This is the update thread for version 3.5
We'll be listing all the changes made to both the site and the board in here so you can keep up to date with whats going on, check out new features, and let us know if there are any repercussions from the changes.

boostdemon

changed the coppa user field in the database to clean up all users. shouldnt have any problems with this now.

changed outter border width to be 80% rather then a fixed pixel size.

boostdemon
04-01-2004, 10:27 AM
Added the new "Turbo Style" which is an option at the bottom of the board. This is the style/theme that i will be modifying. You may use it, but it could at any time durring the process be "screwed up" until everything is finished. Meanwhile you should still be able to use the "Default Style" and things shouldnt change.

boostdemon
04-06-2004, 03:22 PM
-added the 300+ club back in, still dont know where to go to "join" yet though :???:
-Added the seller/buyer comments forum in the for sale section.
-changed the logo on the "default" theme to turbobricks, (also made it 1/3 the size).
-Enabled HTML (i think) on the forums

boostdemon
04-07-2004, 11:57 PM
change the board so it only shows 1 signature per user per page. This should cut down on the physical length of threads but still allow people to see everyones sigs

boostdemon
04-13-2004, 06:28 PM
updated all users to accept private messages and display a pop-up when a message is received.
You can go back and change this setting if you wish in your "User CP" options screen

boostdemon
04-21-2004, 02:56 PM
updated the board code to 3.0.1
Click here to read about what was changed: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=101628

boostdemon
06-27-2004, 11:34 PM
got teh menu done for the turbo style. Also added the mousepad to the store from cafepress (still need to change the storefront though)

boostdemon
07-12-2004, 04:22 PM
upgrade board code to 3.0.2 and then 3.0.3 (god i love this board). Set TurboStyle as the default style. You can change back to the other one if you'd like. The link is at the bottom left of the page in the dropdown menu.
As requested, a 56k style is soon to come.

760T man
07-15-2004, 11:41 PM
...and the 1 sig per user per page thing is only going to be in the 56K version...RIGHT??? :-D

boostdemon
07-16-2004, 12:37 AM
nope, thats actually a small change in the board code itself. The 56k theme will hopefully change all images in threads to links, no smilies, and will have very few small (in size) images... im still debating on avatars being shown.

boostdemon
08-23-2004, 10:37 AM
removed post counts in the thread view, also changed usertitles to either be:
posts/title
0/lurker
1/newbie
20+/Board Member

If you would like a custom title, make a donation (or you have made a donation since 11/02) and Send me a PM and i'll be glad to change it for you.

760T man
08-23-2004, 11:14 AM
Dana, is it possible to make the post count thing an option? I'd rather see them all....

boostdemon
08-23-2004, 11:20 AM
nope, but you can go into the public profile... and maybe in the memberlist, i havent tried

760T man
08-23-2004, 11:26 AM
yeah, that's how it always was...alright well that's cool then. i'm weird anyway...(ie i want to see the sigs over and over again like it always used to be, etc :-P)

hey while we're at it, could you add this as an emoticon: http://www.pbase.com/image/32922745.jpg

boostdemon
08-30-2004, 09:59 PM
Added Daves overdue feature article, he takes all the credit for it since he left very little for me to do to get it up there

boostdemon
09-01-2004, 03:08 PM
since this new board has been using MUCH less bandwidth then the last one, I changed the avatar size to 100x100 and the profile picture size to 640x480

1stRaven
09-02-2004, 07:17 AM
Has the file size of the avatar been changed?

boostdemon
09-02-2004, 08:18 AM
nope... its still under 7KB which shouldnt be a problem... mine is less then 3KB and its animated

boostdemon
10-29-2004, 10:05 AM
Changed the page contact section to use the board contact us feature instead (hopes of reducing spam and site spiders).

Completely renovated the cafepress store options, added new items and replaced the "turbobricks.com" logo on all items.

boostdemon
11-22-2004, 11:38 AM
with the new host we got lots more space/bandwidth - so i enabled the attachment feature. Contributors and upload attachments to a thread, gif jpeg jpg jpe png zip doc and pdf. Registered users can download/view them.
This is enabled in all forums except offtopic and the classifieds section.
Just another bonus to donating.

