After nearly 5 months of searching, it's found. A (basically) rust free pre 86 245.

It's a '79 245DL B21+M46 230K, and it's in great shape. Well the body anyway, the engine has some sort of fuel injection problem. No matter, because it's being swapped out for my D24T+ic. It will also be getting most all my suspension goodies.

Welp, here she is boys, the new base for my project:

It's perfect. I love it.

For those of you that don't know why I was looking for a wagon in the first place: The Story (http://www.turbobricks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145560)

Progress will be slow at first, I've got some other automotive stuff to take care of before I rip into this transplant. But you will all be kept up to date, so stay tuned.

isn't it awesome?
it's so awesome and brown. And the driver's side door handle is covered in rhino lining or something.

I hope you enjoy it. I was really impressed by the mechanical condition of the car. Especially the brakes. When I tried to slow down to go back into his development, holy hell did it stop

Excited to see the progress anyway.

Beautiful.

Would that grille fit on a '85 245DL? if so, I'll give ya $20 for it.

Nice find regardless. Lovin' the rounds on the wagon. Rust free is a huge plus, too.

im expecting to see some pegs on that soon!!!:oogle:

Thanks everybody, I love the brown too :-D

Norcal505 brings up a good point though, I really like the classic stock look of this car. So I am really torn whether to put on my flathood+singlerounds+18"pegs... We'll see what happens. It's definitely getting the diesel powerplant and the full IPD suspension though.

Thanks again guys.

the pegs are a must!!! single rounds would be hot sex and a flathood would be great!!!

You will do good to this car... that car is lucky to have you!

I vote YEAH for the flathood+single rounds+pegs. And e-code turns and if you're so inclined.

The only time I actually like the ugly nose front end is with dual rounds...you should leave it stock I think...it looks good

MrBill

yes it needs to stay looking like that.

I also think you should go with flathood, single rounds and pegs. If you change your mind you can turn it back to stock any time you want. :)

So I've been thinking about my build and what I really want out of it, and I believe I've come to some conclusions.

I've realized that I was trying to make a Turbo-Diesel-Veggie-Oil-Burning-Economy-DD and a Mostly-Street-(but maybe sometimes track)-Stripped-Out-Rock-Hard-Racer. These are really two separate builds that when in one car really work against each other in a lot of ways. What I have come to is that I can take each build further if I actually build two cars.

1)I can take the 79 245DL I just bought, drop my D24T+ic in it, get it running on grease and basically keep it stock after that. Maybe a little suspension work and light tuning. But Basically Stock :-P

2)Then take all my fancy performance parts I have stocked up over the years and drop them in some 240. Probably go crazier with the suspension because it wont really be much of road car anymore. For building a car such as this my dollar per HP will probably go further with a gas engine opposed to diesel. :-( I know I've always been touting diesel performance... But I've also been watching all of these awesome red block builds. So if I go through with this plan I will most likely be dropping in a B21FT or something like that.

There is an ITB 242 Race Car Shell for sale near my house. Which I am now very interested in, I think it would be perfect for this project. So I'll be checking that out.

So what do you guys think? I assume this line of thought or something like it has happened to quite a few of you guys on here, when you realize you want to take your "fast car" a little further then your willing to put up with with a DD...

MrBill

personally I think it would be AWESOME to see a diesel BRWNPWR

And Todd's 242ITB shell looks awesome.

But just think... BRWNPWR

I went flat hood + single rounds with my 245. I think this wagon of your's pulls off quad rounds quite well. With the D24tic transplant hopefully you'll get better mpgs than mine. 15mpg is kinda getting old:roll:

I recently came to this conclusion as well. The Purple gets "sweet DD status" and the black parts car gets gutted and made into an awesome track car.

I'd say go for it! And I can't wait to see the finished products!
