make some concrete plans, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone for the first time.