02-11-2005, 04:27 AM
on the memberlist, the "last visit date" heading is messed up, not sure why, but for instance Chigga's said 11-18-2002, towery's says 9-18-2002, Boxdriver2's 11-12-2002, etc

maybe a small glitch

boostdemon
02-13-2005, 11:02 PM
you sure thats not "join date" cause thats how mine fills out

stylngle2003
02-14-2005, 06:23 PM
heres what i see, doesnt matter too much in terms of board operation:

boostdemon
02-15-2005, 09:46 AM
this is what i see with opera7. I say log out of the board, clear your cache, close firefox, open it back up and log back in. See if that fixes it. If not try IE6 and see if its the same.

stylngle2003
02-15-2005, 12:58 PM
i'll try that, thanks dana

Upgrade to version 3.0.7

a security fix, and some bug fixes. Let me know if you see any problems.

boostdemon
04-12-2005, 11:00 AM
Our host figured out the problem with 403 forbidden errors... that should be all set now

Updated the front page of the site so that your avatar shows up on the front page and a button link back to the forum on other pages.

let me know if anyone is having problems with either of these changes.

boostdemon

loaded clubvolvo.com's backup from just before they were shut down and upgrade it, cleaned it up, and imported all the users/threads/posts/PM's/forums into turbobricks. They will be re-sorted out into the correct tbricks forums and members will need to search the memberlist for their old username on cv to be merged into their tbricks name.

thank Doug for saving all the data and for making sure the volvo tuner community doesnt lose any great threads!

Donny

Just a suggestion... It would be nice to be notified of any new post on a thread that you have either contributed to or have on a watch list. Is there such a feature on vB?

yes, "subscriptions". You can subscribe to any thread manually through the thread tools menu, or you can set it in your user cp to automatically subscribe to all threads you start.

I assume one of these 'bugs' still present from the update are the avatars that don't show on the forum, but do show up in my profile?

boostdemon

yes, there are a lot of changes through out the templates that were updated... I have not updated the templates i customized for this theme yet because i will have to revert them back to original, then make the changes again.

cliff notes: things are going to be funky until im done editing it. Hopefully it will be done by tonight.

I'm seeing people's sigs in every post, not just once per page anymore.

not that there's anything wrong with that. I miss it personally, sigs are how I identify posters in a long thread. makes it easier for me to find a specific post by a specific person, the 1 sig per person per page thing has driven me nuts since it started

When I have added my skype name, the skype icon that should be next to the MSN icon is not showing. Itīs only a placeholder with an "unavailable pic"-symbol.
Been like that for a few weeks now. Is the icon missing in the system?

Thanx for an otherwise very good software!

latest and greatest... plus added a new "tbricks-lite" style down there... dont click it yet or you'll get stuck with it (ok if you're looking you can click this and change it back: http://forums.turbobricks.com/?styleid=1 )

anyways, the new style is designed for WAP which is what cell phones, PDA's, and other random high tech gadgets use to parse websites. However, since its so trim and tiny... once i get a few links in it (for your pm's, search, and to change styles) it could work really well for those of you with archaic internet connections... or just have a minimalistic view of content layout and design :grrr:

so... uh... carry on

sorry, delayed post from maintenance on early saturday morning...

the forums have finally gotten rebuilt to include all the previous threads in the search engine. This includes all the CV stuff, as well as rebuilding everything else from over the years.
Normal performance maintenance was also done on the database as well as rebuilding some of the user data that had been screwed up over time.

boostdemon

psssh periods are for girls... and people dat cant read to good

i went back and updated all forum descriptions to be in proper english with the correct punctuation.

while i was at it, i updated the WAP/Tbricks-lite style to have a link to privatemessages for those that needed info while away from the computer, and also added a link back to the default turbo style so those of you who got stuck could switch back ;-)

boostdemon

lots of new stuff, lots of updating, still more tweaking to do.

p.s. No, the header areas will go back to the way they looked before. thats just the default

boostdemon
08-11-2006, 10:14 AM
Ok, as far as i can tell, everything should be just like it was. If i missed something or forgot something let me know.

/edit - and also, im not going to modify the "default" style anymore except for the logo it will continue to be all 'stock' settings and code. So if you're someone who really wanted to see post counts, signatures on each reply, etc... default is for you :)

posts do have an extra few pixels between them... not sure if thats new.

i dont see any change in color of the backgrounds however, looks exactly the same (and cant see why/how it would have changed since its a style option), however i'll double check it.

the border around everything is throwing me off a little but otherwise things seem normal.

What border? maybe something updated in the CSS? i'll clear my cache and refresh... what browser you using? can you take a screenshot or describe what you're seeing?

I like the additional mod options.

Yeah, the new mod options are interesting... gonna be kinda fun throwing soccer foul cards at people :)

boostdemon

you talking about the blue border around the form boxes in the "reply"? cause that I dont remember... also seems to be an awful lot of space between the box and the smilies when you "go advanced".

all things are possibilties that i might have changed in the style templates - all of which i reverted to the latest version instead of going through and updating all the new code (there was a lot this time).

thats how its always looked for me, both in IE and Opera, but maybe its more noticable if in face adrian was right about hte posts having more space between them.

could be that it cahces the CSS file and when you got home it grabed the updated one.

The search is button is an error message machine. NO other forum I frequent has this level of frustration. There is a wealth of information on here. PLEASE, make it easier to find.

stock and exhaust and 740 and turbo-error
change timing belt- error, but using changing worked
check valve-error
broken exhaust manifold stud-error

I'll second that. I understand that a lot of work goes into the forums and it is appreciated, but the search errors have been a problem for a long time. And it sure doesn't stop the repost nazis from calling it out or the people who say "SEARCH FIRST!". Its kinda hard when we can't.

converted the search database to use mysql's 'fulltext' search functions. This is to reduce the load on the server and hopfully get rid of that pesky memory error we've been haunted with for the last 6 months.

When using boolean fulltext search, you can use the same operators that the normal vBulletin search supports, .e.g. OR AND NOT. You can also use quotes to surround phrases.

k, minor annoyance that went askew sometime in the last year or so and never got fixed I guess...

when hitting the insert image button on the advanced editor, use to be if you highlighted the image URL then hit the button, it'd automatically add the tags to the highlighted URL. Now, no matter what, it requires you to put the URL into the box that pops up. I've been waiting patiently to see if this was ever going to be fixed, but it doesn't appear that anyone's noticed or gotten around to it.

i dont think thats something thats broken, thats how it is? is it the same in all 3 editor modes?

Seems to be.

I know we used to have it set so it'd automatically wrap the tags around highlighted text, and I've been on other VB3/3.5 forums where it was set that way as well.

I mean if its gonna be too much to set, then just don't worry, it's not that big of a deal, I was just hoping it'd be some easy little tweak on your side.

Oh, and sweet deal on the attachments/albums :-D

boostdemon
05-13-2008, 10:56 PM
nah, its not a setting anywhere... it would require modifying the way the editor system works, which isnt worth anything to me. Now if it was a plugin/product i can load and give folks the option of pop-up or highlight encapsulation, thats not a big deal.

Is there anyway we can get buyer/seller feedback threads linked to people's profiles or something? I know people will say "just search!", but people change names and the threads don't always get updated with the new username. The feedback threads carry a lot of weight with me, so any way to find more about a person's reputation is A-ok with me. Just an idea.

I used to be able to go back much further,
I think all the way to the find Members first posts.
It is hard to find info that you can't remember the thread,
but you know who posted it.
Dead threads nonwithstanding, there is alot of info buried in the forum,

Ian, that happens to me too, just after you make a quick reply you can see your sig no matter how many posts you've made in the thread, but once you refresh it goes back to 1 per page. I guess it's a weird bug but it's not really a problem at all, just a bit trippy.

An issue has been discovered by many VMware customers and partners with ESX/ESXi 3.5 Update 2 where Virtual Machines fail to power on or VMotion successfully. This problem began to occur on August 12, 2008 for customers that had upgraded to ESX 3.5 Update 2. The problem is caused by a build timeout that was mistakenly left enabled for the release build.

I'm quoting this post because it seems to be a websearch spambot. I did a search and found that first sentence all over the web.

Is this worth discussing? The reason I ask is this one was not banned yet, and the 2 posts it had made actually pertained in some fashion to the threads.

I think there's other things being added to help the speed, which seems to be coming back.

I really would like the new posts search back, but all the 'I can't search for how to search since the search feature is missing and I didn't read any of the other I can't search threads' are getting amusing.

Okay, I'm stupid. How does one use Google to search within the site?

So Google won't work on the private forums. While the search is great for finding tech data and such, regulars need it to find sale posts! If the search is not viable, isn't there some way to restore access to our own posts from our profiles other than the public search? That is, the "all posts" and "all threads" links in profiles?

Just a thought. That would certainly drop the search traffic considerably.

Upgraded to patch L3. Added a 15 second timer to the registration process to help prevent bots from registering (hopefully). Added a function to remove the "report post" icon once a post has already been reported.

Let me know if you see any new problems. Thanks!

Go to google, and type in "whatever question you have" and add "on turbobricks.com" to the question.

Actaully works better than the TB search
